By "Next Harry Potter" I mean successful movie series which involves kids getting involved in these larger than life fantasy/sci fi adventures

Previous attempts were Spiderwick Chronicles, Percy Jackson, The Last Airbender, A Series of Unfortunate Events

What series (book, comic, cartoon, TV show) do you think could be the next Harry Potter?

Yeah TLA shouldve been it
A Series of Unfortunate Events wouldve been good too. it made decent money and was a critical success, but no sequel

How old are the Runaways in that MAvel series, that's a good bet I think

I'd still like a Lemony Snicket sequel but alas...

I think with Harry Potter was that it was huge even before the movies. And the movies only helped out with the books and the fanbase.

I still haven't seen anything like that. Twilight got mainstream popular due to the movie but before that, it was still a niche demographic.

I just think Harry Potter is one of a kind. You can't make 'another' franchise like that. It just happens, and it's thanks to good writing and that creative spark during the genesis stage.

Choosing the next Harry Potter film would be as likely as choosing the next Lord of the Rings. It's impossible to know.

I loved the Series of Unfortunate Events books, and the movie was okay, I just wish it had been more successful.

It'll probably be Runaways, though.

None of those were as nearly successful. Film companies and writers are trying to find the formula but they're going about it the wrong way. You cannot create a phenomenon...it simply comes on its ow(along with a good story). Harry Potter changed pop culture and children literature.

Harry Potter is the phenomenon of the 90s/2000s just as Star Wars was of the 70s and 80s. These things happen only once every generation at most.

i've been waiting years for an Artemis Fowl movie, i think that has potential.

An Artemis Fowl movie would be damn cool. I always wanted to see a film out of those.

I have all 13 books and have always been a huge fan. I read these before I read Harry Potter. They were just so different. The movie was good from what I remember, but I'd really like to see a sequel. They'd have to be recast, but keep Jim Carrey.

ever since ASOUE hit dvd, I've been wanting a sequel. Loved the books, thought the movie was great, really was looking forward to the miserable mill being adapted, but oh well. :csad:

Before even entering this thread I answered the question. Artemis Fowl.

I doubt there will be a "new Harry Pooter". No books in this genre have been nearly as popular as the Harry Potter-books. At some point I'm sure there will be a new phenomenon, but it probably will be something different, like the Twilight-novels

It is a toss up . I went into Eragon not knowing much and thought it could be something but it dissapointed. It depends on how they handle the material and who knows what is going to stick .

I thought Eragon was going to be the next HP when it came out...then Twilight(didn't know about all the lovey dubby crap back then), then Percy Jackson, but now I'm not sure if there will be a successful "Next Harry Potter" for a looooong time....

I think that Twilight is the next Harry Potter. I know that the fans don't like to hear that but you can't discount a 1.7billion dollar franchise just because you don't like it. The books were very popular and the movies just exploded. It's not a perfect match because the movies have not done as well as Potter overseas (and the reviews for them are far from excellent, unlike Potter's) but the movies are still huge.

Love em or hate em 1.7bil can not be ignored. The franchise will make it's mark because there will be many romance/supernatrual films come out in the next few years, you can bet on it. Not saying thats a good or bad thing but it will happen. It's time the Twi-haters stop pretending that the franchise doesn't exist...because it does.

Depends how Voyage of the Dawn Treader does, but THe Chronicles of Narnia is the closest thing to a Potter/Rings hybrid. The first movie defeated Peter Jackson's King Kong at the box office.

Harry Potter appeals to a wider audience from kids to adulte, I don't think it is the case with Twilight with is pure teen drama and only a particular range of the population is interested in "that" or so I think.

Twilight is like a young idole singer, the fan base will grow up and move to something else while the new younglings will have a new idole to love.

I agree that Harry Potter is much more universal

And you guys are discounting a franchise that has made 1.7bil so far because the movies aren't good. Well, I've said what I've had to say and thats all I'm going to say for now.
