The Joker Thread - Part 1

Riddler is who I want to see. I read someone's idea for it that I thought was pretty good where he's a new detective/cop in Gotham who becomes obsessed with finding out who Batman is and creates a persona to draw him out/gather information and the further down the rabbit hole he falls he eventually becomes the villain. Something like that would be perfect for Jake Gyllenhaal and combine his work in Nightcrawler with Zodiac and there's the character.

We had Riddler working for the GCPD in two other adaptations. But my fancast for the DCEU Riddler is Eddie Izzard.

Joker given the events of Suicide Squad it only makes sense for us to see Joker again given that he broke Harley Quinn out of prison and her & he on the run together on the loose it makes sense that the 2 of them would be in Batman's solo given the chase scene in the Suicide Squad film as well and Joker leaving Harley for dead with Batman while he escaped I mean it makes sense that Joker is in "The Batman"

That sounds more like a reason for why Joker would be in Gotham City Sirens. It is the Harley movie and it will probably take place after Suicide Squad.

If anyone can save Leto's Joker, it's Matt Reeves. Heck, even Snyder would have done a much better job than Ayer.

That is my take too. That the next time we see Joker, it will be in Gotham City Sirens. I contend you can't really do a Gotham City Sirens without Joker being somehow involved.

1. There needs to be a follow-up of what happened after Joker broke Harley out of jail in Suicide Squad, why they broke up.
2. Scenes were cut from Suicide Squad that deeper explored Joker's relationship with Harley, so a GCS movie would give that missing background.
Heck, if they wanted to save money they could just put the cut SS scenes into GCS.
3. David Ayer created this version of Joker.
4. David Ayer is directing Gotham City Sirens.
5. Joker played an important role in the Gotham City Sirens comic books.

While you can do a The Batman movie that completely ignores the events in Suicide Squad.

Maybe David Ayer finds whatever mojo he had in writing the Alonzo character for Training Day and will do that for Joker in GCS.

Maybe WB and Ayer wants to fix Joker first and then ease him back out to the Batman universe.

Trying to be optimistic.

I think Joker should take a break for a while. Better to use this new line of films to explore other, lesser known characters. He's been frankly overused across all mediums.

Joker and Catwoman are sort of the Lex Luthor and Zod of the bat-verse.

Has Superman ever had sexual relations with Zod?:o

He doesn't misunderstand what you think the character should be. He was given a different task, which apparently was to do something completely different than what we're used to in the most popular Luthor versions.

His character is goofy and awkward, which isn't necessarily wrong given that's exactly how many of these super smart people are. He is also conflicted and tormented by his inner demons and that can easily be seen in the weird way he articulates himself. You can feel his lunacy in his voice and mannerisms. He is a young genius that's completely insane and emotionally scarred, and that actually justifies his actions in the movie. He's not a stable person and that's why he gets screwed by his own genius intellect.

The way the character was portrayed is nothing more than a creative choice. He certainly doesn't have that typical powerful bad guy look that is so popular and so cliche, since Luthor doesn't really look/sound/acts that much different than many other bad guys. But at the end of the day, he still hates superman, he still comes up with crazy plans to beat him, he's still a genius and to me that´s Lex Luthor.

Go read Superman comics and you will find several Luthor versions through out the history. Some of them not that far from what we saw in the movie.

Well said man. I'm not that big on Eisenberg's Lex, but I do appreciate what they were trying to do. The whole thing is kind of a retelling of the Superman/Batman mythos through the lens of our modern world, asking the question do these characters fit into the world we live in today.

Typical Lex is a pretty cliche villain, the powerful, ruthless businessman. So they updated the character to reflect our modern day changing of the guard, with these young tech billionaires who come to work in jeans and a tee shirt. And he portrays the young, quirky, nerdy, anxious millennial, but just beneath the surface lies a ruthless, evil psychopath

I do respect and appreciate the concept, Eisenberg didn't quite hit the mark for me, but I'm definitely willing to give the incarnation another chance in the next film.

Same with Leto. I think the concept and idea has potential, and that Leto can probably pull off a great Joker, the script and direction just didn't allow for it. So I'd like to see what a different writer/director could do with the character.

I'm not the biggest Quentin Tarantino fan, but I kinda wish he had been hired to write and direct an R rated Suicide Squad. I feel like the subject matter would suit his strengths, with the multiple characters and mix of dark humor and violence in stuff like Kill Bill and Reservoir Dogs, and he's good at writing these compelling villainous characters like DiCaprio in Django or Waltz in Inglorious Bastards, so he might could've gotten really creative with a character like Joker or Harley

These are a perfect example of the potential Leto has to be a great Joker. When I first saw that quick clip "Really really bad" at the end of the first SS teaser trailer, I thought he was gonna be awesome
I'm still mad that Ayer picked a different take of that line over what was in that first teaser.
Lame.

I hope in the next outing Leto's demeanor is more like the one he showed in the Blade runner trailer than SS's horny doped version.

His performance in Blade Runner is more in line with what I'd expect a TDKR Joker to be.

Joker in DKR is about as serious as he's ever been, which made sense for that story because he was coming out of a ten-year catatonia. I dug it because it gave the instances when he did laugh or smile more weight.

It's a shame too because Leto would've fit the DKR Joker like a glove.

Its why I think the studio/Ayer/editors had no clue on how to use this Joker. How did they scrap the teaser trailer clip and use the over the top version of that scene??!!?

Wow you guys are right. I def got TDKR vibes from the BR trailer. That's funny, because I think the Joker he looks the most like is TDKR. With a splash of Capullo

Just recast this mofo as well. Ben Affleck killed it as Batman, and now he's gone. Jared Leto was the worst onscreen Joker and he's apparently sticking around? Nah

Give me a new Batman and a new Joker.

Weird that we'll never get Affleck vs Leto.

Totally agree. If Affleck is out there's no reason not to recast Joker too. Sacrifice a little continuity to get it right.
