More like very. Obviously they may not do what we as fans want them to do, they're going to do what they want to do.

yeah, which is ; making more money off of us via an unnecessary sequel, selling out after big claims of "yeah no sequel, this is a standalone, standalone, it's a standalone, integrity? What? Yeah I have that lololol ", and, again, tainting that nature of the first film.

I'm simply saying I don't see it working UNLESS they were to take that angle. It doesn't have to be a full adaptation but the basic gist of it here and there could've worked. Now, idk how they'll do it . Some things that were left up to interpretation in the first movie would HAVE to be answered, once again ruining that aspect. But maybe not ... After all, Blade Runner 2049 never really did answer that whole "Deckard is a replicant" thing .

I just ... It really depends on what they do. But either way, it's a sell-out. And yes, I know he went through a lot to get this made, but his supposed "vision" from the very beginning was, again, for this to be a one-off.

Dude gave us one of the best comic book films ever. You guys should have some trust. Or in Joaquin. You guys realize Joaquin would NEVER agree with a sequel if he didn't think the story is good?

I was against a sequel but now I am just hoping they keep the standalone feeling of the first one and do something special.

It's not like he didn't hit a home run with "Joker." Let's have a little faith. Let's wait for the sequel to actually suck before writing off people.
Who knows, Phillips and Silver may have cooked up an idea which is just as unique as the one for this movie.

If they really have to make sequels to this. They should turn this into an anthology series. Kind of paying homage to the killing jokes "if I'm going to have a past I prefer it be multiple choice" idea. And I dont need this version of joker in Reeves batman.

Are they really thinking it makes sense to apply the same grim dark origin for Joker to other villains? Isn’t that like applying the Batman approach to Superman?

I think Joker is probably one of the top 3 known villains next to Darth Vader and Lex Luthor. Not saying they can’t have successful movies with other villains but it’s foolish to think they will attract the same interest.

Why does everthing need to be labeled? Especially from comic book fans I'd expect a bit more flexibility when it comes to storytelling.
"The Killing Joke," "Year One," "The Dark Knight Returns" and "Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth" are NOTHING alike. Yet that didn't stop any readers from enjoying them, did it?
People are WAAAAAAAAY to obsessed with "cinematic universes" and cohesiveness nowadays. Warner Bros. has already mentioned numerous times that they're moving away from a "shared, extended, cinematic universe", and instead want to create a platform for filmmakers to tell their DC stories.

Not once is the (dumb) term "grimdark" mentioned in the article, or in any statements by Todd Phillps. The point was never to make a dark movie. But the Joker is a dark character. I'm pretty sure Phillip's IQ is at least as high as anyone's on these forums. He'll figure the right tone out for whatever character he wants to approach.

I would also like to remember people that, having also directed "Road Trip," "Old School," "Starsky & Hutch" and "The Hangover," he is perfectly capable of making lighter movies, as well.

If you actually read the article you would know that he managed to get access to one or two other DC characters for which he is planning to develop movies.

I never wanted a sequel to Joker as I always wanted it to be a one-off film where it leaves the continuation of the story up to the imagination of the viewer but the over-performance of the movie pretty much guaranteed it was inevitably going to happen. I think DC is pushing their luck doing a sequel to this movie. Joker performed the way it did because it looked like it was doing something that had never been seen in the genre before with a really iconic & popular villain.

Doing a sequel presents the question on how to make another movie as fresh and unique as the first film. Can they capture lightening in the bottle twice? The novelty factor of doing a dark gritty Joker villain flick has worn off now that it’s already happened, so you gotta bring something new. Kind of disappointed there this doing this, even though I know I shouldn’t be surprised.

It’s definitely going to be Luthor. He’s the only other A-list villain that could garner a similar amount of attention from general audiences.

It would also play into the 99% v 1% dichotomy Joker set up, where Luthor could show the other perspective in the 1%.

I don't mind a sequel. Sequels never diminish the originals, no matter how bad they might be or how much fans of the original scream and ***** and moan. It's the thought of more DC origin movies along the same vein that bothers me. I'd like to see Joker occupy its own unique space that isn't encroached upon by other pretenders.

I think calling it clickbait is a little harsh. THR is a respected outlet. It's a real possibility that their sources are wrong, but that doesn't mean they intentionally misled us.

Deadline might be facing some egg on their faces, or come out triumphant from this trio. I can't think of the last time trades openly dismissed each other's scoops.
