There are still a few days before the New Year officially dawns upon us. But the industry is in no mood to slow down. If you guys thought that 2007 was one of the biggest years, it would be a mere understatement, for 2008 shall bring us to our knees for it is the return of the prodigal son on his favorite console and this epic drama under the guise of an espionage game gets better and better each time we witness it in motion. (Drum Roll) and Snake slithers onto our television screens.

It seems absolutely impossible to notice that Microsoft is unfazed by Metal Gear Solid 4, the titan of all games released during the year on the PS3. Splinter Cell: Conviction might not be powerful enough to scratch our beloved Solid Snake, so Microsoft has decided to bring something as brilliant as the game on the 360.Word has it that the company is in collaboration with a highly talented studio that can give their Xbox 360 something way better than Snake.

According to sources, Microsoft executives saw a brief demo of the game and came back thoroughly impressed. The core gameplay mechanics has somewhat been finalized, but the studio is yet to decide on the gameplay perspective (first person Vs third person). The game is rumored to take place in the future and will incorporate major political events that have occurred in the last few years. The studio has managed to pull off visuals that were previously thought to be next to impossible on the Xbox 360 and is supposed to look better than any PS3 game that has been shown or is available on the platform exclusively till date.

Metal Gear loggerheads and fanatics are going to have an insanely twisted time with the game, says the source. Watch out for further announcements regarding this uber-title sometime in the middle of 2008.

Meh I doubt that this will be as good as Metal Gear or Splinter Cell, the two games that pretty much dominate the stealth genre, and the two games that are pretty much the only good ones too.

I doubt very much that Microsoft is sweating MGS4.

Splinter Cell killed Metal Gear years ago. Some people are just to stupid to call the time of death.

First you don´t like Bioware (one of the best developers out there), second you say that Splinter Cell killed Metal Gear...

WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU SMOKING?

Not only Bioware can ******* any developer out there, MG is alive and well (i´m not even that big of a Metal Gear fan).

Splinter Cell? Kill Metal Gear?

:lmao:

Sorry, but nfw.

MGS is one of the immortals. You can't...simply..."kill" it. :whatever:

The question is, how do you kill a game?
Even if Splinter Cell is better than Metal Gear (not saying that it is, or that is not), even the game being made is better than Metal Gear, you can´t simply kill it.
To kill a game is the same as to say that that game becames irrelevant.

Dude, it´s Metal Gear.......

Yes, there are certain video games where-in their quality transcends that of logic and reality. Some to the point where...even if there really IS a better game that comes along, nothing will ever be good enough to take its place, or "kill" it.

A few examples of this syndrome are Zelda, Resident Evil, and Metal Gear Solid. These are THE medieval RPG, survival horror, and stealth sneaker figureheads.

Besides, a big part of a game is the story.
Games are becaming more and more like movies (and that is becaming more important as we speak, that is the future of gaming, to be movies).
So, with that in mind, any game where the characters and story resonate, are IMPOSSIBLE to kill.
Is the same as to kill some great movie just because time went by and better movies came along.
It might not have the same effect, but the quality is still and will always be there.

Dedpool and Isildur's Heir pretty much said all that was needed to say :o

You all forgot the game that is the definition of transcending logic, and reality.

Final Fantasy.

If games like Metal Gear could be killed Splinter Cell would have been the one to do it. But Games like Metal Gear are the reason why the term Fanboy was created.

Games like Metal Gear can't be killed. It's right up there with the major game franchises that have a massive fanbase and it is still pretty much the figure head of the stealth genre because it practically invented the genre.

Now, I'm not knocking on Splinter Cell because it is a damn good game and deserves its place right next to Metal Gear, mostly because the gameplay between the games are completely different.

But Games like Metal Gear are the reason why the term Fanboy was created.
I'd disagree, stupid people are the reason why fanboys are created. Unfortunately we're all pretty much are :csad:

People don't seem to fully grasp what meytal gear is about and what its key strengths are. MGS being killed?? I dont think so. MGS2 was and is probably still the most hyped up game ever. These games primarily focus on story and cinematics, which to date is unmatched. The detail and research into things such as history and basic logistics of order and how things work, again are unmatched. The gameplay is fun, effective and works well. But unlike most games, the gameplay isn't the primary focus, the story is.

I don't know a single person who plays the splinter cell games for the stories or even cares, they just want to go about doing the stealth thing and get the mission done.

I find it laughable that it is being alluded to that, MGS4 and the games that came before it will be rendered insignificant by this new game that not only knows very little about what MGS4 will offer but also hasn't said much or backed up their comments. How many times has a game developer said this and that only for gamers to find out that the end result was a joke by comparrison.

Based on story of MGS, where its going and the gameplay that MGS4 offers, it'd be foolish to start declaring MGS defeated because, it just won't happen. Tthe series is not only a staple in its genre but also in the gaming community, period. When MGS4 comes out, I'll be watching just how many people wil start sucking off kojima as this will definitely happen.

Metal Gear Snake Eater was AMAZING. One of the best games I've ever played.

I love Splinter Cell, but the series is starting to get stale....Which is why I love this new direction for the series. Splinter Cell had no decent cinematics or story to get me actually start caring about what I was doing. I just played it for the Stealth....

But Metal Gear Snake eater was like a film!!!!!! The end cut-scene was beautiful...

Any guesses on which "highly talented" studio they are referring to?

They even made it into a full with Existence on MGS3S. I need to replay that game before MGS4 comes out

You people are out of your minds. Crash Bandicoot killed Mario years ago and who's even heard of Zelda since Onimusha?

I don't know about mario, but no one is interested in Zelda outside the fanboy perspective. its already been killed.

Crash could have been a good serious competitor to Mario if Vivendi didn't take direct control of the franchise and end up raping the franchise.

Vivendi ruins everything. :csad:

I know. I was a huge fan of the Crash and Spyro games when Sony, Naughty Dog, and Insomniac were in control of the them. But then Vivendi came in and ruined it all.

People complain how Sonic has had it bad for the past couple of years. Crash and Spyro got it even worse :csad:

There doesn't seem to be much news here. Microsoft is always looking at projects and has shown that they're only willing to work with the best developers out there.

The big story here is that a "source" is saying this is a Metal Gear killer, which really doesn't describe the game even marginally although the fact that the graphics are great does tell us that the studio isn't Bungie.
