And yet it hasn't made American news. This is the first I've heard of it. :(

CNN is saying at least 100 people are missing now in the California fires. :(

I drove through this and narrowly missed the tornado that hit the West Rand

That must have been scary. :(

To be completely honest it’s such an abnormal thing here (like once every two or three decades) I didn’t even pay attention to the possibility, I thought it was just a really bad thunderstorm with bad hail. Only when I got home and looked at Twitter about fifteen minutes later did I realize I drove past the shopping center that had some of its roof torn off.

It’s such a foreign concept that some news outlets still refuse to say it was a tornado until “further investigation has been done”

Maybe they just don't want to have to retract it later, though I don't know how you investigate that. Radar recordings? Wait for video?

If it's doing that to the shopping centre roof I guess it would be doing serious damage to regular houses. :csad:

The whole North sf bay area is on fire right now. I have a pretty good view of everything going on. Be safe everyone

Pretty much every place I hung out at and wreaked havoc in during high school burned down yesterday. Just everything, high school, first job, dog's kennel, favorite burger place, favorite field trip, friends' houses we'd go to after school, uncle's old house, just everything.

The worst was, it wasn't just one place, the fires were everywhere, Santa Rosa, Sonoma, Glen Ellen. Still burning

That's awful. :( My dad used to live in Martinez and he drove us around all the areas and it was such nice country.

Damn, my mom sent me a message early this morning saying her sister in laws house collapsed this morning.

Yeah, I think that's their approach right now.

Yeah, some people's cars were completely flipped and their steel parking covers mangled.

Geez, that must've been in one of the heaviest hit areas. It seems like there were some serious flare ups all over Joburg with quite a few areas heavily affected. The flooding in KZN is insane though.

Wow... That is terrible. I am in Vallejo and areas 3 miles away are being evacuated, the air is terrible here and ash is everywhere. It is really hard to go to work and not knowing if I'm making it home when I get off

My heart and prayers go out to you and the people there. Hope everyone stays okay.

I hope you're ok, James! I saw more evacuations in Solano, probably close to you, and more than 500 people missing still (hello? major news media anywhere?)

I sure feel for everyone in all of these disasters. It sucks when the planet is out to get you :(

Why is the media so disinterested in this kind of thing?

CNN has some stuff on it on their site and talked about it on live tv today.

I bet if 500 people were reported missing in New York City.... but it's good to hear there is some coverage, thank you!

Yeah they mentioned how in several instances dogs alerted their owners by barking and they all just got out in time. Man's best friend! :D
