The whole female Slimer thing does feel like something you'd see in a 1980's/90's Saturday morning cartoon and considering how some of the cast have talked about the old cartoon rather than the movies, I can see how we've ended up here. From what I recall of my childhood watching the old cartoon I imagine there would be a similar cringe factor to watching the old cartoon again as I see in these promos for the movie.

I NEVER claimed that. I said the marketing is terrible. I said it's not like the Original, I said it is its own thing. I said I enjoyed it, but that it would never be as good as the original. I personally liked it better than Ghostbusters 2, but it is still a movie with flaws. Don't put words in my mouth please?

So it may be its own thing, which means it could be something that doesn't know what it is or wants to be in the eyes of others. Or it could be something that thinks it's one thing or wants to be, but isn't.

If it wants or wanted to be its own thing, it should have tried to be more original.

Although bluejake and I disagree on our overall opinion of the film we saw he has been nothing but consistent with his take on the marketing and I agree with him, the marketing has been pretty awful. It seems like they are trying to cast a wide net with the broad humor to try to get kids and younger audiences in with the lazy jokes. And at this point it seems like they are playing they nostalgia card with the cameos and callbacks in the trailers in tv spots to lure in the older audiences. So again, jake is spot on, Sony and the marketing team knows they have their work cut out for them.
I've said it for months now, this isn't the worst film ever. Certainly NOT worthy of the vitriol or SJW-ing and soon you all will see that. It's just not very funny (has some funny moments but not a funny movie), it uses nostalgia for the old movies as a crutch and is just ultimately unnecessary.
God I can't wait for this to come out so everyone will just shut up about it.

There isn't a Library or a library ghost. There is an old mansion and the vengeful spirit that haunts it. That spook takes the Librarian's place in the story.

That's what I'm saying though it's made to look like a librarian from the first movie. The marketing for this movie has intentionally been trying to play on people's nostalgia and it's kind of backfiring. If they really wanted to set this film apart from the original they would not have marketed the film in the way they did.

Regarding the CGI.

The majority of the climax of the movie was shot in a soundstage, with part of a street and a couple of entryway facades. I'm impressed with their background work on Times Square.

Spoke to an entertainer over the weekend at a BBQ. Hes good friends with a certain actor (not in the movie) who was watching that early Ackroyd screening. Anyway he told me the actor in question said the movies not good. Anyway keeping identity foggy for obvious reasons.
I'm not a hater btw. Hoping the movies got some good monster designs hidden for the final cut. The marketing has sucked IMO but waiting for the reviews.

Just because you don't like the aesthetic, doesn't mean it isn't good. For what that Stay Puft is supposed to be, it looks fine. It was supposed to be an actual marshmallow man instead of a possessed parade balloon, then I could see the issue.

But again, I'm loving that the ghosts seem to be inspired by the aesthetic of the cartoon.

To match your level of nitpicking... technically the animators don't design the CGI designs, they just make them move.

But I am curious, isn't the review embargo supposed to lift soon?

Yeah, and it's sad, because really the scenes are brief and most of them inconsequential...fan service type stuff. I had hoped the Slimer stuff would be edited down to just the hotdog cart reveal that is shown in the trailers. The joyride in Ecto 1 was the worst part of the movie.
