The Dark Knight The Man Who Laughs: The Joker Thread 2.0

*cough 70rr3nt5 cough*
i'm a tad bit worried i might get a virus if i download any torrents . i mean , i just got a new ****ing hardrive because of the last virus i got from downloading **** ( and no , it wasn't porn :cmad:) .

^Saw none of that, honestly. Thinking about it again, still don't see it.

Very true (but the verge of tears is really pushing it though). Someone else had mention of this, I wish I could find it. It was almost essay like. It may have been in this thread. (sigh) ...so many threads, so many posts, so little time.

yea i find it hard to explain, its like when he screams LOOK AT MEE!!. its like hes pleading, screaming in anguish at what he has become. i think it alludes to the fact that he doesn't take responsibilty and feels severly wronged in his life. maybe he was vain about his looks before and prided himself on them, and then something or a series of events has made him like this. and while he plays along with it soley because he can use his disfigurement to a advantage, deep down he must be so pained and thus angry about what has happened to him. so next time any of you see it pay close attention to his voice when he screams LOOK AT ME!! at first i thought he was just telling brian to look at him, but now i feel there is something much more to that line. see if you can notice it.

well , it IS heath ledger under all that makeup . i'd be pretty damn pissed too if i looked like ledger and then suddenly got my face all ****ed up like he did . :o but yeah , i definitely see what you mean . you can just feel the anger and hatred flow out of him at that part .

google spybot search and destroy and download it, its free and is 10 times better than norton and all that. you can pick individual files to scan for viruses(9 times out of 10 accuratly) or you can search your whole system for problems and destroy them. it also stays running so when your browsing and ad-ware or spy-ware tries to get in, it alerts you immediatly. i highly recommend it.

i actually DID have that program , but i had this annoying ****ing malware that refused to go away no matter how hard i tried , so we had to get a new hardrive .

o rite! thats harsh man i hate it when that happens. last week i had to do a destructive reinstall of windows, pain in the arse i lost everything. but i think its just vista, its fooking crap.

Dude read comments before you download stuff to check if it has a virus, also look at file size. I have downloaded so much stuff. Thousands of decade old comics and kazillion movies. Also, while I do see what some of you are getting at with that Joker line, I thought of it as a way to show the character's more vicious side. Show that even though he was giggling during that scene, he meant business. That yeling makes it clear to Gotham, Batman, and the audience that he is serious.

can someone tell me what comic this joker quote came from ?

"In my dream, the world had suffered a terrible disaster. A black haze shut out the sun, and the darkness was alive with the moans and screams of wounded people. Suddenly, a small light glowed. A candle flickered into life, symbol of hope for millions. A single tiny candle, shining in the ugly dark. I laughed and blew it out."

would've been awesome if it were in the movie . i would've loved to see it in the interrogation scene when joker is talking to gordon and the lights are off .

Shadow of the Bat # 37.

any place where i can read it online ?

Unpack, select file, voila.

The series was loyal to the campy late 50s and 60s comics, but during that time comics were under heavy fire for their content. There was one guy in particular I just can't remember his name right now. Characters like Batman had to be subdued in terms of violence and adult content. SO during this time you can argue that you aren't getting the true character which is Batman, therefore while the show is completely loyal to that time, it isn't loyal to that character per se.

William Gaines, founder of Tales from the Crypt and Mad magazine. Happened during the morality witchhunts of the mid-50's.

that was pretty funny !!! i showed it to a couple of my friends . seeing cesar romero joker with heath ledger's joker voice threatening to kill people and yelling " LOOK AT ME !! " cracked me up .

I wish Bob Kane and Bill Finger were still alive to hear what they think about the Nolans and Ledger's take on the character. I am sure they would have loved it.
I think Jerry Robinson was very impressed by Heath's performance.

Everyone knows how Michael Caine spoke of how Ledger would be talking and realxing during shooting breaks and that the moment the camera rolled he would just stand up and be this different person, and how much that shocked Caine... I didn't really think to much about that until I saw two things.

One that spy footage of Ledger speaking with filmakers as they are filming the Joker riding in the back of the truck. You can see that its just him, standing up straight, laughing and talking with others.

And then the scene where the Joker crashes harvey's fund raiser. You seen Caine in the background backing up as the joker enters the room with the shotgun... and it just feels like a legitimate reaction... Michael Caine is literally thinking WTF is going on? Who the hell is that??? HEATH???

It just really hit home with me today as I was rewatching those two videos. Especially Ledger relaxing in the spy vid, he's standing tall, no predatory slouch, no tics no twitching, hes focused sure, but its him and then WHAM...

I highly suggest people to go watch those videos side by side. Truly amazing. And please stop posting imitations of the Joker on youtube, for your own sake, not ours.

The one thing i will say is that wasnt Heath Ledger THAT WAS THE JOKER

It was that damn good i have never seen someone become so immersed with a role

I mean was Heah Ledger a huge comic book fan? Or did he just know of the character and thought he could do a good job of it??

Anyone know?

Actually he said he hates most comic book movies and thinks they're boring.

He took a lot of flak from some on here for those comments.

Definitely wasn't a comic fan. I think he said he'd never read a comic before, and after getting the role he attempted to read the Killing Joke and Arkham Asylum and couldn't even get through them.

That is shocking if true. Neither are particularly long or wordy comics. If Heath Ledger, paid to act as the principle character of each, and paid handsomely to do so, could not manage to read them from cover to cover, then his literacy or attention span must be in question.

I think it was that he read TKJ all the way, but he couldn't get through Arkham Asylum because of all the psychological undertones. Something to that effect. That's what I remember originally reading, however.

i think it was long halloween he didnt like and didnt bother finishing, but the opposite for AA and KJ.

I don't understand how psychological undertones could prevent someone from reading. More likely is that he stopped reading (if this is true at all; I don't recall hearing this) because Arkham Asylum can simply be challenging to enjoy for individuals not familiar with the format. Both in terms of art and script, it's not exactly a flowing read. I can see why the uninitiated would get fed up and put it down, why they might find it unpleasant or even annoying.

As I said, though, I don't recall anything about what Ledger read or did not read. Someone should track down the relevant comments.

Found it:

IESB: Were there any specific comics you based your version off of?

LEDGER: Well, The Killing Joke is the one that's being passed around and Arkham Asylum kind of. But I really tried to read the comics and put it down. You know, I was a big fan of Jack Nicholson - still am - his portrayal of the Joker was perfect for Tim Burton's world and if Tim Burton had come to me and he was doing the sequel and he asked me to play the Joker in his movie, I wouldn't do it. I couldn't. Because you couldn't touch what Jack Nicholson did. It would be a crime. When Chris came to me, I'd already seen Batman Begins and I really liked it. Because I'd already seen it, I already knew the world, which he had created. I instantly knew of an angle. I instantly knew a way into this character. A way to create a character to fit into this world and so it was fairly immediate. I've got straight away the fact that we're both on the same page in terms of where we want it to be. But I guess we have to wait and see. I haven't seen any of it yet.

So Chris Nolan approached Heath about Joker?I though it was the other way around..... And does anyone else find it interesting that he didnt really read much of the comics but yet he was able to do such a good Joker..
