Just checked RT.... WOW!!!!... that said the critics have been dead-wrong this summer rather than anywhere close to right, so I think they've just gone loopy.

I don't think average critic ratings work like that...they just don't exactly align with what you want?

I am hoping that something about the film might convince me that Hammer could be Batman.

Lets look on here. On general audience sites. Everywhere by regular people -- people are just largely disagreeing with critics these days. Unless this is the only site where the majority are saying WHD > OHF but seeing how many wanted cheesiness, I don't see how that could be the case. As said, I expect 'Ordinary People' to come out next week and for critics to scream and holler about it not being funny enough because everything must be funny these days to them to them or else. It's just really -- loopy.

They might have got it right this time, but the majority of the summer they seem to have missed the audience mark.

Note: I will say 'After Earth' they got right though, but batting average isn't looking that good for them these days in agreeing with the audience.

Depp is a big draw so might as well put him front and center.

ex: After Earth and Will Smith

Obviously depp is the draw but there are reasons to not necessarily 100% hitch their wagon to depp only and try to promote the film on its own merits as well as with hammer.

Disney obviously wanted their cake and eat it too. They knew depp wanted to play tonto and the film would be centered around him but also knew the name "lone ranger" was still more recognizable to the public even if they weren't that familiar with the specifics of the franchise anymore.

I don't think critics have been wrong or right. They give their opinions and you either agree with them or you don't. Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't. Do they have biases? Yeah they are human but it doesn't bother me to much. I don't care if the whole world hates a movie and I like it or the whole world likes a movie and I don't.

Anyway THR said that Lone Ranger is tracking to do 70mil for the long Holliday weekend.

70 million over 4 days? This films going to need to have very strong legs to recoup.

lone ranger is not the role to do that lone ranger is a very heroic straight man hero not very much like batman at all

i think if anything it will show hammer can be a good heroic lead actor since review have said him and depp are pretty good in thier roles

Why do you want to be convinced? I'm perfectly happy being unconvinced by him and rooting for someone else to get the role.

In all honesty he probably would have fared better as Green Hornet than Rogen. That I would have watched.

I can't believe Disney sank $230m into a movie about the god damned Lone Ranger.

i think hammer would be good in other roles not batman he just looks too nice and cookie cutter he would be a good aquaman tho

Agreed, The Lone Ranger will probably not have many Batman qualities. I like Hammer, I think he is a charming and talented actor and I think it would be interesting to see him play Batman. Do I know if he is right for the role? No but if he were cast I like him enough to give him a shot. Him being taller than Cavill is...interesting. But camera tricks galore and no problemo.

yeah not sure about batman but not fair to judge since he hasn't really had a dark brooding role

but he'd be a great bruce wayne that much i do know

I dunno. I'm hoping some actor will stand out to me. Besides Caviezel (who is too old) I don't really have a pick for Batman. There's a few Hammer supporters on these boards and he was once cast as Batman, so I guess I want to see why.

Makes sense, I suppose. I just have no interest in seeing him as Batman whatsoever, and I don't have any hopes/expectations that this movie will change that.

It's being released on Wed so I believe that number is for 5 days. If it hits that number that's actually more than I thought it would do in that span of time. Despicable Me 2 is going to be the real big opener though. It's going to be interesting to see where the chips fall.

yeah you may have to wait for another role like i said the lone ranger is more of a straight man hero like captain America not anything like bruce

Kind of shocked at the RT score. I absolutely adore the original Pirates trilogy, it's a guilty pleasure of mine. Even DMC and AWE. I loved them all.

So I'm holding out hope for this.

Even when I champion an actor for a Superhero role I'm still skeptical until I see the film. I don't have a choice for Batman and I'm willing to give most 25-40 year old white male actors a chance.

Don't let reviews get you down Dave, if you think it looks good go see it and decide for yourself.

Just saw the movie. Absolutely loved it. Very, very fun. Action is graphic at times, but not much more than the Pirates movies. As a long time fan of the character (met Clayton Moore twice, have his autograph hanging in my bedroom) I applaud what they did with the story.

That is all

They got 7pm showings tomorrow night so I'll see what's up.

What rating would you give it?

Glad you enjoyed it, Poni, especially since you're a fan of the character. I'll be checking it out this weekend, I'm sure.

I definitely have people in mind for that role, and even different "types" depending on the type of Batman we get, but Hammer doesn't fit any of the types I'm hoping to see, so I'd have a hard time getting excited about a Batflick with him in the lead. Not saying it couldn't happen, just saying...it would be an uphill battle, lol.
