The Joker Thread - Part 1

Old people make me uncomfortable with all the lines on their faces and their dentures ewwwwwwwww

Speaking of which, I was just looking at some TDK concept art an hour ago, and I feel like it proves a purple suit could work even in this universe.

This but with a green shirt, gloves, and dress pants.

Ledger's suit was at least partly purple, wasn't it?
Yeah the gloves, overcoat, and pants were all purple. For all intents and purposes, it WAS a purple suit; apparently Nolan didn't even want THAT IIRC, but the concept art made him change his mind.

Would a gangster Joker feel out of place in this universe? At the very least I feel like he should have connections.

Given the aesthetic of the film, I'm leaning more towards a "gothic" Joker.

Do you think his suit should be a little more muted too, or just the hair and skin?

I think that's very possible. But I can also still Reeves going for something like a somewhat David Bowie-inspired Joker too.

In terms of writing at least, I really do get the feeling that TDKR Joker seems to be one of the iterations of the character that seems to potentially best fit in with Reeves' aesthetic for Batman.

If that's the case, then I'd rather have a more "Killer Smile" type Joker just because I can't really see him looking super classic while acting like TDKR Joker. The former still seems a little jovial to balance it out while still looking pretty traditional

I dunno, I feel like while there is some level of visual flair with TDKR Joker's design, I'd still say the Thin White Duke-inspired look is among the more understated looks for the character. And if Nolan was able to successfully make Joker's classic purple outfit work and feel natural in his world, I feel like Reeves could absolutely do the same with this.

That said, I can also easily see Joker: Killer Smile as a potential point of reference for Reeves' take on the character in this world too.

But as of late, I think TDKR Joker just makes a ton of sense overall. That version of the character strikes a great balance of depicting Joker as a psychotic mass murderer and something almost otherworldly in how he feels permanently tied to the existence and actions of Batman, as though he were a demon.

Classy, short hair, thin but not anorexic looking. Demonic, seductive, a good sense of style. It’s time to show a scene where he applies lipstick and later hits on Batman.

I wouldn't mind anorexic Joker again. It's super effective, and they could just convey that with makeup around the cheekbones and stuff like that to make it look like his skin is almost pulled over his skull.

I LOVE this design, with the purple jacket and pants, white shirt, green bowtie, etc.
It very much says "JOKER" without being too stylized. Clean him up a bit with some hair gel, maaaaaybe give him a flower lapel, lose the Band-Aids (as cool as they make him look here). He'd look great.

His face reminds me of Leto.
Bad thing or good thing? Guess it proves how cool he could've looked.
Either way I see Leto, Paul Bettany, and/or Guy Pearce. Maaaaaybe Dafoe (huge maybe, just because this Joker's face isn't as exaggerated).

I like the band-aids on his face. A Joker with some of bandage over his nose like Ryan Gosling in 2049 (or Sandler in Uncut Gems) could be really aesthetically unique if it's from some sort of injury.

I think the band-aids could work well after their first fight, kind of like how the superhero's costume sometimes stays damaged for a while in the movie.

I don't get why foreign Instagram pages have such a hard-on for The Joker.

He's one of my favorite characters in general, but not because I think he's some kind of edgy role model who espouses a bunch of those generic "important lesson quotes for life".

I'm trying to look for nice artwork and more in-hand images of the McFarlane Rebirth Joker, and all I'm seeing is that Facebook and Tumblr crap clogging up my feed.

I wouldn't mind a "Joker's Favor" and/or Batman Annual #3-type subplot where someone with a family finds themselves in The Joker's sight. Being stalked, blackmailed, manipulated, etc.
