The Dark Knight The Man Who Laughs: The Joker Thread 2.0

It's possible. I'm always amazed at how much detail goes into characters that you don't really notice until you read interviews or hear commentaries. Though I did notice the Joker's part was on the wrong side, too.

Im new, but a long time reader and Batfan. i just wanna put my two-cents in. First off, Theres no doubt in my mind, that this is going to be a really great film. i mean really, great cast, great story, great director. And i beleive Heath will make a TERRIFIC JOKER. BUT, i do have to agree with the one little nitpick that the purists are all complaining about, and this is the 'perma-white' Joker, but its not so much the perma-white that im in a pickle with, but more the look in general, the Non-permawhite im fine with, its the other things that bug me about the costume choices they made for the film.

To be honest, when i first saw the first leaked Joker picture a year ago, and if i hadn't known it WAS 'the Joker'. i would have no idea what it was, all i see is a black and white photo with lipstick smeared all over a guys face. And as time progressed, it turned out that THAT is indeed the Joker, I just cant agree with the 'look'. no matter how hard i try. Its like dressing Santa Claus in Blue overalls or taking his beard away. Joker is a distinct character whose appearance is STAPLED into our imaginations, and to have it 'tweaked' around to where he is unrecognisable is something thats really hard to get passed. Even if the main obligation is "REALISM" then fine, you can go a realistic route without changing the characters appearence, a long haired, makeup smeared, cut smiled Joker, just doesnt work for me.
If they were gonna go a realistic route, they could of had the same approach, just ditch the long hair and cut smile, and i'll probably be fine. Yes, there is no sense in complaining, since the movie has already been made, but theres no harm in discussing.

But as i was saying, when i think "JOKER", i think THIS:

But thats my opinion, then again im just a nitpicking "NOOB". cheers.

So BatDan, you think that The Joker shoud have that stupid string tie?

lol nice, i actually like the new Joker suit,a vibrantly colored suit would look ridiculous, just only the facial portion (yeah yeah sex jokes away), i have a problem with.

I can see where you are coming from in regards to the first picture we got of the Joker, but I completely disagree about all the pictures released afterwards, particularly when we see Joker smacking his lips in the Arkham interrogation room. That's most definitely Joker, and to me is without a doubt more iconic than any portrayal of the Joker I've ever seen. To me it screams and bleeds Joker, but hey.

Yea we know the Joker is wearing make up and he has a cut face and longer hair than usual, but when I see Ledger as Joker it says Joker to me. I have really grown to love the changes in his appearance.

It kinds of weird. As much of a Batman fan I am (Don't even question it. I have the Bat Signal on my right butt cheek), I feel like I'm anticipating Heath Ledger's performance more than being psyched to see a Batman film. From what I've seen, his acting looks very powerful.

Not to interrupt the new Joker debates, here's a couple of gifs I made from the comics. Nothing special, just thought I'd share.

IMO the essence of the character is intact notwithstanding the obvious changes.

Hey, Postman, maybe you'll have a better chance to get jokerized in the great art thread in the non-spoilers section.

.

I always thought this pic was the closest looking pic to comic book Joker. His make up looks very neat, and there's no smearing on his lipstick.

The hair looks quite green, too.

I agree, it's perfect, it looks so much like that great Kane drawing in Batman #1, I think, where the Joker is frowning with his fingers in front of his mouth.

WELCOME NITPICKING NOOB!! :yay: but yeah we've gone over this many times already. the key word you need to keep in mind is"Adaptation" thats what this joker is an adaptation to a different world of batman. even teh comics themselves go under changes we dotn always like but keep in mind that its still teh characters we know and love

Honestly, I don't fault anyone that's a massive fan of the comics to have somewhat of a disdain for Joker's look in the flick...the long hair thing is mostly the only thing that irks me a tad as opposed to the neat and dapper cut he normally has, but like everyone else is doing, I am merely waiting until the release to see if Ledger has captured the essence.

I wouldn't be surprised if the comics get influenced by Ledger's Joker. I think the Joker sometimes becomes too much of a joke as a character that he no longer has his edge as a super-villian. Well, Ledger definitely gives us villainy.

this will never end. anyway, IN MY OPINION alot of the arguments people who dislike this look of the character can be applied to nicholson's joker if you think about it. he doesn't look like the comic book joker either, both altered the origins, both are psychotic in diffrent ways

Of all the things to point out...

I'm being completely serious. Comic book artists need to stop giving The Joker that stupid tie. He's dapper, he's self absorbed, he's flashy. He should wear a real tie rather than something that makes him look foolish. The Joker doesn't want people laughing at him.

you're not the only one who's been bothered by the string tie. And it is a serious offense :hyper: :joker:. Joker should dress like clown however dressing like an anachronism is quite a different thing. It's due to too many artists defaulting to a standard look or dress code rather than pushing the image of a dapper murder clown or coming up with something unique to their own style. and it's not just the Joker I'd say lots of other characters suffer the same letdown. Hatter, Harlequin, Riddler, even Robin. Artists never take any chances. I'm not talking complete overhauls but just little tweaks and details, nothing that should need editorial approval.
