The New Ghostbusters - Part 8

I swear to god, it's like you aren't even reading the words on your screen.

There are all kinds of reasons to dislike the idea of a movie being made. Sexism was one of the reasons that this movie got so much hate from the start. Sexism was not the only reason. I've literally NEVER seen someone say that. I've seen people say that the people making hateful, sexist remarks are sexists.

It wasn't really sexism as most people dislike the idea of reboot for an 80's classic like Ghostbusters and also dislike the actors in this film such as Melissa Mccarthy and Leslie Jones who a lot of people like myself find annoying. It isn't because we're sexist as there are many male actors I dislike too and there are many female actress who I really like who could have been better for this role than the 4 female stars that were cast.

Reading comprehension is a thing...perhaps you should look into that.

I'm saying that there most certainly was a problem with sexist comments, rants and attacks. That doesn't mean that everyone that disliked the idea from the beginning was a sexist or had sexist feelings...

Both realities can co-exist. This isn't an either or scenario.

So you're saying I'm sexist?

I was keeping myself optimistic until I saw one of the latest tv spots with a fart joke and the Stay Puft squashing the ladies' faces against a glass.

You're all ****es... and sexist. :p

Yeah, the gags showing up in these tv spots are going even lower and more juvenile then the first trailer. Lots of cringe.

just wait till the scene where they all have to take turns s**tting in the containment unit! :oldrazz:

Comin out both ends here! - Melissa McCarthy

This is the same man who gave us Maya Rudolph ****ting in a wedding dress in the middle of a busy street. I think toilet humor was a given. :p

honestly, that's one of the funniest things I've ever seen. Not because of the poop joke, but because of Maya Rudolph's acting.

The vulgarity and R rating of Bridesmaids is also what makes those scenes work. This goes for all of Feigs films. Nobody wants to see those crude toilet jokes and language watered down for a family audience, and then transferred into the Ghostbusters franchise.

Feigs films are great but that's the stuff that should have been obviously left out here. Why anyone would want cheap toilet humor gags throughout this film is beyond me.

And for those who believe Paul Feig is infallible, there was once a point in time where Tom McCarthy as a director was infallible. Then he made the Cobbler.

Some of the jokes in the tv spots and trailer are pretty painful to watch, it will be interesting to see how this film does at the box office as i thought for a while that curiosity would make it do ok but the more i see of this film the more i think the mixture of to much nostalgia and not very good material may end up just being a turn off.

It'll obviously drum up interest opening weekend or day.

the patrick swayze ghost joke in the new tv spot is pretty bad, i often try and picture these jokes in ghostbusters 1 and 2 and its still pretty bad.

the humor for this movie is just off and if this is meant to be modernized humor then good for them but ghostbusters is still a classic for a reason

When director of this film starts promoting this movie and his first words of PR are "ruining men's childhood" you should all know how little respect I have for this abomination. Hope it bombs amazing so it ruins some careers.

there are reasons to not like this film that are not sexist, BUT, to deny that the movie has received a lot of sexist backlash is ridiculous.

But there is a big difference: in one scenario, you dislike the movie because of the all female cast, and in the other, you dislike the movie for unspecified reasons (and there are more than plenty, and for starters that's how almost every reboot is initially received), and then the shots and criticism takes a misoginist tone. In the latter, it is wrong to say the movie hatred is fueled by misoginy

As I said, every time a movie reboot/remake is announced, it is received with a lot of skepticism, and initial rejection. Think of Total Recall, Robocop, Conan, Karate Kid, Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, etc. All of them, are treated with negativity of some sort at first ("too soon", "can't compare to original", "can't replace main actor"). Ghostbusters is no different. The difference is that it got what could be labeled as sexist criticism because obviously the peyorative comments were aimed at women. Who else? they are all women, and so far that's the most prominent and only distinctive likeness of this film.

If the movie were an all black cast, the movie would be receiving derogatory comments related to race, if it were all fat would be "unfunny fatsos", if it were all midgets, comments would be bad jokes about height, etc

The movie is not hated 'cause it's all women, it's just that it's hated because most people don't want that remake (as often happens with remakes), and the shot fired are women themed. Saying it is hated because of misoginy is a low attempt to cash on PC

That's ridiculous. If you have relevant criticisms, those are valid opinions. To simplify those as derogatory terms aimed at specific social group that has no bearing on those relevant criticisms is exactly what makes it an "-ism."
