*The New Superhero Cinematic Civil War Thread - Part 61

If it's up to Michael B. Jordan, is Kang the Woman Beater.
They'd just wave it off like they did with Terrence Howard.

Ha, Joe Satriani and his guitar classic Surfing With The Alien! Would never expect to see stuff from him posted here. One of the favourite guitarists during late 80s and early 90s when struggling on learning guitar.

Even though being one of many typical guitar shredders back in the era, Joe early on showed how you also could make fun of cliches and video tropes. It's been decades but this still holds on. And of course the suit alter ego is the best:

The Council Of Kangs in Avengers Doomsday.

I wouldn't put it past them to give a one line explanation that Doom murdered every Kang across the Multiverse similar to Thanos destroying Xandar getting the Power Stone in Infinity War. I don't think they'll do that but I wouldn't be surprised if they did.

I know of him because of my brother. Like you he discovered him while learning guitar.

Maybe they will do it the way Peter Jackson killed the evil wizard character in the theatrical cut of Return Of The King.

I like and enjoy Doctor Strange, and the “Dormammu, I’ve come to bargain!” scene is one of the better and more creative defeats of a villain in the MCU that doesn’t involve having a giant skybeam. And the conversation between Stephen Strange and The Ancient One in the Astral Plane is genuinely one of the more poignant moments in the MCU and something I think about and come back to every so often in my day to day life. Also, all of the trippy Mirror Dimension and action stuff, even Strange’s Trip Through the Multiverse (yes, I know it’s basically inspired by that scene in Contact, but it’s still cool), is a lot of fun and entertaining to watch. The score is nice to listen to, too. I agree that it’s not the best, but I still quite enjoy it.

I stand by it and I will fight you on that. :ali:

I, for one, like Doctor Strange :funny: My issues with it are that Scott Derrickson wasn't allowed to do anything particularly playful with it beyond a very specific MCU template, and the comedy rewrite and reshoots that were tacked on by Feige. The jokes don't work at all. I do think it's more visually interesting than a huge chunk of the franchise, and I'm naturally more into the mystical side of Marvel. I also love Tilda Swinton in the film and I think she brings a lot to the role, as controversial as that casting decision was. Derrickson wanted to go weirder and darker with the sequel, but he was axed, unfortunately.
I like MoM as it, but some of Derrickson's ideas sounded pretty awesome. I kind of wish they had kept him around.

The main reason why I'm so forgiving of Doctor Strange is because of the Dormammu scene.

Too bad it has another 110 mins of runtime!

Strange doesn't even have proper magic in it. It's not till MOM that we see Strange get magical and funky. And the character is so much better for it.

We got some of that in Infinity War when he took on Thanos. I'd even say that Infinity War boosted his popularity more than his first solo movie did. In a movie where most of the heroes were fighting for screentime, Strange was one of the highlights.

True. Imagine having that awful script do better then his own solo film. :weeping:

Infinity War is pretty much the only time I’ve liked Doctor Strange, which is funny because I don’t care for much else in there anymore. :funny:
