Horror 'The Last of Us' HBO Series

After I played TLOU Part II when it first came out, I felt really depressed afterwards because of how bleak of a game it is. I wasn't in any rush to replay it. But flash forward to today after I listened to the last episode of the companion podcast with Ashley Johnson as a special guest and between that and having watched the first season, I'm ready for a replay.

We are in agreement about Last of Us part 2 being one of the best games of all time. After the shock of what happened. The story just got better and better. I still can’t believe gamers could produce such a great apocalyptic story. Hope they create other games that get away from the Elle story line. Maybe even go to different countries. A story about what happened in London, England would be awesome.
I'd definitely take a story based in central London!

It ..ain't meant to be easy, we need to suffer. :cwink:

I thought it was just fine. Bits I liked, and bits I didn't. I imagine I'll have a tougher time with the next seasons, as Part 2 is my favourite game of all time, and a big part of that is how they chose to structure it. But we'll see what they decide to do!

Imagine the infected inside the Subway system it will be creepier then the infected in the Seattle hospital in the second game. By the way they gotta bring that infected ship to live action. That was some scary stuff. Best game ever……

You're saying that as if there's no reason to criticize any of his decisions since taking over WB leadership.

Pretty sure the main reason this show is great isn't because of him. :funny:

I never said any of that though lol its just always funny. I'm well aware he's not involved in anything creatively

I only said that because his name came up with the Blu-Ray/4k release and the same type of comments came up. It's just predictable.

I think they might just show a younger version of the character. Part 2 takes place 4/5 years later remember. So they could always re-cast an older actress as the grown up version.
Why would they recast? Bella was 17 when she was cast and first filmed to play a 14 year old Ellie. She's 19 right now and is the perfect age to play a 19 year old. Plus te game featured flashbacks throughout the 5 year time gap so she'd have to cover Ellie at different ages. Bella can do that

I'm confident she can as well. She has shown herself more than capable of performing a tough role. :)

I guess the feeling is that she doesn't look her age, and on that I don't disagree. She's pretty tiny, and I'm not sure there's much they could really do to make her look her age. She's just going to have to sell it through her performance.

Finally had the chance to see this and being a big fan of the game I was looking forward to see how it would feel and look in comparison. I thought it was good just not great, I would probably rate it at around an 8 out of 10, it’s a considerably better game than it’s a series.

Pascal did a pretty good job as Joel, actually better than I thought because at first I didn’t see him as that character but they did some “movie” magic and he really brought a lot to the character as well. I thought the actress who played Ellie was good, maybe not what I was expecting of that character but it sort of worked nonetheless. Having said that I think that the main 2 chemistry and their relationship while good wasn’t great.

A lot of good stuff for sure, the ambiance, vibe, sounds, visuals… all looked pretty solid. Some good side characters as well. It started well and it had some solid bits/peaks but sometimes it just veered off too much of the main thread and without much of worthwhile pay offs, sometimes it wrote itself into a corner and it sort of magically turned out ok, just a bit too convenient and lazy in places where i wish the story was better sowed/woven together.

All in all a solid watch with some good stuff sprinkled throughout just not at the level I was expecting it to be. Maybe the game is just such a gem that it’s a though nut to get spot on, they did good enough though…

So glad they aren't recasting Bella Ramsay. She is an absolute revelation of a performer and I cannot wait to see her transformation throughout this series. Her and Pascal, along with Mazin, took two characters who were great to begin with and added so much more to them.

The fans would riot if they tried to replace her, lol.

I was talking about Abby. That would mean the younger actress wouldn't have to get jacked like game Abby was. Though I would take a less jacked Abby for the show.

I also agree about the 2nd game being one of the best ever. I found it amazing and got the platinum for the base game. That was only a couple of weeks ago. I do think they can make changes for the show though to make it flow a bit better.

So, I just finished listening to the last episode of The Prestige TV podcast, and there’s a section at the very end where they interviewed both Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin. At the very end, Mazin clarified the “They don’t know anything, we know everything” quote as just referring to simply knowing “the secrets of the production”, not him being a know it all and saying journalists are dumb-dumbs.

Same with him and the infamous “pixels” quote. Many articles interpreted that as him saying deaths of the main characters in the TLOU game don’t have as much impact in live action because they’re not real. He was actually referring to the NPC’s getting reset each time you die diminishing your impact to connect with them as characters and making them just feel like obstacles you have to overcome. With the benefit of hindsight, he was most likely referring to how he was able to flesh out some more of those background characters and humanize them within the show. That’s it.

Once again, journalism twisting somebody’s words to create controversy for clicks.

Marlene had to learn "If you want something done right, do it yourself" the hard way. I know Joel wasn't originally intended to take her across the country himself, but if Ellie was so vital, why didn't she oversee bringing her to Salt Lake City herself if she was going there anyway?

Well she was bleeding out at the time, so I feel like she wasn't confident she'd even be getting out of Boston alive, let alone feeling like she could keep precious cargo safe on the journey. She knew Joel & Tess were pros at the smuggling, so I don't blame her for thinking they were her best bet.

I hope they take the same approach to the new seasons honestly. Abby's friends, the wolves and the seraphites could all do with a bit more development or more time spent on them at least.

And then you have the likes of Dina and Jesse, etc who I would happily spend more time with.

Great points. If the show can make people love the video game Bill imagine what they can do for the characters from the second game. I wonder what they gonna do with Liv. That character has lots of potential and will cause controversy.
