So they revealed that Ellie will be the main playable character. I'm guessing that it's the opposite of the first game, with Ellie being the playable character most of the time with a chapter where you play as Joel. I can't see them going a whole game without having him as a playable character.

Interesting theory. It could be very possible. I'm sure that group is bound to show up again regardless, might as well make them antagonists for this game.

I was expecting Naughty Dog to come with a new IP, but...
It's TLOS 2 and of course I'm in. I really hope they surprise us with where this story is going and it doesn't feel like just more of what we already had.

As much as I'm looking forward to this, part of me wonders if trying to do a sequel is almost a thankless task. Expectations are going to be through the roof.

Naughty Dog did 3 sequels to Uncharted. I think they can handle themselves.

You are correct but at the same time there was something about The Last of Us which kinda stood out from other games. It was far more cinematic IMO, in fact I'd go so far to say it's one of the best stories of any medium over the last 10 years. It's a very big ask to follow on from that. Not surprised Ellie is the playable character, in fact I always assumed she would be in any sequel. I get the feeling though Joel might not make much of an appearance this time around, his story was kinda told in the first game.

That's pretty much what I'm expecting, yeah.

Joel will probably Ellie's emotional anchor throughout, jmc. Assuming she isn't bitter about him being responsible for the cure not being developed.

I actually got the impression from the trailer that Joel might be dead and Ellie is having some kind of hallucination. The fact that he's never shown directly could be suggesting that.
