Popeyes brings the chicken sandwich back today; and the chain says it can meet the demand
When Popeyes fast-food restaurant introduced its new chicken sandwich in August, it sold out in less than two weeks. The company announced the sandwich is back, for good, on Sunday.
Sunday is a big day for fast-food lovers.
Popeyes’ chicken sandwiches are making a permeant return to the chain’s menu.
Back in August, Popeyes’ newly-introduced chicken sandwiches sold out in less than two weeks, following long lines nationwide for the crispy concoctions.
And another mad dash to Popeyes could be in store Sunday after the company announced on Twitter last week, “Ya’ll… the sandwich is back Sunday, Nov. 3rd. Then every day.” It got quite the reaction with more than 87,000 people “liking” the tweet and more than 31,000 followers retweeting it.
Popeyes’ chicken sandwich sparked a social media frenzy when it arrived Aug. 12. A week later, Popeyes started a viral feud with Chick-fil-A and other fast food restaurants over who serves the best chicken sandwich.
But the sandwiches quickly sold out by Aug. 27 with the chain blaming “extraordinary demand," saying it was working with its suppliers to bring the sandwich back as soon as possible.
The chicken sandwiches are back Sunday, coinciding with the day rival Chick-fil-A is closed and with National Sandwich Day.
“Across the system, franchisees have worked to increase staffing to be ready to serve guests once the chicken sandwich returns,” Felipe Athayde, president of Popeyes for the Americas,
told USA TODAY. “We’ve learned from this experience and are looking forward to serving the chicken sandwich to our guests again.”
Head of marketing Bruno Cardinali
told CNN the company plans to offer the sandwich for a long time and “We are confident that we’ll be able to meet the demand.”
