The Miscasting of female comic characters

Famke Janssen as Jean Grey was really good, imo.
Well, okay that one worked out pretty well.

I think Jennifer Garner was cast as Elektra simply because at the time "Alias" was one of the hottest shows on TV and the filmmakers figured casting her, based on the popularity of "Alias", would bring in more viewers based on name recognition, her devoted fan following, etc. But watching Garner sleepwalk through the role (while looking nothing like Elektra) was not pleasant.

Alias was always a cult hit. It wasnt hugely popular.

My bad.

Still, Garner was somewhat famous and I do think the producers and directors of both DD and the Elektra spin off were counting on that.

Yeah, her name was definitely out there and I'm sure that influenced their decision.

Well, to be fair, Garner did try, learning some of the skills needed for the character. It's not her fault that she wound up in over her head and was thus ultimately unsuitable for the role. If anything, the director is to blame since in theory, Garner is indeed capable of pulling off a decent Elektra under proper guidance and direction.

Just because she wasn't the Southern T&A that Rogue became in the 90s (possibly earlier, not sure) doesn't mean she wasn't a good Rogue.
I'm not saying it's the only thing that makes Rogue be Rogue, but isn't that the great thing about her, that she truely is the fobridden fruit. That she has so many men ready and willing to stroke, kiss, caress every part of her body and yet she can't let them. She has all she wants thrown at her but can't take any of it.

Anna Paquin... not so much.

Definitely not so much.

Well, who are the most well known female superheroes that the mainstream knows?

Wonder Woman, Catwoman, who is more of an anti-hero, possibly Storm due to the X-movies, and that's about it. No one that's not a comic fan could honestly name off the rest that we all know by heart. And that is a problem when bringing them to the screen, they get treated shabbily because of no name recognition.

Katie Holmes, Anna Paquin, Kirsten Dunst, Kate Bosworth, Halle Berry/CW, I disliked them all.

Jennifer Garner as Elektra, Halle Berry as Storm, Howard as Gwen Stacy, those were decent choices IMO.

not really

Actually, the X-girls (especially Jean Grey, Storm and Rogue and maybe Shadowcat thanks to Evo?) can be considered fairly famous thanks to the numerous cartoon series exposing them to mainstream telly watchers. However, I will agree that few (if any) female comic characters are strong enough to carry a stand-alone movie.

Now if they decide to a movie focusing on some Marvel/DC heroines like the comics do once in a while, that may work, so long as it doesn't come off Charlie's Angels like.

I'd say that Batgirl and Supergirl are well known, but only because of their links to Batman and Superman.

no pilot was shot, just some photos taken of Brigette in the get-up.
Oh, okay, I guess I remembered wrong. But that was the pic!

Anyway, I've also forgotten Eartha Kitt and Lee Meriwether were miscast as Catwoman. Sure eartha could do the purring but she was mostly annoying and Lee was just boring. Julie Newmar rocked and no one can deny it. Then there was Leah Thompson as Beverly Switzer, a petite small breasted woman playing a buxom blonde in an already horrible movie.

Rogue more or less took on the Jubilee/Shadowcat role.

This is just no the case.
The Rogue we got was nothing like any X-men female to whiny to be either Shadowcat or Jubilee really just nothing like any female in the X-men comic's or cartoons.
She is another Singer special kinda like a 5 foot tall Storm in Berry Or a Cyclops shorter than either Jean or Storm a 6 foot+ Wolverine etc etc etc.

While the actors in some of these roles nailed the parts they are all horribly mis-cast.

When fan boys ***** about the height of a character I laugh myself to tears.

^Though the only instance I would agree is with Wolverine, as his 5'3 stance is what makes him unique in that most taller guys are scared to death of his ass. It's a funny contrast.

There's a strange mentality in comic fans that always dislike the female characters in movies. I don't think that one female character has gotten almost universal approval like Bale or Jackman has in their respective roles. Is it writing or something else. I usually like the female cast. Katie Holmes wasn't bad, just not on Bale or Caine level. Garner had great chemistry with Affleck and Berry was much better in X2. It's not a Storm movie so her showing strength of character was all i needed. I'm just easy to please I guess.:woot:

Bryce Dallas Howard as Gwen Stacy was just scary! Anna Paquin as Rogue?
Jennifer Garner as Elektra still gives me nausea, and H B as Catwoman

Yes because 99% of Wolverines ATTITUDE is because he is a RUNT and not exactly a handsome man, yeh it makes a difference sorry if you cannot understand that perhaps you should re-read the character and understand why he has an attitude because being a RUNT and not exactly a hollywood leading man is one of the main reason, and as well as Jackman did the attitude it was not justified and was just wrong.
What does a 6+ foot good looking guy like Jackman have an attitude for???????????????
I laugh at people like you who make posts about characters they obviously have no fracking clue about kkthnx.

99% percent of Wolverine's attitude doesn't stem from the fact that he is average looking and short. He doesn't go on berzerker rages because he's mad about his height.

...and yes, Rogue has always been that whiny. She just had more spitfire to go along with it.

She also had a great body to go with the spitfire. Anna Pacquin, not so much. Cute girl, but nowhere near as robust as Rogue is/was drawn in the comics.

ummm....are we forgetting someone?
