The Matrix Resurrections

It's not the fault of the comic book movies. It's the corporate executives that are at fault.

Secondly, with The Matrix Resurrections, the audience reaction, critics included, has been fairly mixed. Let's also not forget they are picking up after sequels that audiences found to generally be fairly underwhelming. The franchise peaked and had its heyday 18 years ago.
It does make me wonder if there's even a future for this franchise at this point. I was thinking any future additions could go right to HBO Max, because let's face it, the Wachowskis are pretty much done with the series at this point. I highly doubt that will happen though either way.

What are the box office numbers looking like?

Also, what was the reason Neo never picked up a gun through the whole movie?

I wish Keanu would have cut his hair like it was in the original once he re-awakened. Obviously wasn't against it, he had a buzzed head in the real world scenes.

To be fair Neo never picks up a gun in the previous sequels either, unless you count the EMP in the scene with Revolutions with Bane. I always felt like he was above that once he ascended into his role as The One.

True. I didn't think about that. That makes sense. I just wish he used more powers than what we saw in the film. Felt like he just spammed the same move over and over.

All he did in the film was just that generic force push move lol.

And don't get me started on his attempt to fly off the ground and just ending up jumping. A terrible, cringe-worthy joke that doesn't have a place in a Matrix film.

The movie is awful by the franchise's own standards and it's also streaming on HBO, let's not pretend we are shocked that it isn't doing well at the box office. Even without No Way Home, this was never gonna be a hit.

So we watched it on the 23th...and i kind of like it.

Its written quite nicely, shot fine enough and well paced.
The story and characters i thought fit well with the story the movie told...nothing groundbreaking but also nothing utterly broken.

Two big problems i see however, are that it never felt as big as it should be.
This is matrix 4 and on all accounts it should have felt huge...but it didnt.
I got the feeling at times its a TV show budget Matrix, which maybe would have even been a better idea.
Because world building it could have needed more to get a feeling for the size and time that had gone by etc.
A limited TV show focusing on what happened between Matrix 3 and 4, would have helped on that front i think.

And the second one was that it lacked Style.
Especially noticeable in the action.
While the opening worked fine enough, later on the action while being fine for any other movie, never felt like we were in a Matrix movie.
Even with the effects etc, it felt more like a budget copy of it instead of a real movie from the franchise.
The Action would have been totally fine if it would have had that Matrix Style to it.

Outside of that, i found it to be fine enough.
Helped that i absolutely didnt knew what i can expect and therefore didnt set any expectations of what i want to see.

Dont know if i would like a sequel to it, it works fine as some kind of Epiloge.
But if they do a sequel, they need to get it at least visually right.

Its not a groundbreaker, but i also can not take anybody serious who claims the movie is trash, the worst, awful, cringeworthy etc...because i didnt saw a movie that fell apart enough to be any of that.

Didn't Neo give The Analyst all the codes within the matrix through making the video game about The Matrix? Isn't that how he prevented him from flying by changing codes? Idk. I could be way off lol.

Considering that the Machines started "growing" humans, did they start developing some weird cyber-sensory powers just by evolution?

Um no, it’s the fault of the moviegoers for not going to see see anything but franchise movies.

it would be a lie to claim Hollywood didn’t release middle budget fare this year. They released plenty. Examples like the Last Duel and West Side story.

they bombed.

hollywood is only reacting to shifting tastes. The bitter reality is that older goers have stopped going to see “prestige” fare in the movies and not for a lack of content. Only fanboys go to the movies now.

No idea why WB kept there release strategy for sams day release with this movie matrix deserved an exclusive theatrical release the reviews may have been an issue but it would have opened huge not Spiderman numbers but not as low as it looks now

I was eXpecting not to like this, but I thought it was entertaining. A rehash of the first film, without the style/intense action scenes but its serviceable. I don't like the film grading and the cinematography though.

This movie was ok, at-least the first hour or so but after that I just stopped caring which broke my heart because I still love the first 3. The only thingsI liked about this movie was

- being able to see the operator in the matrix talking to people while walking around
- using mirrors to enter and leave the matrix because let face it land line phones are nonexistent anymore
-the bugs character and the new morpheus fit in pretty well as types of characters we would have got from the last 3 movies.

thats really about it where it ends though, the rest is forgettable, laughable and lazy story ideas that go no where other then an excuse to “reboot” the matrix. How neo and trinity are still alive and barely aged 60 years later is so dumb. How jadda pinketts character is still alive but wont help neo right away and doesn't believe in him after everything that happened in the last 2 movies made zero sense. This guy brought 60 years of peace and you saw what he could do but yet you act like you never saw a thing

Oh my God I just learned what is considered the "woke moment" in this film:

Trinity pretty much getting her revenge on The Analyst. Come on people. :funny:

I was reading some comments on YouTube and other websites. (bad idea, I know) Certain people already assumed the movie was going to be "woke" because of Lana being trans. It was never really about the story or certain scenes. They were always going to call it "woke" no matter what.

I feel showing scenes from the superior original was a mistake they should have showed as a video game as they were suggesting probably would have been best its not like WB has a video game studio :whatever:

Seeing the original movie playing in the background just shows how awful this was ill eventually watch it again to see if its easier to stomach but can't be in a bad mood its Christmas eve after all lol

They could've used scenes from "Path of Neo".... The actual PS2/Xbox game of The Matrix trilogy. Just update the graphics a bit (I'm not counting "Enter The Matrix" because you don't get to play as Neo)

I've been seeing people assume it was one of the Wachowskis' daughter who did this film cause they had no clue Lana was Larry. :hehe:

100M is no longer blockbuster money either though.

It might be on the lower end but it still definitely is.

Keep in mind, Last Duel and West Side Story were holdovers from the buyout. They were not just casualties of the pandemic but the Disney buyout of 20th Century Fox. West Side Story itself finished principal production in 2019.

Also, Last Duel wouldn't be the first time Ridley Scott has failed with big budget period fare. Look at Gods of Egypt.

I found this mostly boring. I'm not he biggest fan of the franchise as only liked the first Matrix film and animematrix, I didn't care for the sequels. The fight choreography and cinematography felt poorer without the guys from the original films.

The French rogue programme from the sequels doing meta rants about culture commentary was entertaining.
