Anybody know who this kid is? Looks like a Peter Parker to me...

Funny enough, I suggested him a while earlier. His name is Robert Sheehan, you might have seen him in Misfits playing a smartass delinquent kid:

Not every actor gets to screen test. And if you think it's not a short list and redditleaker is the guy you trust, more power to you then. :yay:

HE DIDN'T EVEN SAY ANYTHING ABOUT REDDITLEAKER!

Stop being a jerk.

I quoted a bunch of posts that I was going to reply to.. then remembered how long my post got last time I did that with 5 pages of thread... :whatever:

Let me just remind people of what we know for sure:
Nothing.
There you go. :woot:
No but srsly:
Actor must look young enough to portray 16, old enough to play 15. (Very debatable for pretty much any actor)
Actor must have a skill with humor
Actor must be able to portray nerdy character PP.
Actor should have a build which would be believable as Spider-Man.
Above are the obvious. Most of it is actually pretty subjective, and depending on the person different actors fit better.

Now for the complicated stuff:
Marvel/Sony has likely narrowed down the list to 5 actors, some of which are in their early 20s. (Rumor from Steve, very trustworthy, no reason for him to mislead anyone as it was just a tweet, unless is lead by Marvel employees as conspiracy theorists would say)

Within an hour or so, Sneider was able to gather a list of "“Spider-Man” contenders" and post an article about them. "none of the five actors above have test offers" but "multiple individuals" have told him that "they are strong contenders who are definitely 'in the mix'" (multiple sources say that these 5 actors are actors Marvel/Sony are looking at, not necessarily have these multiple sources said they are in Marvel/Sony's official top 5 list) "there are actors in the mix whose identities remain a secret" "those are the five actors TheWrap has heard consistently from trusted sources" The sources have not been revealed, thus they are not official sources, otherwise they would be able to reveal them. Basically we can't really know if the sources are even from Marvel/Sony. We know as much about his sources as we know about redditleaker's sources.
Most importantly:
We don't know if these are the only actors, nor do we know if these actors are actually in the official shortlist, these are what Sneider thinks are on the shortlist, and he has confirmed them because they are names "TheWrap has heard consistently".

Eg. No news here. Nothing official, this should not effect who we think can get the role. Not yet anyhow. Not until Marvel/Sony makes a statement. If Marvel does make a statement that Sneider is correct by chance, then it still just makes it a Shortlist which can change. Marvel will not likely post the shortlist until they are pretty sure about it, if they will ever. The fact that they haven't posted it means either they don't know, therefore Sneider is bluffing (i doubt it) or they know but are not sure and it may change. (More likely) or they have/will skip the shortlist reveal and get right to the actor chosen.

Just wanted to make sure it was clear to those who missed most of this thread. We still know 0 official legalistic standards which the spider-man actor must be pretty much what we have always known. I just wanted to make sure that no-one was mislead by all this talk about the 'short-list' being revealed.

How about: Skyler Gisondo

Just saw him in Night at the museum 3. I thought he might be someone to consider after hearing him say a couple of quick quips to his dad. Then I realized he actually looks kinda the part.

@Pecola5 Please don't word it that way.

Top 5, or "narrowed it down to 5" implies they are the top five in contention.

They aren't.

They are five names in serious contention, as are (presumably) the many others who've made it far enough where they may be invited to test. But make no mistake:

Until those who will screen test are chosen, there is no shortlist, and there is no top 5. There are probably WELL over a dozen actors still in contention.

Sneider already knew those names. Some of them for weeks. I can testify that. But hey, don't let reality get in the way of your conspiracy theory.

Talking about conspiracy theory...

The "clueless people pooper scoopers" talking and flat out saying that Dylan O'Brien isn't getting the part this time are Dave Gonzales from Latino-Review and Geek.com, and Merrill Barr a rabid Teen Wolf fan that also works for Forbes and Screenrant. Yeah...

I see harryoscop changed his choice for Peter Parker, again.

That's the only for sure thing around here these days.

Keep trying to convince yourselves that this shortlist isn't legit and that Sneider is a fraud.
Someone on this shortlist is LIKELY to be cast, just like Evans, Garfield, Downey and Scarlett Johansson.
the actors you see before you are the strongest candidates for the role. yes, things can change, actors on this shortlist might change, but one of these guys is going to be the next Spider-Man. I've accepted it and moved on. everyone is so desperate for Dylan to get the role that they're going ignore or discredit any trusted scooper that says otherwise.

Goodnight.

Don't think he'll have too much time to change his mind this time around.

I'm not trying to discredit Sneider, but quote him and show you what he really said. He didnt say this was an official list. He said that they are people talked about and in the mix for the role. I don't think anyone who has anylized the actual words of his article can say with certainty thst he is claiming this to be an official list...
Btw, you seem to have flip flopped again even after no further evidence has come to the table... has the mere prescence of Talion the all knowing caused this? :0
It seems that Talion comes on, claims people are being stupid and ignoring facts, but hes fine.with it of course. Talion then claims that he knows more than we do, but cant give evidence for it.
All this talk about people having to ignore facts or try to discredit Snaider to think Dylan is still in is quite hilonestly crap... Sneider never claimed the list to be official, and you can tell that he wrote it in a way that if what he says is later denied he can not have lied. (just read the article and you will see what I mean) Sneider doesnt know enough to be sure enough to claim it to be official. (Or at least thats all he has revealed, obviously Talion knows more about what Sneider knows or not than I do)

I gave evidence for people that I trust here. And pretty much all that matters about what I know is already out there. I can prove how I knew it before and there're people that I trust that have seen the evidence of me not bsing with you people.

But then again it's late and I don't care.

Please. You gave the "evidence" to people most likely to believe your claims. One of them, most notably, being Harryoscop, one of the most gullible and fickle users in these threads; someone who believes anything you or these "scoopers" say (something you've taken great advantage of), and changes his opinion on whom he thinks should be cast, and whom should be believed, multiple times a day.

It is seriously distressing to me how easily someone like you can influence someone like Harryoscop, who hangs on your every word, and constantly changes his opinion to match yours. It's equally as distressing how easily someone like Jeff Sneider can create a false perception of these facts, and get guys like you and Harryoscop to believe it...... but I digress.

What I'm getting at here is this:

You have hung on the words of these con artists masquerading as journalists (who manipulate the truth, parade their own opinion as fact, and crap on readers who call them out on it), spitefully and obnoxiously challenged those of us who have dared to disagree with you (and these scoopers) and have (GASP!) a different opinion than yours, and manipulated other, more easily influenced users here to follow that same drum beat. And on top of that, you're now claiming to have inside sources (of which have been inconsistent in their reports, if they are in fact real). This, being a huge leap from you being that guy who REPEATEDLY speculated that Peter Parker would die in Civil War (and that Miles Morales would take his place), and got crap for it, during your earliest days here. But again, I digress.

This all said, I am sick and tired of your downright trollish behavior here. Clearly the mods don't feel its anything to dole out a punishment for. But to be fair, you haven't done anything too extreme. But that said, I'm going to try and stay away from here until the casting is done. If I stay around here much longer, I might say something that will get me banned. Because, to be brutally honest, I have many, much more colorful words I could use to describe your behavior, but there's no need to resort to that. It would be childish, rude, disruptive, and petty. And perhaps I've gone too far with what I've said here about you and Harryoscop, but I had to get this off my chest. And if you or Oscop (particularly Oscop) takes offense to this, I'm sorry. I'm just trying to state what it is I've observed here and how I feel about it.

P.S. I realize you'll probably report me for this, like you threatened to report me for insulting Jeff Sneider (who absolutely deserves it for his blatant clickbait), and/or accuse me of being a Redditleaker and DBS supporter, of which I am neither. But I don't care. Do what you have to do. I just don't have it within me to have these pointless and petty arguments with you anymore. And I wish good luck to those who will. And I'm not trying to be snarky in saying this. Just pointing out what you're typical response to this type of thing is.

P.S.S. Yes, I do support Dylan O'Brien for the role, and I do believe he's in running, and if I'm being truthful here, I am a massive O'Brien fanboy. And guess what?

There's nothing wrong with that.

Even if its not true (which it may not be) or seems outlandish, I and others here are entitled to our opinion, and can support whoever we want. No matter how unrealistic it may be or seem.

The funny thing is we are going back and forth and Peter Parker is in all likelihood already cast.

As for the list, my take is the original tweet (from someone reputable) simply stated that there is a short list of 5 actors, Schneider then phone around and listed the names his sources had mentioned the most rather than listing the actual shortlist.

If several sources are mentioning the same names there is probably sometime in it but at the same time the 5 actors aren't nessasarily the final 5 the original tweeter mentioned.

Spider-Man role isn't cast, my friend. That "talking American" tweet from Asa wasn't from a test screening, the film that he was working on back then (the Tim Burton's one) he portrays an American kid.

The invites for the test screenings are going out soon. Asa Butterfield, Timothée Chalamet, Nat Wolff, Liam James and Tom Holland are the actors in the short list. That's - mostly - what I know.

Okay so, talion asked me to advocate for him because he was kind enough to share info with me re. his source.

He does have a source. This source does not make Talion's word gospel, nor is his source infallible.

So my advice is to not outright ignore Talion. What he says re. spider-man casting is worth listening to, but IMO should not be the only thing that guides conversation on here.

Finally, whatever talion knows at time of writing is more or less exactly what we as a community know regarding spider-man casting. This may of course change in the future pending additional info from talion's source.

I think we should be open to competing viewpoints on here and should respect rational arguments, even if they turn out wrong.

This place will be unbearable when Spider-Man is eventually cast and the actor isn't DOB.
But fear not, all will not be lost. In Back to the Future Eric Stoltz was brought in because Michael J Fox had commitments but after a few shots the filmmakers decided that Stoltz wasn't working out and so waited for MJF. So if DOB isn't cast don't give up, the person cast may SUCK during filming and DOB may STILL get in.
