I think after seeing the five short listed, I've come around to Dylan. Do I think he looks like a 15 year old? Not really, but he's absolutely perfect for the role other than that.

I'd like to see Dylan get the role, but in the back of my mind, I'll still be hoping they cast some 18-19 year old unknown who goes and kills it.

Time to make personal shortlists with a college Peter Parker. I'll go first:

1. Logan Lerman
2. Liam Aiken
3. Freddie Highmore
4. Thomas Sangster
and
5. Frank Dillane - he really blew me away with his performance as Tom Riddle. He must have left a big impression on Sony too, because that was pretty much the only thing he had done and yet he was a contender for Peter.

I'll comment on a few more actors!

Josh Hutcherson - good actor, but I can't see him in the role. I don't want to either.
Skandar Keynes - would be a decent choice that I could live with. Maybe he would surprise us?
Ellar Coltrane - yes and no at the same time. Can't decide!
Dylan 0'Brien - NO THANKS!!!

For those who say Aiken is too old. Just imagine if he was the ASM PP! It's something to think about. Unfortunately, it can never happen, unless we travel back in time to change the actor.

Bonus question. If you have to pick one actor that doesn't look like PP at all, and the only choices are Chandler Canterbury, Cameron Bright and Haley Joel Osment. who would you vote for?

Not sure I like anyone on that list. Eh.

The image of Peter Parker I have in my head is SSM's PP and (to me) Asa Butterbeans looks most like the SSM Peter, with the exception of the brown eyes and mole.

Charlie Rowe. Asa looks more like Steve Ditko Peter Parker, which wouldn't be a bad idea.

I think some people here need to calm down. Marvel and Sony know this is a crucial casting. Lets just relax and speculate peacefully, pls.

Funny you mention that:

not really

"Unknown" is a relative term in this discussion, so it really depends on who you're comparing him to. I think he seems bigger than he is because of the particular bubble you're focusing on.

Probably males aged 18 to 34.

The Avengers pulled about 40% female audience, and Guardians of the Galaxy pulled about 44% on opening weekends. Those were the two highest based on exit polling.

So, it's definitely male-dominated (generally 60% or higher), but women are still a significant chunk.

A lot of posters hadn't even heard about him before before he was mentioned here.

To the general audience he is an unknown.

I barely knew who he was. I was team Freddie until my curiosity got the best of me and I watched a couple of (then all) episodes of Teen Wolf.

I am the 44%.

I'd say the age range is probably still solidly in the 18-34 range. But that's a key demographic for basically all media and advertising. They're the big spenders.
