Homecoming The most likely outcome?

If you had to guess, what do you think will happen?

  • Sony will keep the rights and press on with S6, ASM 3, and other spin-offs

  • Sony will keep the rights and reboot the franchise

  • Sony will cut a deal with Marvel and let them reboot the character w a clean slate

  • Sony will cut a deal with Marvel and let them use Andrew Garfield in their upcoming films

They were in trouble before the hack. They're straight up ****ed now.

With the new email leaks detailing MCU spidey talks AFTER the initial collapse in discussions, it gets increasingly more likely that spidey in the MCU might actually be happening.

Think about it, if Sony are talking to marvel in October, that means Marvel must have been planning earlier than that, perhaps even a month or two after TASM2 released. We might be seeing MCU spidey way earlier than we think, possibly in early 2017 or even 2016

If I had to put a dollar on it, my bet would be April 2017. Neither Disney nor Sony has a planned release for that month yet, and TWS made a killing this past April.

If they do that, 2017 will be ridiculous for CBMs, so far

March- Wolverine 3
April- Spiderman (putting it here just to show)
May- GoTG2
June- Wonder Woman
July- Thor Ragnarock (also FF2 :whatever:)
November- Black Panther/Justice League Part One

I wish those last two were separated a bit more.

It would actually be a slight reduction from Sony's previous plan. They were seriously considering doing two Spidey spin off films in 2017 at one point, a Venom film and a female team up film.

You did forget Lego Batman, though. Yep, 2017's busy. (FF2 ain't happening, though. I'd bet as many as two of my dollars on that one)

What's with the :whatever: for FF2? It's a legitimate comic book movie. :o :oldrazz:

I think the 1st (s)olo film will take the Sinister Six slot, which is why there is no year given when he talks about it.

I don't think Disney would be okay with releasing an MCU film one week after another MCU film. Unless Doctor Strange can move back to it's previous July date I'm not sure that would work out.

If only these decisions could've been made sooner so they could stick spidey in that July 2016 slot

Time goes by quickly though. 2014 came and went at the speed of light. Three years is nothing.

I'm still thinking Sony will just keep spiderman and push on. I would love it if they made a deal but I don't think they will. I'm thinking we're going start hearing more about sinister six after this so called "Spidey Summit".

That would pretty much sink Sony's film division. We've seen nearly universal hope that they work something out with Marvel. They have a negligible amount of support to continue the old plan. Anybody currently signed to the project (Goddard, for example) could potentially even leave, citing the hack as grounds to break any previous contract due to a lack of confidence in Sony. One of their top executives even acknowledged that if they don't make a deal they're running out of options.

Why didn't the Guardians of Peace call themselves the Sinister Six instead? That would've killed any chance of such a movie being made because of the negative association.

Now I wonder if people will think of Guardians of the Galaxy when they hear the name Guardians of Peace.

I don't recall this one. Could I possible get a link?

I can't recall when the "running out of options" e-mail was and my searching has only led me to articles summarizing the situation (they reference the quote but don't have it in full). Here's a bit from Pascal though (just posting the quote instead of linking to CBM).

Head of Sony Picture's Amy Pascal expresses her lack of confidence for the spin off claiming: "I'm not sure Sinister Six is the way to go without its own [Marvel] Universe".

Ah. Thank you. This is good news indeed.

Sinister Six was always a dumb idea. I'm not sure why Pascal ever agreed to it if she didn't have confidence in it.

Almost every idea Sony has had lately is stupid. The leak confirmed that the next Jump Street might be a Men In Black reboot as well, and that Aunt May movie was really in consideration. Sinister Six almost sounds reasonable compared to that.

Though Black Suit Spider-Man as a Sinister Six member that inadvertently creates Venom after the other members tease him for his costume is pretty stupid.

S6: Nice costume, nerd

Spidey: I'll show them

Pretty much. Courtesy of a site I can't link:

He would rather introduce Venom in the Sinister Six film. And that film will feature Spidey teaming up with the Sinister Six to take down an even bigger threat. Who could be more dangerous than the Sinister Six? Tolmach would like the main villain to be either Carnage or Venom. If it is the latter, Spider-Man will wear his black suit in the film. He'll remove it when he can't handle being teased about the look by members of the Sinister Six. I kid you not. And of course, whoever finds Spidey's discarded suit will then become ... VENOM!

I bet Goddard's left the project by now, no one's safe from meddling. The lineup was supposed to be Goblin/Ock/Vulture/Mysterio/Kraven/Rhino. Venom was never mentioned, thus erasing whatever faith I had in this movie. Bullet dodged.

Sony couldn't even figure out what the line up was going to be throughout the production of ASM2, all the way up until just before the release. Rhino wasn't part of the tease when they filmed it. The Rhino mech in the SS setup was CGed over a tank full of Venom Symbiote that can still be seen in at least one behind the scenes feature. It's kinda obvious that the mech wasn't supposed to be there, too. The Ock tentacles and Vulture wings were very sleek and high tech. The Rhino mech was ugly, looked like it had been thrown together by a shop student, and was covered in Russian (apparently Ivan the mentally challenged machinist works part time at Oscorp ) Rhino was just supposed to close the film. Norman Osborn's head in a jar was also part of the tease at one time. You know, everybody's favorite Sinister Six member. I like to think Sinister Six would have had Harry Goblin carrying the head around while it cracked wise, like Headpool.

Headpool lmfao. God, I had faith in S6 with Goddard at the helm. I was so wrong.

They also reported that comments from Andrew Gumpert from Columbia Pictures suggest he is in favor of Marvel's plan & that he feels it will benefit Sony, while they feel other comments from Amy Pascal appear to suggest she is more interested in holding off on Spider-man solo films until after Avengers 3 & 4.
