was in the forbidden planet yesterday and there is a making of SM3 and the book is amazing. it is hard backed about an inch thick and has tons of photos of production. retails at £23 (I'm guessing $40 dollars but don't qoute me)

the best thing about it is a picture of spider in a mock up which spider suit just like the comics, so sam DID attempt it but I guess decided to just do a black version of his read and blues.

this book is a MUST BUY it absolutely blows the first two books out of the water. should have taken pictures but I'm sure if you do a goggle search on the book it will show it.

apologises if there is already a thread on this.

I got this book when it came out, it's an excellent read. It has lots of wonderful art and there is alot of information about the process making the movie and whatnot.

It also details how Raimi wanted the villains to be the Sandman and the Vulture.

YUp, I agree, I love the concept art pieces from the book :D Good stuff!

Anyone care to scan the art and post them here?

the concept art is amazing! got the book on may 4th!
What Web-Head said. Got it before going to the first screening of Spider-Man 3 at the local cinema :woot: :hyper:
I have all 3 "making of" books from the Spider-Man trilogy, they're all great reads :word:

I like them all,but the first one is probably my favourite :yay:
It goes really in depth about what went on, the actors they tried contacting for the roles; the screen tests; the development of the CGI webbing; and my favourite part was about the design & construction of the suit, how they wanted to update it, yet keep it classic Spidey & iconic
Things such as the use of a helmet type mask, which I'm glad got scrapped for the traditional mask :woot: :hyper:
Concepts of the Green Goblin armour & arsenal was good too :word:
All 10/10, but the first edges it for me :oldrazz:

I want to see them!

I saw it in a book store and flipped through it. It looked cool but I personally have no need to know every little detail about the production. But hey, I'm sure there are many film buffs or Spidey fans that sure do.

There have been two threads to my recollection about it.

I got it off £15 off Amazon UK. You were robbed. Never buy anything from FP, it will always be cheaper somewhere else.

Haven't bought the book yet but one of the artists has posted some artwork on his blog with some pretty interesting info on the production.A lot was changed in before and during production.

Spidey 3

Here are a few keyframes I did for Spidey 3 a few years back. I joined the embattled project pretty late in the game, right after the production design regime change from Neil Spisak to Mike Riva a few weeks into principle photography. We were only a few weeks out from shooting the final battle scene and they had already started building a full-sized set of the first few stories of a skyscraper under construction. Unfortunately the actual scene to take place in the set hadn't been written yet.

I was brought in initially to visualize some of the action and also to design how the same set could be dressed to represent several different levels of the building under construction.

I've never been on a movie where the script changed so radically so often. I wouldn't be half-way through a keyframe when someone would look over my shoulder and say "Oh. Didn't you know? It's no longer Venom in that scene, it's Goblin..." This is why we paint in layers...
It was also pretty political with the change-over in art department. Jim Carson and I kept getting asked to do pretty much the same work, which was really demoralizing, particularly for him since he'd been on the project for over a year already doing great work. I felt really bad, it just wasn't a fun environment. The construction site set ended up being struck and rebuilt twice more for re-shoots. Ahh, this is how movies are made these days. And we wonder why they're so expensive... Anyway, on to the art...

The construction site, ground level. The illustration was painted over a photo of a foamcore & plastic maquette by Brent Phillips of the basic structure. I had to make this in an infuriating number of layers so that elements could be removed and added to dress the other levels. The other versions are even more boring than this though, as they consist of even more removed.

The big battle with Sandman. This version is based on the character design by EJ Krisor, but really doesn't do his awesome version justice. This shot owes a lot to Jim Carson's previous version which you can see on his site HERE.

Continued....

Spidey swinging to the rescue, back when it was Gwen Stacey in her sports car, not MJ in a taxi.

And speak of the devil...

I can't even remember which way this went in the final film. I think it was venom coming out of the shadows and not goblin, but I can't be sure, since I painted it both ways.

This ended up pretty verbatim in the movie, which I was pleased about. Really saccharine colors, but fun to paint, since it was all freehand and not bogged down in a thousand layers of photo-manipulation!

Nice find!
I want this book, think I'll get it for Christmas. We never got it here where I live. =(

Concept art is amazing. No matter what, a film can't match it to me. Ever. The art holds more mystery, and is more detailed then a moving frame.

Damn, that art of Venom in the shadows in MJ's apartment could of been so damn good. It could of replaced the Harry one.

that was definitely meant for a "Honey, I'm Home!" moment. It's a shame they did not have it in the movie

I got that book back when the movie first came out. Great book! I especially love the artwork of EJ Krisor. My God,his drawings of Venom were so awesome!! He really captured the rage behind Eddie Brock/Venom perfectly.
In fact,I wish they had posters of that art cause' I'd get them in a second.
