His influence is still felt in today's movies, even comic book ones, Watchmen's "Nixon War Room" scenes are a clear nod to Dr Strangelove and Alex De Large from A Clockwork Orange was allegedly a source of inspiration in the creation of Heath Ledger legendary Joker.

I couldn't find a thread on the Master and thought he deserved one but please merge if it already exists.

This is a place to discuss all things Kubrick and your favourite film of his.
I personally can't pick up the one I like best so :

_ Paths of glory : Great anti-war film.
_ Dr Strangelove : Peter Sellers at his best.
_ A Clockwork Orange : Still disturbing and powerful after all these years.
_ Barry Lyndon : Kubrick's unsung masterpiece, like paintings coming to life.
_ The Shining : Jack Torrance was a better Joker than Jack Napier IMO.

I've only seen two of his films in their entirety: The Shining and Full Metal Jacket. Both of them are great films. I've also seen pieces of Eyes Wide Shut, which I didn't like. I really want to check out A Clockwork Orange.

Yeah, you should, it's great. I agree with you on Eyes Wide Shut, probably the only Kubrick film I didn't really like that much either.

It's quite simple : he is my God.
My all-time favorite director, a genius who made movies like nobody else.
(not a surprise that every talented film-makers love him and feel influenced by him)

Lol. Me too. And I am sending you a friend request to prove it:woot:.

I loved german guy in the war room in watchmen, pure coolness.

Wasn't Kubrick invovled with A.I. for a short before he passed on?

he was. he even wanted a real robot to play the kid's part. too bad Spielberg finished the product..

I tell you what (who) needs more love: Barry Lyndon.

QFT. I am at loss for words to describe how amazing and beautiful this movie is.

Yeah, Kubrick's A.I would have probably been a very different animal.
As for his Napoleon, I think Barry Lyndon is a pretty good indicator of what it would have looked like.

right, for Lyndon he used some of the stuff he came up with while doing research for Napoleon

Funny to think that Leon Vitali, Lord Bullingdon himself, became Kubrick's personal assistant later on in life and allegedly found the kid that would play Danny in The Shining.

I've been a fan of Kubrick's work ever since seeing "Spartacus," when I was in the 8th grade. When I turned 17, my uncle got me the entire Kubrick DVD Collection for my Birthday (consisting of "2001: A Space Odyssey," "A Clockwork Orange," "The Shining," "Full Metal Jacket" and "Eye's Wide Shut.") and I now have a Kubrick marathon of each film annually every December.

He had such a remarkable eye for framing and composition. The pacing is slow and conscise, so you really have to be in the right mood for his films. But they're so powerful in both story and visuals.

"Clockwork Orange" is my personal favorite...followed closely by "Dr. Strangelove."

"There's no fighting in the War Room!"

Kubrick is Classic --

I'm a big fan of Kubrick also and his best films for me are
1. Full Metal Jacket
2. The Shining
3. Paths Of Glory
4. A Clockwork Orange
5. Dr. Strangelove
6. 2001: A Space Odyssey
7. The Killing
8. Spartacus

not one mention of Lolita

Greatest director ever in film in my opinion. I remember seeing 2001:A Space Odyssey when I was thirteen years old and it changed the way I view movies. The man was true master of his craft and it's ashame he didn't make more films. But the ones we did get are masterpieces.

My favorite Kubrick films:

1. 2001: A space odyssey 9.5/10
2. A clockwork orange 9.5/10
3. Dr.Strangelove 9/10
4. The Shinning 8/10

Those are the only Kubrick films I've seen. I really would like to watch Full Metal Jacket
