Batman '89 The Michael Keaton Appreciation Thread

That's quite a stretch. Just because they have it doesn't mean they will. There's no market for it except for the past-franchise-lovin' fanboys. Which, I might add, is not a big enough market.

And besides, chances are the figures would suck anyway. Mattel is terrible at toymaking.
It's not a stretch. Mattel addressed it, and said there was a market for it. They plan on making them when the market isn't saturated with toys from current Batman movie lines. Just like the "Rocky" movie figures from Jakks. That has a REALLY small market. Batman appeals to everyone, even if they are figures based off previous franchises.

Mattel is just as good as anyone else in the figure game. If it means getting B89, Returns figures ... so be it. They won't be any worse than the Kenne joints from back in the day. Collectors aren't riding their jocks because they are focused on marketing the brand to kids. So adults like some of you get your panties in a bunch if your wet action figure dream isn't realize in plastic form. This isn't McFarlane. Mattel's stuff is cool if you're a kid at heart. You can find appreciation in alot of things.

Link from a trustable source? I highly doubt this.

Not totally untrue, but c'mon, they're known to have poor articulation (which they are just now getting over) and can have poor sculpts sometimes and poor paint-ops.

As somebody's who's really just going to have them on the shelf, I'd at least like to put them into a nice pose and have them look respectable.

So adults like some of you get your panties in a bunch if your wet action figure dream isn't realize in plastic form.

I'm not a nerdy adult who collects toys (not saying anybody here is...), so I don't care. But if I were to buy these, I would expect for them to be commendable. Just because it's a mass market toy doesn't mean it can't be fantastic. Even the old Kenner figure had Keaton's face down perfect.

I mean, c'mon. Would you really be happy with them if they just spray-painted a regular Batman figure black and labelled it as "Michael Keaton"? I expect a toy comapny - any toy company - to put some effort into it, which I don't see Mattel doing. They could easily just re-release current figures under a movie banner. If they're supposed to be from the old movies, I expect new molds. Kenner's Keaton figure always irked me in the fact that they just re-used the old mold from the Super Powers collection and gave it a new head, belt and boots. Didn't even factor in the actual look of the suit. And BR's Penguin was just the old Super Powers Penguin as well, just in black. Nothing like DeVito at all.

This isn't McFarlane.

I wouldn't want it to be. If I wanted what McFarlane could give, I'd put together one of those model kits of Michael Keaton.

That said, however, if these get made and get made right (I mean an effort put in), I'll buy whatever they make. I want a Christopher Reeve Superman, dammit!

I'm sure DC Direct could release, a West, Keaton, Kilmer, Clooney, Bale Batman series a set of proper Reeve and Routh Supermen. I'd say a Hugo Weaving V as well but they've already made one.

It's a double-edged sword, but I think the success or failure of a toyline rests in the manufacturer's willingness to give the fanbase what they want. A loyal fanbase will most often negate its size.

For instance, The McFarlane Movie Maniacs 7 Robocop figure was a surprise success. And even though there were concerns and complaints over the sculpt, there was a large enough fanbase that were willing to buy the figure. NECCA and Sideshow have great numbers when it comes to their horror figures (especially Friday The 13th) because they have a loyal fanbase who are willing to invest in the figures.

If you look the rest of the pics, it does have painted eyes on the face.

lol?

Not Keaton, but me trying to channel my inner-Keaton last Halloween:

Be checking out that mini-series, I think.

The Company. It starts next Sunday on TNT.

heh heh. "inner-Keaton". Thats funny.

Just saw The Last Time. Great movie, one of Keaton's best films and that was one of the greatest performances I've seen from the man and for the life of me, I can't understand why the Academy continues to ignore him.
And The Last Time also reminds us (if we ever needed) why Keaton IS Batman. He is really bad ass in this movie.
Several classic moments during the movie, including Keaton telling almost every co-worker to f*** off or f*** you, telling the guy who asks for directions to "blow me" and especially when his collegue tries to put down Keaton, and he almost gives him the Batman look and the guy practically sh** in his pants...lol
Those scenes show why the that "small" guy imposes more respect as Batman than the others that may "look" the part.
(that reminded me of the scene from Game 6 where Keaton jumps those 2 big muscular guys in the bathroom even though they're so big and he's outnumbered or the deleted scene from Herbie where Dillon is dissing him and you can see in his eyes he's seconds away from kicking the crap out of him... He's a badass !)
And how about the cojones to make love with his friend's wife while his friend is in bed unconscious from all the booze he drank !

Like so many have recognized, there's a scary quality about those eyes. Bob Kane said that Batman could 'be any Tom, Dick, or Harry.' So you know what? Keaton's a tough guy. He is average height, but he's not like a midget or something.

There's more than enough man there for someone to be on guard once he gives them that look.

That is really what Batman's presence is all about. He is a human like you, but he's more experienced, more knowing, wiser, and can hold his ground proficiently when pitted against seemingly unbeatable opponents. When I see Keaton acting in any of his movies, I come to know that a man really can give off that Batman essence. Just in his behavior, and all the subtleties going along with it.

Found some great pics on Google

I'll never stop using Multiplicity as a prime example of Michael Keaton being a versatile actor.

In the same movie, he played different versions of his character Doug. Teenaged/Irreverent > Feminine/Nurturing > Childlike/Mentally Deficient

Multiplicity was great, Keaton played all the characters
