Thought this thread was needed for some reason, don't ask me why :o

1. Captain America (FOREVER!!)
2. Thor
3. Hulk
4. Iron Man
5. Daredevil
6. Spider-Man

....Who else? :ninja:

Cyclops
Storm
Fantastic Four (main roster)

True A-Listers
1. Spider-Man - Spider-Man is an obvious. He currently has 6 ongoings (Amazing Spider-Man, Spectacular Spider-Man, Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, Spider-Man Family, Marvel Adventures Spider-Man, Spider-Man Loves Mary-Jane, and Ultimate Spider-Man). 3 highly successful and critically acclaimed movies. Numerous cartoon series and video games. He's one of Marvel's most franchised characters

2. The X-Men - Primarily Cyclops, Jean Grey, Wolverine, Storm, Beast and Professor X. To a lesser extant Iceman, Angel, Rogue, Nightcrawler, Gambit, Jubilee, Shadowcat, and Colossus (the ones who starred in the movies and cartoon shows). Again multiple ongoings, 10 to be precise (Uncanny X-Men, X-Men, Astonishing X-Men, New Excalibur, Exiles, Wolverine, Wolverine Origns, Cable & Deadpool, New X-Men and Ultimate X-Men). Had a few cartoons like Spider-Man (though not nearly as many). Have 3 successful movies. Again, highly franchised

3. The Hulk - Well known because of a 1970's TV show and a mixed success movie. Also had a few cartoon shows and another movie on the way. Two ongoings (Incredible Hulk and Marvel Adventures Hulk).

4. The Fantastic Four - Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman, the Human Torch, and the Thing. Marvel's first modern superhero team. Had a financially successful movie with a sequel on the way. A few animated series. Three ongoings (Fantastic Four, Marvel Adventures Fantastic Four, and Ultimate Fantastic Four).

5. The Punisher - A moderately successful movie and maybe a sequel on the way. Two ongoings (Punisher and Punisher: War Journal). His position in the popularity chain has peaked and is declining for Marvel's bigger heroes.

5. Captain America - Marvel's major superhero. Their Superman. Huge during the Golden Age and still big today. Movie on the way. Death made some major headlines.

6. Iron Man - Playing a major role in the Marvel universe. Has a movie on the way that WILL be huge. Had one animated series and a DTV movie. Two ongoings (Invincible Iron Man and Marvel Adventures Iron Man).

7. Daredevil - A mixed success movie and a critically acclaimed series. At least most people know who he is

8. Thor - The least known of the A-listers. A movie is on the way. That's all that Thor really has for him, he currently doesn't even have an ongoing. Most people think of the Norse god and not the comic book character, hopefully the movie will change that.

Other A-Listers (Those who are A-List only in the comics)
Ms. Marvel - leader of the Avengers
Luke Cage - leader of the unsanctioned Avengers
Black Panther - King of Wakanda
Yellowjacket - founding Avenger
Wasp - founding Avenger
Namor the Sub-Mariner - Regent of Atlantis, the first mutant.
Dr. Strange - Sorcerer Supreme
Black Bolt - leader of the Inhumans
Silver Surfer - wielder of the Power Cosmic and herald of Galactus, has the potential to join the true A-Listers

Wolverine
Captain America
Spider-Man
Venom
Dr.Doom
Hulk

I forgot to say that these aren't in any order

Agreed 100%. (incidentally; Marvel's first superhero was the original Human Torch)

I've acually been thinking about this lately and I'm thinking of compiling the info and then publisinh it on a website.

What makes an A list hero? Seroiusly.

I think a hero that has a long ongoing serious title with out a break. A hero that has been succesfully featured in other media. ie Cartoons, Movies, Live Action TV. A hero whose back story has survived mainly intacked for thier duration.

Of course then when ou start breaking it down you have to look at individuals vs teams and what not.

But going on that critera the Marvel A-List:
Fantastic Four
Spider-Man
X-Men
DareDevil
Iron Man

I deintly think there are other criteria to consider and sub rankings Such as Spidey may come out as an A+ list character and somone like Cap would be an A-. Because Cap has had his series constantly stopped and brought back.

I think if you ask people who is an A lister they'll all give different answers so we need a non bias ranking system.

Okay, anyone who doesn't have Spidey at the top of their list is biased. Spidey is the most recognized Marvel character period. He's the flagship character, his face used to appear on the cover of every single comic that went to direct sales. Putting Spidey at the bottom of the list is like putting Superman at the bottom of a short list for DC.

You forgot Spider-Man loves Mary Jane. That makes six ongoings. :cwink:

Also, in talking about about the X-Men, you have to include Magneto, Gambit, Jubilee, Rogue, Nightcrawler, Colossus, Juggernaut and Beast, who's definitely a true A-lister. The reason being, is that because of the cartoons, video games and movies, those are the most recognizable X-Men. Kids who grew up not reading comics, could tell you all about Gambit and Rogue's unrequited love just from watching the cartoon.

I'd also include the Silver Surfer as an A-lister. Even people who have never picked up a comic book can recognize the Surfer. Couple that with the fact that his very name is being included in one of this year's biggest movies, and he's going to be even more of a household name than he already is.

What are you talking about biased? The guy said "Anyone else?" so we add other people who are A-listers who weren't on the first list.

DUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

wassnt it first Namor then Human torch?

Technically, no. While both appeared in the first issue of Marvel Comics #1, Torch got the cover, and the lead story, iirc.

However, Namor WAS created a few months earlier, in an 8 page movie theater giveaway that never saw publication...it was instead expanded by four more pages and included in Marvel Comics #1...

Pretty much I agree with you, except Wolverine should recieve his own spot at number 2 followed by the X-men. Wolverine has pretty much become a stand alone character who doesn't need the X-men to boast his success and or sales anymore.

I don't know, Telekinetic. I wouldn't count Quicksilver, Ant-Man, Wasp, Lockjaw, X-23, Black Widow, or Man-Thing as A-listers.
