I never really enjoyed this movie much as a kid but the concept is something that has always got me thinking.

"A little boy puts a toy Indian in the cupboard and it comes to life. They gradually become good friends throughout the film and the young boy also puts some of his other toys into the cupboard as well. "

What I want to know is what would happen if you put for in the cupboard for example a Superman figurine, would he come out with his superpowers?

And the big question, what if you put a world globe in there?:wow:

I've liked the film, and it got me interested into the book series (there were four novels). In the third book, there's an interesting and tragic backstory to the key's magic and why it works only on 3 inch plastic figures. (That scene where Omri puts his toys in the cupboard and brings them to life for a split second was created for the movie, not one in the book. Shame it didn't explore that ability further.)

And furthermore, the books take place entirely in the UK. There was a lot of terminology that flew over my head when I was first reading. And when I read the second book, I was like "Who on earth would name their daughter Tamsin?"

I remember that movie. I feel like it's one of the more underrated movie of the 90s. Really liked it as kid.

Well the film shows Darth vader fighting a T rex with a working light saber for a moment, so I think it would make sense for superman to have his (to scale) powers.

btw, the compositing of the little man with kid, blew my young mind special effects wise as a small child.

I imagine the globe would become a large rock surrounded by a puddle of water.
Everything would just fall off of it.

Hey man you ever watched "Indian in the cupboard"..on weed?

I loved these books. I still call soda "fire water".

Do NOT go to the IMDB forum to discuss this. That thread for this conversation brings up Barbie dolls, and it kind of goes to hell from there.

I would put in an Albert Einstein action figure (from American Science), a Stephen Hawking (from the Simpsons' Playmates line), a Reed Richards, a Doctor and an Autobot Perceptor and have them invent stuff for me, like a time machine, and make me a trillionaire. :awesome:

You forgot about a genius in his own right. Lt. Commander Data. :cwink:

I remember the VHS box was golden and came with a key that opened it.

I still have it. I remember getting the movie (it was ordered through Avon, so it didn't have that clamshell packaging with the key and Indian), and then I saw the regular store VHS. I actually bought a second copy of the VHS, just to get that.

Who could forget robocop in the cupboard too?

Too much drama with him: Prime Directive + Ethical Subroutines = Forever to Get Projects Done.

I recall when I first saw this years ago as a teenager & just would imagine all the endless possibilities with all the action figures I had/have. I would've probably popped in some of my SuperPowers figures or G.I.Joes, just for the heck of it.

Re-watching this again as an adult has made me realize one thing....... the main kid is ****ing annoying. :o

I think being annoying was one of the qualifications for being a kid in a 90s movie.

How dare you, Macaulay Culkin was always a perfect gentleman. :cmad:

Hey folks!
This Old thread i made a long time ago has managed to come full circle in my life as i am attempting to write a fan fiction film based on the concept of the cupboard.

What i want to know from you lot is what would you put in the cupboard. I have already got a light saber and spider-man web shooters and a batman costume.
I am mostly after weapons other defensive tools

Iron Man costume. Hulk Hands. Replica Green Lantern ring. A sonic screwdriver. A replica One Ring, Sting, Frodo's elven cloak, replica Sting. Replica Infinity Gauntlet! :wow:

On the "it all goes wrong side," a plush facehugger from Alien. A zombie from walking dead (bites someone on the ankle, and then it begins ...).

^ What the hell would you do with Hulk's dismembered hands?! :o

A laser gun of any type. And those models they have of the Millennium Falcon/Death Star and Enterprise etc. They're my air support.

no guns because dude..we have a light saber and guns are too dangerous ;)
Oh and yeh what could you do with hulk hands. think more practicle .

Also if you put any vehicles in you are going to need pilots.

Lol, I naively figured you could wear them as gloves and gain Hulk's strength, but that's conceptually impossible.

You could put an X-wing fighter and a Wedge Antilles action figure in the cupboard. Rinse and repeat. That's a drone squadron to rival any on Earth.

The Enterprise has autopilot, damn it! :argh:

you would still need to somehow access the controls in some way. Remember the cupboard isnt very big.

things like the green lantern ring are cool but its a bit too powerful and kinda limitless within the context of my story.

I like the iron man idea. I had the idea for just a replica iron man glove so the character didnt have full access to the suit. I feel its a bit too powerful.

thanks foe the input

The big question i pose is..what happens if you put a small model of the sun in there? Does anybody know the science behind what would happen?
