The New Ghostbusters - Part 7

This is why I think even if it was just Ray or Winston showing up to pass the torch there would be some credibility to audiences and they could just move on with new characters and storylines. Completely replacing them and trying to say these are the only Ghostbusters while constantly winking and reminding the audiences of the original is just gonna make them go "the original was better", or "why was this necessary".

Right now the more over the top humor and brightly colored aesthetic tone in the trailer is making this look a bit like a spoof of the original.

I just read the reddit review, and wow, that sounds horrible.

Who was the person who's seen it here? Is that reddit review legit?

how does anything coming out of reddit even considered valid or worth a mention?

reddit is the National Enquirer of the internet

He claims it matches up, but they may have seen slightly different cuts due to the amount of FX that was finished. Bluejake enjoyed the film, though.

Always remember, though, and this is from me, that Feig does A LOT of screen tests and uses alternate takes of jokes and cuts to see what really works for audiences and what really doesn't.

The plot details line up perfectly with the version I saw. I enjoyed it. It has flaws, but most movies do. I really thought Wiig's character was her worst in a long time. McKinnon is awesome though. I also liked Chris Hemsworth, even as dumb as Kevin is, he is entertaining.

That person mentioned yesterday it was legit, and whilst I can't in good conscious just 100% believe a random person there's no real logical reason for someone to go around saying they have seen the movie other than for attention, but I don't feel this person is doing that in this case.

I wouldn't have believed him...if this were 6 months ago. And didn't post his linkdin profile. He seems to be an upset employee over there that watched it. His version matches up with bluejake's screening, only difference is that the reddit guy didn't like it but bluejake did. There's no reason for us not to believe it at this point other than they're people we don't know personally.

I debated a lot about discussing what I have. I waited until the trailer dropped because I felt like it was safe to discuss what I saw in relation to what they showed in the trailer. I was informed by someone else on this board that saw a test screening and remembered the NDA we signed better than I did, that I probably did violate it. I doubt they can do much other than ask me to shut up. I did not publicly post spoilers though, and I think Sony legal has bigger fish to fry right now.

An upset employee? Like someone who might be doing this to spite the movie? Doesn't negate the details, but certainly would affect his slant.

I wish I could read it and form an opinion, but I'd rather see this in the theaters and not experience it in an angry review.

Sounds like one or those stupid movies that some guys almost made, but thankfully someone said stop. Like the Jack Black Green Lantern movie, or the Catwoman spinoff.

Can I ask, is this how you feel cause it's Ghostbusters, or in any situation like this with a franchise?

Cause I remember when Doctor Who came back and they made a very conscious effort to not show or name the previous versions for quite a while even though it was a continuation and the series was better for it.

The Doctor just showed up and they expected you to watch and care about the character without a crutch.

Not every franchise needs a "passing of the torch" type of scene. It can be nice, but sometimes it's overdone to all hell.

That's how I feel. I'm not inherently against them, but I've been burned too many times by Hollywood thinking fanservice moments = a good understanding of the character.

If/when they ever get around to BTTF, I don't need to see Doc or Marty. Nothing in one movie will tell me anything new about how much they care about each other I didn't get from the first trilogy.

The thing that bothers me about this GB now is that if this really is just the first movie redux, what the heck was Feig's pitch that got this greenlit? Just having female comedians? They might as well have just gone with Pratt/Tatum's version.

Well, there was certainly no bias in that review. And so well written, too...

Ok, so let me ask you, did you find the trailer to be funny? Did those jokes work for you? And is that the type of humor that we'll see throughout the movie?

I know comedy is highly subjective, so I'm just trying to figure this out.

Did they go out of their way to confirm it wasn't connected or just didn't mention it? It is connected to Classic Who so I'm not sure what your debating here.

With properties like Ghostsbutsers or Back To The Future the characters themselves are engraved into the franchise. Take them away and audiences are gonna wonder why and be skeptical. You don't make a Fantastic Four film and cut out Reed, Sue, Ben and Johnny. Stupid right? Well BTTF and Ghostsbuters have had the same kind of fanbase as your average comic book/movie properties. If not more depending on the comparison. People still buy merch and read comics because of these characters. The majority does not want them gone. Adding to a franchise is much different then erasing loved characters. Tends to piss people off. You think Ghostsbuters is getting hate? Take the Doc out of BTTF. The whole series is based upon his inventions. Luckily that will never happen with Zemeckis being completely against anyone ****ing with that franchise.

Ghostsbuters is taking a huge risk by saying Ray, Egon and Peter did not create the Ghostsbuters. That's not an easy thing for longtime or even new fans to accept. These brand new characters have to be really good. And right now they did not make a good first impression.

I think they used one of the weakest scenes with the possession part. Wiig was struggling to find her footing and fluctuated between awkwardly geeky and trying to be taken seriously, and awkwardly oversexed and wanting to climb on Hemsworth. McCarthy was actually subdued compared to other things. I enjoyed Jones, but that scene was not her best showing. Kate McKinnon is funny, flirty, kinda pansexual and very gender fluid. She is like a mad scientist with an easy going, witty, irreverent thing going on. I loved her, but then again I've loved her since she was on The Big Gay Sketch show. The villain could have been great, and the concept is great, but the character himself just never hooked me. I know he is supposed to be socially awkward and creepy, but I wasn't feeling it. Maybe a better actor could have made me like the character. Steve Buscemi maybe.

So I read some of the outline and it didn't scream bad. Can't measure the humor because he simply called them ******. Cleared that right up for me! He says he doesn't like how he's treated by work and seems to be spiteful in releasing this fine review. Details might be correct, but their seems to be a bit of an agenda with his comments. Hard to judge a film like this without seeing the jokes.

The thing is with Doctor Who, it was a direct continuation of the franchise. It wasn't a full-on reboot. The series lent itself to that because of the regenerations for The Doctor.

Cool, that's what I thought. I've seen a ton of crossover references, classic villains and storylines from old who continued. Wasn't too sure what's to debate there.

Looking at the Reddit thing, shouldn't that guy be fired if they figure out who he is? I'm not going to rat him out or anything, but as part of his job he probably signed NDAs and should use discretion about this.

Just saying, trying to be cool so other people on the internet will think you are cool by being this whistle blower isn't necessarily "right" or "legal."

If he violated signed agreements for his work to leak this information, he could be prosecuted or terminated from his position if they find out who he is.

That is ONLY if the Reddit posting is legit.

which I don't think it is, I dont think anyone claiming to have seen a rough cut or anything is true in any way

people WANT this movie to fail in the worst way

it might be one of the first blockbuster releases to be openly sabotaged
