I'm a Street Fighter guy as well and that movie was cheesy as f**k. If you really want to see a good live action SF , check out Street Fighter: Assassins Fist. It's a web series and the first season was awesome. They're doing the World Warrior Tournament for season 2.

So much this!

I've seen most versions of the 3Ms except that one. I have a used DVD of it, but haven't gotten around to watching it yet.
Fair warning, it has that slow mo love some directors are strangely infatuated with.

I don't think there was ever much promise of anything shown in the first MK film. People make like it's even passable as a film but it's never even been a guilty pleasure for me.
Martial art moments are cool, Johnny Cage is funny, the effects are good for something from that time with the budget given to it, and soundtrack are still fun to listen to.
Beside that, keeping up with the games story showed some positive promise at least for the future of video game movies, something even that director did not keep.

Eh... It's just a bad film, not even a fun one. At least the SF flick is over the top bad but is cheesy fun. MK for me is just bland and bad. Frankly I've never seen the difference between MK1&2 that others do.
MK2 is such a mess, it's hilarious to make fun of.

Lots of characters come and go for no apparent reason, some characters are there with very flimsy explanation, Sonya needs to learn a lesson a second time, a big medical/robotics facility with a patient in it, but none of the staff from either security or doctors, worse effect with a bigger budget, plans that lead to nothing, villains suddenly pause their and let the main cast talk until they realize "Hey, the villains are right behind us", multiple chances for villains to destroy the heroes, but all wasted, the big bad powerful villain hits more than he gets hit but his enemy hits him a few times and wins like a boss, nonsensical plot devices that are of no value, a twist that is of no importance......

That movie is glorious crap.

Street Fighter has a number of memorable quotes, the cast is so much fun to watch in that film I never felt bored with it.

I read the comic adapting the movie and.. the lack of Raul Julia and Jean Claude Van-Damme, plus that sucky art made me realize how boring the script is in itself.

Maybe it's just me not being a gamer but I don't see any of that in either MK films. Bad acting, bad effects, bad dialog is all I see. The fights are very lackluster. And Cage is as far from funny as I can think. The only thing that gives the SF film any edge is it's SO over the top and cheesy you can laugh at it but it's really not much better for me. But as I said, I am not a gamer and have never been into the mythology of either franchise.

If you think this is lackluster, I think maybe more realistic fighting is more up your alley.
Liu Kang provided the best fights.

I liked the first Mortal Kombat movie....it was goofy fun, with some decent fights , crazy humor, and neat practical effects. The second movie was just off kilter....things didn't work and I'm not sure why. I never saw the old TV series....but my wife bought it for me last year, need to watch it sometime soon.

I like those movies, never knew there was a tv series tho. Looking Foreword to the new Hidden Dragon film.

That show is like the first movie, but most of the characters of that movie are taken out.

Mortal Kombat Conquest.

Old man what is wrong with you? The first MK film is cheesy fun. The second one is a abomination.

Gotta agree with Clippy on this one, I saw the first MK film at the movies & enjoyed it for what it was, a cheesy, martial arts/fighting, movie based on a video game. This, coming from a gamer who doesn't think much of fighting games. :cwink:

1998 series.....starred Jeffrey Meek as Rayden (he starred in a great but short series called RAVEN), Kristanna Loken (TERMINATOR 3), Daniel Bernhardt (THE MATRIX RELOADED) and Paolo Montalban.

As a person with some martial arts training that likes both wire work and gritty choreography equally... Meh. It's quite lackluster for myself. Like I said, I never enjoyed those films at all.

Hmmm Still tho the only Raven series I remember was from the Highlander tv series called "The Raven"
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Highlander:_The_Raven

You need to watch the good RAVEN series then http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103518/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1a

Jeffrey Meek played Johnathan Raven (the name he uses at the moment) an ex ninja, ex special forces, ex CIA operative who only wants to find his son and live in peace....fortunately for us viewers he doesn't find his kid but he does find lots of scantily clad babes (it takes place in Hawaii) being harassed by lots of guys who need their asses kicked.

Basic story....American kid (Raven) living in Japan sees his family slaughtered in front of him by Ninjas.....he trains in martial arts, manages to infiltrate the Ninja sect, get trained even more by them, and then in one night kill almost all of them in a bloody night of revenge. He then spends several years as a military special forces black ops/CIA agent who eventually gets fed up with all the dirty tricks and retires under new name in Hawaii. Helping a friend being harassed by the Yakuza, the surviving Ninjas find out he still lives and start sending people to kill him. In between these attacks he keeps running into other *******s who need their teeth kicked out....while lounging on the beaches of Honolulu....land of bikinis......

I remember that one from when I was in High School and working at a comic shop. Lee Majors was his buddy. Didn't last long.

I thought you were older than that (being in high school at that time).....yep. Lee was his buddy.....and I said in my first post mentioning it that it didn't last long....but longevity doesn't equate quality (FIREFLY is one of my favorite series).

Congrats! I like how it works at your place. Maybe if you hit your boss you'll get a big bonus.

Haha not sure if I want to test that theory. Really they gave me a raise because of how good I've been doing here. They want to bring in people under me and move me up in the company. Just so happened to have this conversation on a day I came in late. Super excited though, always nice when hard work is acknowledged and rewarded.

He's old (I think my kind of age) but not C. Lee old!

You must test it. How far away is your boss from you right now?

Cool, good luck with it.
