*The New Superhero Cinematic Civil War Thread - Part 61

At long last, my long held hatred of Infinity War is being embraced.

:o

For the record. I'm not including myself in that. Infinity War is awesome.

Just getting caught up on some recent convos...

I'm finally mustering some excitement for Thunderbolts* now that the release date is only a week away. I know several folks who are interested in seeing it so I'll definitely be watching this one at the theatre. In fact, speaking purely anecdotally, there seems to be far more interest in Thunderbolts* among friends and co-workers than there was in Brave New World, which hopefully bodes well for the former's box office prospects...

I'm also interested in seeing Sinners theatrically! Everyone I know who's seen it has assured me it's excellent, with several folks interested in seeing it again. Twice in one month at the theatre for me?? It's been literally years since I've done that :D

Also looking forward to Free Comic Book Day next weekend! Saturdays are generally work days for me but I should be able to sneak out around lunchtime for my annual pilgrimage to the local comic book shop to participate in the festivities...

Sad to read about Lar Park Lincoln's passing. I'm a huge fan of the Friday the 13th franchise and thought she did a great job as Tina :csad:

Kudos to Pedro Pascal for his recent stand on transgender issues. I'm a big fan of his and really hope Fantastic Four knocks it out of the park later this summer...

So Blade has been 'officially' removed from Marvel’s release schedule? This news saddens me but a kickass Midnight Sons movie with Mahershala Ali finally playing the character will help lessen the blow. I read some tentative online rumours this past week of Ryan Coogler possibly expressing interest in a second Marvel property along with Black Panther. A Coogler-directed Midnight Sons would probably be about as mind-blowing as it gets these days...

Back to Thunderbolts*, I've been reading that first reactions have been very positive so far. Of course this doesn't mean much, considering first reactions to some recent duds were reportedly glowing as well *cough* Flash *cough* However, I choose to view this as a positive sign for the film's prospects...

Cute that James Gunn is being coy about Green Arrow's inevitable arrival in the new DC Universe. I don't know Green Arrow from Greenland or Green Acres but the new studio has been doing a great job with character casting so all news is welcome...

IGN recently lamented on the question marks surrounding Wonder Woman's involvement in the new DCU. The articled mentioned the value Diana Prince can bring to the new universe with a more competent actor playing WW. Hopefully we get some concrete updates soon...

Infinity War is probably my least favorite of the Avengers movies simply for the fact its sort of a Marvel Universe movie as opposed to being about the Avengers, and I don't love the Cap trio/Vision & Scarlet Witch subplot. But I still really enjoy that movie a lot. I love all the Avengers movies

THANK YOU!
I HATE IW!

Thanos looks like an expensive purple piece of poop, but I LOVE Infinity War. That's easily my second favorite MCU film. I'm largely underwhelmed by most things MCU, but the rare favorites don't get a lot of love here, LOL. Infinity War, Agatha All Along, WandaVision, GotG Vol. 3, Werewolf by Night, Eternals, Black Widow… At least we can all agree that The Winter Soldier is stellar. Or can we?

*Joking, I like The Winter Solider a lot even though it has a funky script.*

Also, I'm sick AGAIN, so I had to cancel my tickets for Sinners, Drop, Black Bag, and Until Dawn. Diva down and PISSED as hell. I was thinking of renting the five-hour cut of Nymphomaniac to keep me entertained. I've never seen any version of it.

Hope you feel better. You just reminded me the Until Dawn movie already came out. 😂

Nah, I don’t mind whether or not people disagree on Infinity War’s quality or which aspects of it are great or not, but I have to push back on Thanos (the character model, not his characterization).

The quality of his character aside, he is at least very fascinating and engaging to watch due to the amount of work by the VFX artists that went into making his character model so detailed, life-like and expressive and that cannot be discounted. Some of that is Josh Brolin (real life controversy aside) and his performance, but a lot of that is the R&D the VFX artists put into it. That character model is genuinely a work of art and great evolution of CGI VFX up to that point. I’ve seen, read and listened to so many people have very strong negative or positive reactions to him as if he’s real and still have those debates here and there over the years. If that wasn’t the case, we still wouldn’t be talking about him.

Also, I think the last 10-15 minutes are genuinely good. The feeling of dread that something terrible is about to happen, the despair sold by every actor’s performance, the pacing, the lack of music, etc. Whether the consequences of that within the story actually paid off or not in any way is an entirely different discussion, but, in the moment, the feeling pretty much all people in the theater had when it ended and cut to credits is undeniable. I still remember how I felt when and what my exact reaction was. One of my favorite memories of seeing a film in the theater. That is not nothing.

And this wonderful piece by Alan Silvestri capping off the whole thing:

I mean, come on.

I won’t argue against the rest of the film, but those last 10-15 minutes!

Saw Sinners for a second time today and yeah it definitely holds up and now Iove it even more than I did on my first viewing.

It does make me even sadder though that Marvel fumbled that Blade movie so badly but atleast we got Delroy Lindo out of it.

I just don't understand how they couldn't get that movie together when Ryan Coogler is just sitting on the sidelines cooking with this movie the entire time.

In an alternate reality I really wish they got Coogler to direct it instead of Wakanda Forever but I know that would have never happened.

What a waste of potential though and Mahershala Ali would have absolutely killed it in that role under the right director.

I haven’t seen it yet.
But, it sure is having an impressive box office run.
Right Now,
Sinners is, ENERGIZING the box office.

Sinners' success is almost single-handely restoring my faith in the moviegoing audience. Almost. Still, a phenomenal showing for a phenomenal movie.

I want that MBJ Val-Zod project sooooo badly. You know he'd bring Coogler on board. :weeping:
MBJ will replace Idris for me as sexiest black actor. :o

And clearly, someone at WB was rooting against his success. So extra nice to see Coogler succeed.
