The Mars Volta?

anyone know anything about them and what are some of the better albums to listen to? i've heard great things about them.

i discovered TMV, this past year, and they are great. i love stuff from all their albums, but their first two albums are arguably the best. do check out those.

I only have one album by them, Frances the Mute, and it's very, very good. Definitely check it out.

I got into them fairly late, because I wasnt a huge fan of the band that led to The Mars Volta (At The Drive-In).

I walked into a Hot Topic of all places and heard The Widow off of TMVs Frances The Mute cd and fell in love. That album is AMAZING, without a dubt one of my favorite albums ever. However, you have to be aware that this is not your normal listening experience. There are huge blocks of time on the cd that are just background noise...people talking, cars driving by, random noises. To me though, if youre in the right mindset, you fall into the world that cd creates.

You know how I know those guys are amazing? I dislike everything about their music...half the lyrics are in spanish, long solos that go nowhere, garage rock post punk noise, artsy prog noodling around...and I still absolutely love every minute of it!!!

Oh..and their bassist was in 80's metal band Racer X, so thats a bonus.

Deloused is amazing. Take the Veil Cerpin Taxt is one of my all time favorite songs, the bass line in it is so good. Bedlam is awesome as well. From start to finish it is an amazing record. Frances the Mute is a classic, but there is a ton of just ambient noise on it. Plus you have to listen to it with the song Frances the Mute. Tremulant was their first recordings, and it shows, it only has 3 songs, but they are decent enough. Amputechture, I never really knew why I didn't like it I just don't. I mean, its not bad, it's just not my favorite. Scabdates is a worthless live album. I can listen to any band live except Mars Volta. Or maybe its the screaming baby for 2 minutes they decided to start it off with that makes me hate it.

Anywho, yeah, Mars Volta rocks. so did At The Drive In, if you like punk.

The Mars Volta are awesome! I seen them live a few years ago, awesome awesome set. It seemed like everyone was on some sort of psychotropic drug though.
