The Dark Knight The Man Who Laughs: The Joker Thread 2.0

Look, I'm not putting down the whole portrayal, just the appearance. And when people imply that his appearance don't matter, I find that disheartening.

ok fair enuff geeze no worries. glad we straightened that out. after all......

WhY SoooOOoo SeRiOUsssss?

Does anyone else remember the horrible, mind-numbingly bad BTAS episode "Be a Clown", where The Joker disguised as a more traditional clown to get access to a children's party?

Yes.

i was just wondering aswell what do people think about the jokers them music? i read a interview with has zimmer thats its going to be really industrial and trent reznor-ish. i think that would be a perfect take on this portrayal of the joker. what does everyone else think?

That was from the first season, and Bruce Timm said they hadn't quite gotten the Joker's character down yet.

Fine, then this could be your Joker

That's stretching the word 'vague' an awful lot.

That's a great episode, Joker. Paints the picture of his character perfectly.

Permawhite didn't matter to me one bit, no one outside the hardcore fanbase will care much about it anyways. purple suit, white face, laugh, red lipstick and green hair, that makes the joker for me, anything else is nitpicking IMO.

@ ace o knaves, there was quite some inquistive talk about jokers theme, in the thread about the soundtrack clips. I dont know if we heard any of it. I can't wait to listen to the whole thing though.

It could be, as long as he acts the same way.

It wouldn't be the best idea to have him look that way, but for all we know it could work.

"Right.................................................."

In less than a month Batman will come face to face for the first time with his archnemesis the Joker (my favourite incarnation so far on the big screen even though I haven't seen more than 2 or 3 minutes of footage).

Wow ! It's a great time to be a Batfan:up:.

I've been so euphoric just thinking about it X)

It's so strange, I got into the Joker about a little over a year ago, and like within a week of realizing my overflowing obsession I found out this movie was being made and almost **** my pants. :)

I have been a Joker fan for more than 20 yearsbut we are completely on the same page , my friend :yay:.

One of the things I love about the Joker is that he really doesn´t have a definitive origin in the comicverse

Basically, he is crazy, but for the sake and fun of being crazy, he could live a normal life, but he prefers to go over the top

But now in TDK... but sake of "realism" we have a badly scared joker, that probably loses his mind because of some freak accident that left his face with a permanent ugly scar that looks like a smile... so he mgiht be traumaticed by it and started using make up and became a twisted clonw that is as twisted as his smile...

but.... I don´t know... that back story might be to similar to the back story of two-face: and psicological unstable guy who is badly scared and losses his mind...

In this way, isn´t this joker basically the bad side of two-face all the time?

Harvey Dent just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and had some enemies who wanted to harm him.

He just took advantage of his misfortune to decide the fate of others, I think he's mentally stable enough to know what he's doing.

Hence the coin-flipping for his reaction, the Joker is just a straight up crazy ass mofo.

Two Face in TDK is supposedly this: The good side (Dent) is an exaggeration of the heroic side of Bats, while the bad side (Two-Face) is an exaggeration of Batman's vengeful side. At least according to a recent interview I read...

I think it was rumored that the Joker himself cuts the scars on his mouth himself. He intentionally wanted to be the Joker. His persona is not a result of his deformity. The other way around rather.

Now hear me out. This came to my attention when I saw the Joker pic on the Reeses site:

http://www.hersheys.com/reeses/darkknight/

Now go to the revenge videos and you'll notice the Joker pic is flipped, which you can tell because his hair is parted the wrong way, making him look kinda awkward.

So anyways, that got me thinkin about hair parts, so I looked into it on google and found this tidbit that's quite interesting:

http://www.truemirror.com/theory01.asp

Mainly, this portion here:

The Hair Part Theory will enable individuals to become aware of the messages they could be projecting with their choice of hair part. The characteristics associated with each type of hair part for each gender are as follows:

Men W/Left Part: Natural for men, usually works well for them. Perceived as popular, successful, strong, traditional. Can be out of touch with the feminine side of themselves. Examples: John Wayne, Tom Brokaw, John F. Kennedy, Edward M. Kennedy

Men W/Right Part: Usually unnatural for men. Can create an uncomfortable image; can cause social shunning, sometimes leading to unusual or eccentric behavior. Perceived as atypical, open, radical. Can work ok if the man is very confident, attractive, or striving to be respected in a non-traditional male role. Examples: Al Gore, Rush Limbaugh, Robert F. Kennedy, Charlie Rose, Tom Snyder

Men + Women W/No Part, Natural for men and women. Perceived as balanced, trustworthy and wise. Can lack the flair associated with
Center Part or Bald: the other types. Examples: U.S. Presidents 1-9, Joseph P. Kennedy II, Sean Connery

Which is odd, because I checked and most of the other male characters: Bruce, Harvey, Alfred, Gordon; all have left parts, while Lucius and at times Gordon have no part, where as The Joker has a very prominent right part.

So do you guys think there's anything to this, like do you think it was done on purpose, or do you think it's merely coincidence?

Makes you wonder how much subtlty was put into the characters...

^ Well I thought your thread was awesome :csad: :D

I don't think it's a stretch to say the designers would've been aware of this. It's hardly esoteric knowledge for a costume or make-up designer. Likewise, studies have proven beyond a doubt that guys with two day stubble are perceived as less trustworthy, less intelligent, less desirable in pretty much every way, even if subconsciously. And true the Jokers hairpart is in-line with the desired effect.

as a layman you've got a very good eye if you noticed something was weird and put it down to a hair part

.

I don't know if your theory's right but nonetheless a very interesting post.
