'The Mask' Creator Has A Female Comedian In Mind For Possible Reboot

During our phone call, Richardson, who co-wrote and produced The Mask motion picture, told me that he is very interested in revisiting the cinematic IP. Moreover, he already knows who he wants to take on the central role if another movie in the series comes to pass.

"I’d like to see a really good physical comedian [in the role]," he said. "I have one in mind, but I’m not gonna say her name. We have to do a lot of convincing for this particular actor, but we’ll see ... You never know what’s coming in the future. We have some ideas."

Nope, nope, nope

They are kinda going overboard with the gender bending reboots. Granted I don't mind seeing more females in lead blockbuster roles but it's getting dangerously close to pandering.

The female comedian is either going to be Tiffany Haddish or Melissa McCarthy.

Can’t be any worse than Son of the Mask.

Though I’d like to see it as more sequel/reboot with Jim Carrey returning passing on the mask to someone else.

It's probably Kate McKinnon. I think she's best suited to pull of the kind of physical comedy this movie requires.

Zero faith in this (Carrey is one of a kind), but if it will give me a remaster of Mask '94 - go ahead.

lol, sure, why not? Let's ruin another one. :funny:

We've already had plenty of pandering here and there in recent times. Some times a solid decision is made for female viewers, examples being Captain Marvel and Wonder Woman but then you have other times where it's pandering big time.

I've never been attached to this character so I don't mind. Well so long as it's not Amy Schumer.

Leave it alone.

There aren’t even any comedians (male or female) that are funny enough to lace Jim Carrey’s boots these days.

You beat me to it. McKinnon is due for a film breakout, she's that talented, but I don't think this is it.

Was hoping a reboot would be more horror vibe to it. R rated show the real psychopathic nature of the mask.

Reboots of a really popular ip piss people off. You are saying the original doesn't exist. Just make it a sequel. Give carey a cameo. Then carry on the story.

What's going to happen is the film will get a lot of flack from people who don't want it. Whoever they get for the lead will get slated (because internet). Then the director or actress will hit back saying that people don't like it because they are sexist.

BREAKING NEWS: The owner of a property that was once valuable would like to make more money off of that property!

Isn't that really all this story is?

After Dumb and Dumber To, he can lace his own damn boots. :o

Carrey has/had a certain type of energy that was perfect for the character. Don't know who currently would work within the role... unless their version of the Mask is very different.

The female versions in the comics and cartoon were just as nuts. I don't even know who is as big a female comedian right now that Carrey was then.

This could work if they stuck to the original comic books, in those Ipkiss gets killed by his girlfriend and uses the mask, its ballsy so i doubt they would ever even think about doing that.

Tom Hardy seemed to confuse Venom with a reboot of The Mask, judging by his, uh, performance.

I'm all for this. I have always wanted something closer to the original comics and it would be cool to see this take that path of showing different people wearing it plus we also we get to hear all the tough boys whine and cry about women in films again and that's always a good time.
