The Joker Thread - Part 1

George MacKay would work but then again he is too much of an unknown at this point. I doubt DCEU wants to go for a lesser known actor in the role even though personally I wouldn't really mind it but then again Warner Brothers as a studio I am sure they probably want a bigger name that's all I am really saying. I mean I can see Reeves and DC also wanting to go with a bigger name actor in the role of The Joker especially if they want to not only draw in a much bigger audience but can MacKay pull off Joker? That is also the million dollar question now isn't it?

Good lord, this “he’s not big enough of a star!” is beginning to annoy me.

But it is true nonetheless Marvel they tend to go for lesser name actors whereas DC doesn't
Still doesn't make it a rule.

If Reeves wanted someone like MacKay, we really think WB is going to tell him no? Because the guy doesn't have an Oscar on his mantle, or because he's not a household name? I genuinely don't buy that for a second. Especially for a character where previous actors have thrived by disappearing into the role and stripping away the vanity. The character is the draw here.

This back-and-forth of "He's not famous enough!" and "He's too famous!" is becoming quite tedious, and it's not conducive to a genuine dialogue. Perhaps we could discuss these actors in terms of talent and overall capability? Check the "star power" thing at the door. For my part, I literally cannot have a conversation about this subject if we're just going to shut down every suggestion because the guy isn't an Oscar winner and apparently WB has a strict "no exceptions" policy on the matter. It's certainly news to me.

We're fans spitballing ideas. That's all this thread is. The Joker's not been cast, he likely won't be cast for several more years (assuming Reeves even uses him), and we have no idea what industry standing these "no name" actors will have in four years' time. MacKay could be an Oscar nominee in two years for all we know. But we don't. Might as well have fun with the speculation piece of this.

I don’t think it matters. I think talent will matter in the end, not superstardom and who can get asses in seats. Look at Reeves’ cast so far. It’s about the talent.

The criteria for some of you guys seems to be "Hey, he's skinny and weird looking, he should be the Joker!".

And that's kind of ironic when you consider that Joaquin, Heath, Jared, Jack and Cesar (at least when they were younger, in the last two cases), have all been considered among the most handsome actors of their respective generations. Hell, even Mark Hamill, too, if you're counting animation.

He might be too old to pair with Pattinson, but I think Ben Mendelson would be a great Joker.

I'm kind of over Ben Mendelsohn being the bad guy in every movie, especially when he plays them all like the exact same character.

He's been playing the same stuffed shirt, slick businessmen type. Joker would be back to the good Mendelsohn.

What's the Australian version of a hick?

But he wasn't a hick in Animal Kingdom!

Bloodline , Place Beyond The Pines yeah I guess you can call him a hick in those. I’d rather have seen Mendelsohn play Pennywise instead of the Joker.

God they really did just keep downgrading in the casting of Pennywise 'til they wound up with... whatever it was Skarsgard was trying.

Mendelhson would've made a phenomenal Joker in the Dark Knight Returns mold paired with an older Batman, but I'd prefer an actor closer in age to Pattinson. His hilarious sleazeball performance in Rises is also real underrated.

He even looks like an evil version of Pattinson lol.

He reminds me of Matthew Mcconaughey in True Detective.
