*The New Superhero Cinematic Civil War Thread - Part 61

If you're not shredding some serious gnar to the Chili Peppers, you're not doing it right.

This was the only time Tommy was cool before he was the Dino Thunder Rangers' mentor :o

Did Marvel ever want to make a Blade movie in the first place? Seems like they greenlit it because Ali wanted to play the character and they wanted to fit it into their universe plans, and it was like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.

I think they genuinely did, especially back in 2019 after Endgame and the Fox acquisition where it seemed like the sky was the limit for them, but Blade just got slammed with bad luck during its long development. Covid, the WGA/SAG Strikes, Marvel's bad 2023 leading to them going back to the drawing board on many projects, and that's not even getting into whatever behind the scenes drama that was going on.

Yeah, Jetman probably wouldn't have been as big as Zyuranger.

Though the villains would have been a bit cooler. Plus, don't have to start out gender bending rangers.

Falcon, Crane, Owl, Swallow, and Condor just don't have the cool factor as Tyrannosaurus, Sabertooth Tiger, Pterodactyl, Triceratops, and Mastodon. :o

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Feige basically say they put the movie into production because Ali said he wanted to do it? Doesn't sound much like a passion project.

Probably. I honestly don't remember with all the news that's been flying around about that movie but back in 2019 I don't think Mahershala would've needed to twist Feige's arm too much with a known property like Blade after they were well into production on movies like Eternals and Shang-Chi. It was their experimental phase.

Even if it wasn't something originally on their radar, they clearly cared enough to cast roles and insert him into a bad post-credit scene. Shouldn't have been hard to figure it out from there. Same production company that has somehow found time to make an awful spinoff staring Agatha because of a song's popularity, a spinoff for that one boring character people hardly remembered from their fun Christmas show, chose to do a Wonder Man show etc. etc.

It's freaking Blade. Might literally be the easiest project that could've possibly come to them.

To be fair, they didn't have anyone in their stable to handle a black vampire movie. :o
