Release Date: April 20, 2007
Studio: Universal Pictures
Director: Peter Berg
Screenwriter:
Matthew Michael Carnahan
Starring: Jamie Foxx, Chris Cooper, Jennifer Garner, Jason Bateman, Jeremy Piven
Genre: Thriller

Plot Summary: Director Peter Berg, who blisteringly reinterpreted the high-school sports drama with the celebrated "Friday Night Lights," producer Michael Mann, who has defined the high-tension crime genre for more than a decade, ("Heat," "Collateral," "Miami Vice") and producer Scott Stuber ("You, Me and Dupree," "The Break-Up") join Oscar winner Jamie Foxx in a timely thriller about the explosive clash that happens when Middle East meets West: "The Kingdom."

Foxx stars as whip-smart FBI Special Agent Ronald Fleury, who has just received the assignment of his career: assemble an elite team (played by Jennifer Garner, Oscar winner Chris Cooper and Jason Bateman) to hunt down and capture the terrorist mastermind responsible for a deadly attack on Americans working in Saudi Arabia. The feds have only one week to infiltrate and cripple a cell bent on jihad to western society.

No training could prepare Fleury and his team for the disorienting culture shock they face once inside this scorching foreign land, byzantine maze of politicians, storefront terrorists and double-crossing businessmen who traffic in profiteering and exploit any opportunity to grow ever richer, no matter the human cost. Bound by handlers who refuse to play ball with the U.S., the agents quickly find the local law enforcement more hindrance than help and soon grow uncertain of anybody's allegiance.

But when a sympathetic Saudi police captain helps them navigate Riyadh politics and investigate the true cause of the attack, Fleury finds an unexpected comrade-in-arms. In their lightning fast attempt to crack the case, the partners search leads them straight to the killer's front door. Now in a fight for their own lives, two teams on opposite sides of the war on terror won't stop until vengeance is found in "The Kindgom."

I really like the look of this,it feels like Syrianna meets NCIS:up:

Sweet, I've been looking forward to the trailer.

Nice, looks good.

Peter Berg has impressed me so far with Friday Night Lights and The Rundown, this looks like a good progression.

Looks pretty solid. Depending on the critical feedback, I may check it out.

I'll also agree... think it looks great... much better than Home of the Brave, that movie was pure crap (as in, "middle eastern" movies, since there are so many...) And Jamie Foxx rules... Only thing is I think Jennifer Garner is a disaster of an actress - especially in a action movie?! she's just gunna cower and cry the entire time... but otherwise looks intense... pre-Spidey 3 release in April, too!

I like Peter Berg's directing. Movie looks like it might be a smart action movie. And it's about time Hollywood had the balls to do a action movie set in the middle east.

I knew there was a reason the trailer looked so enticing; Michael Mann is producing.

it's sad and depressing to know that the youth of america gets their information about the middle east through the eyes of pop culture.

When did they do a big screen version of Alias in the middle east. Honestly though Jennifer Garner and most of the cast do make it look interesting. But is anyone but me tired of Jamie Foxx. That kind of role would be better suited for Denzal Washinton, Samuel L Jackson or even a white guy named Kiefer. But then it would have to be called 24.

The Kingdom Pushed From Spring To Fall

If you were at all anxious to see Peter Berg's latest flick, The Kingdom, which was supposed to be released on April 20th, you're going to have a nice lesson in patience. Due to the positive reactions during test screenings, the film's release date has been pushed back to September 28th, Columbus Day weekend. Adam Fogelson, Universal's marketing president, wants to create buzz for the film, and not doom it -- apparently no April feature released after Easter beats $90 million, and people would rather watch some movies than remember Columbus.

Fogelson's descriptions of the test-screenings bode well for the Mideast drama: "We had screenings at the high end of extraordinary. The big and obvious points of the film worked, but also a great deal of its subtlety had an immense impact on audiences." Talking up the film this much means that when it does finally drop, it better deliver, or there might be a Columbus Day riot -- and the film already has its share of tragedy. Kingdom centers on Jamie Foxx, an FBI special agent who has to put together a team (Jennifer Garner, Chris Cooper, Jason Bateman) to capture a terrorist responsible for an attack on Americans working in Saudi Arabia. It sounds like all sorts of action goodness, but I still can't believe it's coming from the same guy who was in Aspen Extreme and Fire in the Sky.

deffinately a must see, but did they really describe foxx's character as whip smart? Isn't that a reach for new buzz words?

Just watched the trailer looks good, Foxx and Ganer are in it, so I will see it.

This and American Gangster are my most anticipated post-summer films.
