Should he return? Should he depart the project? Thoughts?

Personally, I think that Marc Webb wasn't the problem, but I'm sure some here think otherwise. And for those who want a replacement director, who would you like to take the reins?

I wouldn't mind if he stayed, but I wouldn't really mind if he left either.

The Peter & Gwen thing was his strength, but with Gwen gone... Yeah.

Wouldn't mind if he stayed, like to see him finish the third film

He should be let go. He's had two tries to make a great Spider-Man film and has yet to succeed. Just as important, he doesn't seem to understand Peter Parker as a character. Yes, he has had to deal with some meddling, but so have many directors that have managed to find success. Maybe it is a reasonable excuse for the first film which required him to spend a large portion of the film with an unnecessary and ill-advised retelling of the origin. But that wasn't the case with the sequel, which was considerably worse. There is no excuse for that. He's had his chance.

If I was running Sony Pictures, I would can the terrible Sinister Six Movie idea (if it hasn't been already), and move Drew Goddard over TASM3 with the Sinister Six as the villains.

People say that the Gwen/Peter stuff was what Webb was good at, but IMO the Gwen/Peter stuff sucked. The webslinging visuals in ASM2 were ****ing amazing though. but still, Marc Webb doesn't bring anything to the table that another director couldn't. I'm all for a new vision being brought to this franchise.

The problem is the writing though IMO. For ASM3, they should probably ditch the writers and Webb.

but with a good script, Webb could probably turn in a good movie..

Yeah, I didn't mean to say Webb is soley to blame here. Webb, the writers, Arad, they all need to go. Time to clean house. The only ones I would keep are the actors.

I couldn't agree more

I would let him stay. Marc Webb has some great ideas and his uncut versions proved it. Before the release if the film Webb got alot of hate since he was new. And with how news have been lately ever since the release hopefully Webb will get full control with the sequel along with talented writers like drew Goddard and Vince Gilligan

@Rorschach

Oh, yes.

If ASM3 is given a proper ****ing script. Damn, is there potential.

Won't be getting my hopes up too high, though.

Just arad and kurtzman. Webb can stay. Webb can also work with Goddard on the third spiderman film

It doesn't seem like Webb is really the problem but I could be wrong. It's more the producers and writers faults

Marc Webb is as much to blame as the rest. He's the director, and we have no reason to believe he has no creative say on these movies. The mishandling of Spider-Man and the other characters is as much his fault as Sony's. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was even worse than the first one, and I think Webb probably had more creative influence on the sequel since the first one was a reasonable financial success.

None of them have a clue about Spider-Man's character.

Webb seemed to have a clue on the first two. Actually Raimi's last film was actually a really big mess as well. So neither of the two were to blame.

Unless you know for a fact that Mr. Webb didn't have creative control then it's not the same. Stop trying to turn threads into Raimi discussions.

Well it's just that whenever there's a discussion on the Webb films people are always gonna compare and I know they do and it really has been getting me paranoid about this-_-

If Webb was given a truly great script and minimal to zero studio intervention, then yes, I wouldn't mind seeing him back. Even with all the flaws present, I still enjoyed ASM2.

However, I could care less if they fired him or not. I just want a great Spidey film again and I'm having less and less faith in Webb's 'vision' for this series. Maybe a new director and a new creative team is what's needed to make that happen. I'm torn on this and not sure what to think but either way, currently Webb is signed on for the 3rd film so let's hope they get some solid writers to write or revise what Orci and Kurtzman have laid out, assuming they have already.

I think with the TASM-movies, people like to blame Webb, but if you're gonna blame anyone, blame Kurtzman/Orci, two of the most talentless writers in Hollywood.

I like the guy so I think he should stay for ASM3. Let him finish his trilogy.

Yeah, Webb had some great ideas even ones that reflect my outside life. So I really hope he does well without any interference from Sony and arad and tomach or anyone who's producing it

I want a different director but how much would that really matter if Sony continues it's heavy meddling?
