The Natural Disasters Around the World Thread

Now we gotta say stay safe Puerto Rico and people on the east coast tonight.

There probably, sad to say, should be a dedicated thread to natural disasters.

I hope PR is spared too much damage but the Gov. warning is not inspiring hope that will be so.

With all that's going on I'm surprised this thread hadn't come back till now.

More than 225 people have died as a result of Mexico's earthquake. :csad:

Death toll in mexico might rise over 500, there are many people trapped in smaller towns (while all the effort is focused on the city) and accountability of the victims is a mess at the moment.

500? I had no idea it was so high. :waa:

This is just awful.:csad:

I'd rather deal with hurricanes than earthquakes. At least hurricanes you can see coming so you have time to bunker down or flee (usually, there is the rare one that strengthens really quickly like Harvey).

Mark my words... We have no idea how this season of natural disasters we are in is going to end up affecting the U.S. in the near and distant future. The Earthquake that hit Mexico City in the 80's led to big changes in their government. Here, think about the massive population shift that is likely to happen. Tons of Puerto Ricans, who are American citizens, will probably relocate to the U.S. mainland. Same for so many in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Even non-citizens will also make their way to the U.S. in some numbers.

Hurricane Nate is on the warpath, stay safe down there in the Southeast.

The whole North sf bay area is on fire right now. I have a pretty good view of everything going on. Be safe everyone

Yeah that is crazy. Definitely watch it.

Can Napa recover if all the vineyards burn down? :(

Damn, these things are relentless. How many major ones have there been this year. Is this year worse than normal?

It gets worse every year. This is the first I've ever heard of Napa Valley burning. :( I recall Schwarzenegger saying they used to have a fire season, now it's more like year round, just different areas.

Oh right, not good. Sorry for all you folks affected.

Global warming at its finest. :(
