Now here's one of those rare remakes that can be awesome just like "The Thing", "The Blob", "The Hills Have Eyes", "The Fly", "King Kong 2005", "The Ring", "Dawn of the Dead", "Night of the Living Dead", "Invasion of the Body Snatchers", and "My Bloody Valentine 3D".This is one is far better then the outdated cult original which hasn't aged well like some of it's 70's horror bretheren like "Jaws", "The Exorcist", "Halloween", "The Omen" etc. but sadly "Last House" isn't one of them. I still think "The Devil's Rejects" and "Maniac (1980)" were better movies then Wes Craven's terrible original Last House. It may seem like a cash-in on films like "Hostel" and "Saw" on bringing the rough tough horror genre back on it's feet after the post-Scream irony horror flicks but this is one hell of a thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

These were awesome?

And there's a thread already...

too bad no one saw it.... it truly is a great movie, not just a good remake.

Plus this just seems like a list of movies, rather then a review.

It actually is a pretty good flick. I expected it to be awful, but while not as viscerally repulsive and viscous (in a good way) as the original...it is far better acted, paced and ultimately directed. The real strength comes from the performance of the main villain by the always underrated Garret Dillahunt.

Truly unnerving is the rape scene and it doesn't need the graphic cruelty of the original to succeed and draining all sense of entertainment and pride from the audience...and for this tale to work it needs to. Though it is maybe a little too overly produced and slick in some areas. My two big problems though...

She survives. The original is slightly better despite the bad acting and script...as well as that awful sheriff subplot...because she dies. It is the horror of these parents who have a single child losing her to these monsters which means their revenge is them giving up on life as their happiness is gone from the world and prison for murder is moot...not to protect their daughter. Seeing her enter the water to escape as opposed to accepting her terrible fate and dying alone drowning in sorrow takes away from what has made this a legendary tale in folklore far long before either of these movies.

Also the ending was a little too overthought. The boy should have killed himself like in the original. NO redemption and no second chances, as their daughter didn't get one, neither did her friend. The boy shouldn't either. And the killing of the main villain was overdone. The chainsaw was merciless and simple. A microwave? REALLY?! But the other two murders were far more spontaneous and messy, i.e. real, than the original. So it balances out.

But it was quite good for a horror movie and far superior to Hostel, Saw or the like. So I agree.

i was shocked by this movie, but yea, i'd say if you like edge of the seat movies, this is one to see
