The Looney Tunes Thread

Though if Elmer connects with that scythe it'd be a lot more graphic than if he shot him.

I saw all the episodes. Most are a retelling of previous cartoons with a few changes but they were almost all good. A few were kind of "meh" but overall it was a good mix of the classic with the modern. They got the voices spot on and the animation too. The guns are not too noticably absent most of the time either. Though the scythe was definitely odd.

Is it a different team doing the Space Jam 2 versions? Because wasn’t a big criticism of the first Space Jam that the Looney Tunes characters were, well, out of character for the most part? It’d be pretty great if they kept the classic 1940s feel of the characters like this for the film.

Personally I hope we get full tiny Toons episodes at some point. Those things are a ***** to find online without paying.

I did not know that.

The scythe really doesn't make a bit of sense. Elmer is a hunter. Most hunters use guns. Either give him a gun or don't make him a hunter. People do not use scythes to hunt.

Their reasoning is certainly weak. If you can blow up characters but not shoot at them with a musket .....doesnt really make sense.

They are very much the Looneys of old, so much so they were at a few points shot for shot remakes. Same with the original content. Very much their old selves.

The best way to explain it is how easy are kids going to get access to dynamite or an anvil? Now how hard is it for one to find a gun?

Yes, child related gun deaths is much bigger over child related dynamite deaths. Not saying cartoons cause violence in children, but it’s definitely a sensitive subject to be sure. I can see why they’re treading lightly in terms of gun violence over TNT or anvils.

Definitely true. Though I think if they kept it a musket or whatever, it'd probably have less impact, or have some kind of PSA at the end of his segments about guns. OR just give him a net gun. Is that a thing? Something that shoots nets?

Net guns are definitely a thing but they wanted to stay away from guns of any kind. Apparently they did a focus group and used that feedback.

edit: then again this article has a showrunner claiming it was their choice. Whatever or whoever was behind it, the end result is the same: the ubiquity of guns makes it unpalatable at this time.

I think it would make a lot more sense to just put the characters in situations where they don't need a gun. Elmer wasn't a hunter at first, he was just a dumpy-looking dope who acted as a foil to Bugs.

I mean, come on, a scythe???

To be fair there are a few episodes where Fudd and Bugs are not hunter/prey. One is Fudd trying to paint in the forest, another is he is trying to cook Bugs for dinner (retconing his vegetarian past) and the like where one or the other is the offender.

Actually I don‘t understand that approach - in cartoons you never sympathize with the vilain , and Elmar is the the vilain.
I don‘t think, that assasinations in the USA happen, because the the cartoon vilains use guns.
If Bugs uses the gun, it would be more of a problem, but not the vilain

I understand it’s a sensitive subject but guns in cartoons don’t make kids want to kill. Bad parents who don’t raise their kids properly are at fault.

South Park specifically warned us about this.

Just like video games are no more dangerous either but you have to deal with public ignorance occasionally and in this case they gave into it.
