The New Ghostbusters - Part 8

I really don't understand the hate for this? The trailers show a fun and good lucking movie. In no way can this be worst than Ghostbusters 2.

What is so bad about it? Is it because it's a woman cast?

Because the jokes are at the level of a 5 year old? A fat black woman shouting and falling over is funny?

There's a rumor going around

That the ending "Patty listening to an audio tape and asks the girls who is 'Zuul'" scene has been updated, now she hears the original GBs interviewing Dana.

Not sure if there's any truth to it, but that's the latest.

After saying all along that the first Ghostbusters never happened in this version, they can't go back and say, oh wait, it DID happen after all, and here's a reference to it. The audience would then spend the rest of the movie wondering why nothing else from the first movie is used and what happened to the first Ghostbusters.

sony, just dont

That 'quoting' made me sound like an idiot and was not at all what I said. I basically said I want to laugh, see some good action, and have fun. As the post above said, to experience what blockbusters were made for in the first place. What I was saying is that I want to enjoy it and to enjoy it means it's more than ok.

Didn't mean to make you sound like an idiot! Just paraphrasing what you and a lot of people have said.

I don't care if people like this, in fact I really hope it does well because it just means more Ghostbusters. All I was saying is that movie studios will never try harder to make something really good unless we demand it. This is a major franchise that means a lot to a lot of people, and I'm sure Paul Feig worked very hard to make a good film, but right now it looks very, very lazy.

There are studios who put a lot of money and faith behind filmmakers who actually do want to make something GREAT, but then there are studios that want to sell toys and don't particularly care if the movie is any good.

And while in this example, you're just looking for a fun time at the movies, I'm sure there is some analogy that you would feel the same way about. Maybe it's how they don't make good music anymore, or something like that. In the end, I just don't like seeing big movie studios make millions and millions of dollars without doing something great. That's all.

What would be the meaning of that exactly? doubt its true.

I was LITERALLY saying to someone yesterday how I half expected to see Melissa McCarthy kick a ghost in the balls and the ghost’s eyes would cross...

And then this happens:

[YT]simxjM1l4VE[/YT]

the marketing team needs to get fired that was awful but I guess they can't help it if the movie is full of that garbage

I had my doubts about this film, but after the last batch of TV-spots they're gone. It's gonna be utter garbage from all perspectives.

I guess it's because I was born after Ghostbusters 2 was released but I never thought that was considered a bad movie.

Isn't that the whole point, though? Have some fun. I mean, if you only expect perfect movies, you are going potentially miss out on a lot of stuff you may enjoy.

If Ghostbusters is some highly vaunted masterpiece that you can't ignore when seeing this film, fine. But don't belittle people who actually interested in this movie. Is this going to be the original, no. Will it be a classic, probably not. But that doesn't prevent it from being an enjoyable time.

Movie making is an art, not a science. The amount of money that gets pumped into it doesn't guarantee quality. At times, I think people with low expectations enjoy things more.

Here's the thing. When you're building up hype for your movie, the hype is supposed to speak to the quality of the product. The way they're building up hype here doesn't.

The trailers haven't been the best, sure. But I've seen enough to get somewhat excited for it. Just because it isn't for you doesn't mean it isn't working for everyone.

I'll just be honest, for a lot of us, if we actually don't discourage people we feel that we'll just be allowing Hollywood to make more and more of what we don't like. That's what this is really about.

I really hate our society that the go to excuse is if you aren't supportive of something because of quality, they have to bring up some sort of social issue as to why you don't like it.

"You don't like the new Ghostbusters movie? You must be misogynistic."

Meanwhile, I look forward to the Force Awakens and Rogue One.

You are clearly misunderstanding the premise. No, no one is saying that if the movie doesn't appeal to you, that you must be sexist.

Still, the hateful comments the movie received before it even started principal photography were misogyny at work. The people who are saying sexist things are sexist. That's the premise. No more and no less.

Yeah, that's kind of the reason I've joined the negativity bandwagon
Some movies just don't need to be remade.

if something like this makes hundreds of millions of dollars because enough people unenthusiastically say "eh it looks kinda fun, so why not", then Hollywood learns all the wrong lessons

and hell, with how expensive going to the movies is these days, I honestly don't get why someone would go to a movie that just looks "alright"

Not if you hated the director and actors involved. There's no misogyny involved in thinking the people hired are unfunny

The people who are saying sexist things are sexist.

on that, you are quite correct

Maybe not you but there's a lot of people who are easily outraged or are SJW who automatically assume the real reason you don't like something is because you are bigoted.

I do agree those people are sexist. Personally, while the effects look really good it doesn't look particularly funny.

I hated the idea of a Total Recall remake the moment I heard about it

I hated the idea of a Robocop remake the moment I heard about it

I hated the idea of a Ghostbusters remake the moment I heard about it, so, I'm sexist.

Or, maybe it's sexist to assume mysoginy is the reason I hate this movie

Maybe I should have been more clear when I said "hateful" comments. And I also followed up with saying "sexist".

So let me just say...yes, there are reasons to not like this film that are not sexist, BUT, to deny that the movie has received a lot of sexist backlash is ridiculous.

So apparently people who hated the movie when it was announced are automatically misogynist. The reason for the hate is not sexism but Maybe the reason is that people like me hate the idea of a remake for this classic film, hate the actors involved, and hate the director.

I can only speak for myself but the very reason I have point blank refused to watch both Robocop and Total Recall is because I'm sick of my generation of 80's and 90's kids being pandered to by Hollywood. I want new content not a facelift of previous content.

I swear to god, it's like you aren't even reading the words on your screen.

There are all kinds of reasons to dislike the idea of a movie being made. Sexism was one of the reasons that this movie got so much hate from the start. Sexism was not the only reason. I've literally NEVER seen someone say that. I've seen people say that the people making hateful, sexist remarks are sexists.

I can't wait to see the "How it Should have Ended" youtube channel tackle this movie by the end of the summer
