DISNEY/PIXAR'S THE INCREDIBLES #1

Written by Mark Waid, art by Marcio Takara, covers by Michael Avon Oeming.

America's favorite family of superheroes finally returns! The Incredibles face terrifying new villains and friendly new neighbors, all while Mr. Incredible hides a troubling secret from his costumed clan.

24 pages, $2.99.

I'm quite pumped for this (since Disney's dumb asses cant figure out that The Incredibles 2 would be HUGE!). I thought Darwyn Cooke was supposed to be doing the art, but I can deal with this. Plus, Mark Waid is writing? Come on! It's gonna be great.

Twas a joke. Hence the laughing man at the bottom.

But seriously, dont come in here and s*** all over The Incredibles. :cmad:

Every FF thread is a **** fest. Why can't I come in here and give my reasons for thinking the Incredibles are one big ripoff? I'll give you some examples so that you know and the mods know that I'm not trolling. I'm presenting a valid argument.

They hired one of the most successful FF writers in Mark Waid. They ripped off the powersets and just switched them around. Added a new one and transfered temperature control to their best friend. They even have a child who could be the most powerful of them all. The name of the Dad is Mr. Incredible. A ripoff of Mr. Fantastic.

It's just one big ripoff.

Meh. The Incredibles was better than both F4 movies combined.

It is. Doesnt mean I cant bring up the movie the comic is based on...

The Incredibles is entering a medium that the FF trailblazed. The comparisons are going to be inevitable. What can the Incredibles add that the FF hasn't done somewhere in their 50 year history?

Well, someone's certainly bitter.

produce a credible superhero film

Key phrase: Should have been.

Other key phrase: borrowing

Like it or not, and better or not, the Incredibles owes it's existence to the Fantastic Four. Although, they're likely more known and liked by the mainstream (i.e. "America's Favorite") than the FF, due to more exposure and the manner of that exposure.

I've always taken the Incredibles (and most other non-comic superhero fare) to be homages to the Marvel and DC stuff that created the archetypes that are usually used in superhero fiction. The Incredibles take a lot of elements from the FF, as well as aspects from Batman (the Incredibile), the X-Men (Frozone's Ice Slides, Gazerbeam's design), and even James Bond/spy movies (villain's high-tech island hideaway filled with faceless goons), and combines them in a way to make it both unique and a nod to what's been done in the past.

I think the true key word here is HOMAGES
there is also some Moore refrences in there too (the super-killer is like the mask-killer, I seem to remember someone getting killed by their cape too) I remember loving this movie, noticing the comic references and loving them.

But I have to say: after those FF movies, he has the right to be bitter (hell after the majority of FF comics he has the right to be bitter)

The Incredibles took existing elements of previous characters/concepts and used them to produce a new story with a humorous interpretation.

It's just how parody works.

No, no. It's true. No one gives a **** about F4 anymore.:dry:

:lmao:

I never gave a hoot about the F4 to begin with...I don't care if it came first... I still LOVE the Incredibles regardless that it's a homage to other superhero comics (not just FF).

Anyway, I'm thrilled about this comic (I've heard that the director doesn't want to do a sequel until he can come up with a good story for it...) and can't wait for it to hit the market!

I do like THE INCREDIBLES, even if it is annoying that the Fantastic Four have proven to be very hard to translate into film and TV shows. Maybe Marvel should have tried CGI animation for a feature film? After all, certain things that come off as corny in live action work better in animation, as THE INCREDIBLES proved.

Anyway, I may give the comic a try, although I would rather wait until Brad Bird can cobble together a sequel. He's said in the past he doesn't want to "just do a sequel", but to do an entire movie that offers something new WHILE being a sequel. After all, he'd been developing the original INCREDIBLES for the big screen since 1999-2000 (after THE IRON GIANT basically). It took about 3-4 years to animate. So, it may be an equally long time for a sequel even if it is half assed.

I love how everyone brings up the 8% of the movie that is an homage to other superheroes. The lion's share is a ripoff of the FF.

I can't wait for this mag to tank. And the FF will keep right on chuggin'.

Oh, well, the comic book market is very different. THE INCREDIBLES comic is from a "third party" studio while FANTASTIC FOUR has been a Marvel staple for over 45 years. Of course FF will outsell it and outlast it by a large margin.

The biggest problem for the FF franchise is figuring a way to improve their image with alternate media adaptions, and getting a TV series or movie done right.

Brad Byrd made The Incredibles what it was. On the DVD commentary he said he won't make a sequel unless he has an interesting story to tell.

As for this comic book, we'll see...
