The "Keep Hope Alive" (that the rights can revert back to Marvel) thread - Part 5

Are people seriously still whining about the lack of cartoony features?

If that is indeed The Thing, depending on the color, he looks great. You can see some definite orange tint to that. Part of me wonders if the "orange" in this film will be something along the lines of skin flushing. Like, mayne he's a duller color, and turns brighter orange depending on his moods/activities?

I'm not afraid of Fox letting it go dormant, I'm concerned about Marvel.

Once they've got 10 properties that are all more valuable than FF, why would they bother reviving that dead franchise?

The beauty of it is that they can use so many elements from the FF property without launching a reboot of them immediately which is what Marvel truly wants anyways. They would undoubtedly LOVE to use Doom in some capacity but think of all the other possibilities they could incorporate. If Marvel continues to churn out hits going into phase 4, depending on how many ongoing franchises they have FF characters can slowly be phased into it.

Are people still trying to silence others voicing their opinions by simply dismissing it as "whining"?

Interesting....lets see who wins.

I think Marvel would first and foremost like to add a family friendly movie to the MCU. How many families go to films together? The Incredibles is still popular. It's certainly my favorite Pixar film.

It's not that I am a typical audience- I do read comics, after all. As a kid, after getting into comics a little bit, for Christmas I got a subscription to 5 comics( I was a Marvel kid first)- The Avengers (90's Black Knight!), Captain America (around issue #400) -both of which revolved around Operation Galatic Storm-for future reference in the MCU... Spectacular Spider-Man (I liked alliteration), Daredevil and The Punisher (when he was black for half the run). Best gift I ever received. I didn't like the F4 at all, thought they were boring and wondered what's the point of all of them?

I got back into comics in my mid 20s and haven't looked back. It amazes me how life's perspective has changed how I feel about the F4 (of course after reading the books). They are fascinating. With the kids and the FF (Future Foundation) included here the F4 stretch everywhere. They travel time and space*(the easiest way to integrate them). The inter family dynamics are fascinating. Loving their flaws and attributes are like loving your own family.

I think as fanboys grow up and comics in general is a great way to show how the F4 are still relevant ("Maybe we need a little old fashion") in today's comics in all mediums.

If they were reacquired, the F4, as mentioned before, should be on the "Harry Potter" filming schedule. Most importantly, I would pick it up as traveling space (and time) heroes who basically disappeared years ago (hence the time where Franklin and Val could already exist) before IM1. Maybe have the origin split up into among several films(from different POVs), if the shuttle launch was secret (either by the government or privately owned company) to find a weapon (like the Nullifier) the knowledge of would be unknown (unless Black Widow leaked it), show Doom's origin throughout the first two films before they reconnect. Hell they could even find the Red Skull somewhere.

What would make them stand out? The Family aspects of course, but also the First-they could be the frontier of the MCU. I have more thoughts, but I most go pick up my stepdaughter.

Are bat ears on Batman's suit cartoony features? Is the big S which stands for Superman on Superman's chest a cartoony feature? Is Captain America's red, white and blue outfit a cartoony feature together with the A on his head for America? Is the Hulk being green a cartoony feature? Tell me. I want to know.

Sincerely,
A whiner

Is it a coincidence that the picture of the Thing and now Deadpool's alleged test footage are leaking after being a complete no show at CC this past weekend?

I suppose the people who are happy to just get anything from Fox will be pacified. But what say you guys provided these leaks are even legit?

With Marvel stepping up to 3 films a year starting 2017 and now DC trying to step their game up. Should fans expect more from a studio who's been making Marvel films longer than anyone?

Nice - digging these thoughts bro.

That's exactly what I said. This is no coincidence that these images are coming out now because Marvel Studios and WB killed it with their footage while Fox looked like some arses with no footage for a film coming out next year. Now had fans been ecstatic for this movie, no question there would have been footage but now with them being slaughtered with Avengers and DoJ footage, they had to do something. I honestly think GoG is sending a message to Fox from Disney. "F U! You have a major Marvel property and you don't know what to do with it while we are turning D-list characters into box office gold that will probably out gross your original F4. Waste money and put it out while we continue to push obscure characters. You may have won this battle but we win period."

Fox just needs to move this film to October or some ****. What are they realistically expecting? Get out of the way of the Disney 2015 juggernaut. They had an excellent quarter at the box office in 2014. Pick your spots. There is no justification to release this next summer when they had absolutely nothing to show at CC.

Doesn't matter what they move it to, Disney is going to make sure this thing bombs. They will put something around it to make sure it fails. Fox was better off working with Marvel instead of playing bully ball.

They wont move this. There wont be another Fantastic Four film for another seven years. After next year

Not really the same thing.

The bat ears are a truly defining feature, and not just because of a particular visual. Conceptually, they reinforce the image of the bat itself as "ears", and help Batman look somewhat demonic as "horns".

Whereas The Thing's pronounced brow is a bit more common a trait, and basically a trait shared by many movie monsters, creatures, etc. It's exact size, shape, etc is not, in any way, really all that integral to the idea of The Thing himself.

And it would be one thing if The Thing didn't have a pronounced brow at all. But the nod to and existence of such an element is pretty clearly there in that leaked design.

To complain that it is not exaggeratedly pronounced enough is a bit much, I think. Akin to complaining that Batman's long ears are a tad too long or a tad too short, and letting this ruin the whole design for you.

So a nod's as good as a wink to a blind bat?

It's not really even just a nod. That design has a massive and exaggerated brow by pretty much any normal standard.

There is nothing that distinguishes this design from a Kronan. The features I have cited are important identifying features. Just as important as Batman's bat ears. You may disagree if you want but if you didn't tell me this was the Thing I wouldn't know it for sure. It's too generic. I don't see the pronounced brow you are talking about. It is far too subtle. And he's not even orange. I'm not too hung up on the color yet because I know that can change in post but the general impression of these features is highly unsatisfactory.

We're not talking normal standard. He's not supposed to look normal. We're talking Thing standard.

If this is 'cartoony' then my dick's a bloater...

It's also unique, unlike the bust which does resemble the Kronan in Thor 2 a wee bit too much for comfort.

Seriously, the bust does have a good look with the craggy rocks (except the muted colour), and the design is a vast improvement on the Chiklis suit, but with them going CGI that does give them the opportunity to have all his trademark inhuman unnatural facial features, and I'm sorry but imo it's utter BS to say that would be 'cartoony'. I dunno why they would spurn that opportunity for something that could almost pass for prosthetics

Ah well, if the FF end up back with Marvel at least this leaves the door open for them do maybe go for something closer if that ever comes to pass.

I've been saying for a while now the more different this is from the 616 FF the better for those of us pining for the FF in the MCU before we all depart this mortal coil, so a Thing that resembles, but is still rather different from the books, just adds to that. With that in mind I suppose I should hope that muted sandy gray is the colour too...

Yep, that could be an awesome live action Clayface as well.

Or maybe the color looks dull because it's an orange object being blasted by bright green light that's coming from behind?

I think that point has been made a few times already...

What bright green light?

There's no green light. There's a green wall, that light might be reflecting off of. But it wouldn't diffuse the orange color of Thing THAT much if he was an accurate orange. Not as much as a "bright green light" would, which there isn't.

In that photo he looks like a very grayish brown. Like a normal rock.

You'd be surprised how imposing that "green wall" can be on quick, low-light, cell phone photography. That green wall is a green screen volume, which is blasted with an enormous amount of light to get it evenly lit, then loaded with tons of lights to compose a shot with the actors.

A cellphone can blur the colors under these circumstances.
