The Nightmare on Elm Street film thread

Anyone know if there are pictures of the different gloves Freddy's had over the years (kinda like Jason's mask)?

Also if Robert Englund were to retire from the role, could anyone EVER play Freddy better than him?

Sorry, had to go back and highlight this for being a line that made me laugh out loud

"Dream Warriors are all awesome characters and it's a shame that Freddy has to hack through a majority of them in the film."

Regarding the Freddy prequel, I think the coolest thing about it could be showing human Freddy's demented dreams.

And why do tell is that so funny? It's my opinion, if you don't share it, fine, but you don't really have to ''call" it out.

Go to sites that have pics of the gloves(and sell them as well),like www.nightmaresunlimited.com

Personally,I'm under the belief that somebody else could play Freddy, despite how much Robert has meant to the role. However,no one could ever play Freddy as well as Robert,no doubt. But somebody else maybe could bring something else to the role. Who knows?

i dunno man somebody probably could play him but it would never be the same never i mean look at Freddy vs Jason (although i actually love it) you can easily tell when its Robert Englund and when its that stunt guy playing Freddy

Jason, Michael, (etc.) are all replaceable, Freddy isn't.

I'm rather disappointed that New Line didn't strike while the iron was hot. Freddy vs. Jason was a huge hit and I expected a resurgence in the slashers like Freddy and Jason, but since then..nothing.:csad: Although I hear that New Line is making a Nightmare prequel, but is taking time to get the script right, which is good. I don't want that film rushed. Of course, next year we get a new Jason and Michael Myers films, but Freddy is the most popular of all the slashers so I don't see why a new Nightmare film isn't coming out anytime soon.

i got the dvd set when it was first released and cost a small fortune....now it appears that i have to buy the first again...does this special edition have enough extra stuff (that wasn't in the original box set) to be worth it?? i honestly havn't looked into it yet.

By all means, pick it up. They have some great bonus features on there. I don't think you'll be disappointed, thedeadite.:woot:

cool..will possibly do it tomorrow...i just get weary of double dipping for extra stuff and ending up with very little different.

I know what you mean, thedeadite. As I was hesitant picking up the recent special edition of NOES as well. But like Stevens said, it's worth picking up.

You know what? I could take Freddy in a fight. All he is is some old burnt guy who can...kill you in your dream. I don't understand why more of the kids didn't try to fight back in their dreams like in one of the movies.

I've heard rumors of a Nightmare "remake" being seriously considered at New Line. I don't have a direct link, but I've heard a few people in the horror industry mention it. Somebody mentioned next Halloween, but I'm not buying myself untill I get some proof or statement from New Line. I thought they were after a prequel?

I fully agree. I've wanted a dark prequel more thna anything, even a Freddy vs. Jason 2 or a new Nightmare movie. I can't remember the guy's name, but New Line did pick a director for it earlier this year so it must mean they are serious about it.

Btw,does anyone else share my opinion that Freddy won the battle over Jason in FvJ? Technically,Freddy was the last one standing. Lori gave Freddy the final death blow, not Jason.

Does anyone remember in the fourth movie (Dream Master) there was a scene where Alice meets up with her boyfriend so they can stop Freddy and they repeat the scene over and over again? When I first saw thid movie on VHS I thought something was wrong with the tape.

I saw Nightmare 4 in a theatre and I thought the same thing. I was thinking,"Somebody ebtter go up there and fix the film before it becomes even more messed up." :oldrazz:
I will say the Nightmare 4 is probably the most entertaining of the Elm Street series. Although,it wasn't scary and it was the movie when Freddy became a stand up comedian. Still,I enjoyed it. GREAT death scenes too, including Freddy's.

I agree, Dream Master was definatley the most fun of the series, it was released when Freddy's popularity was at it's highest, and it is also my favorite.

Nightmare 4 also holds the record for the highest money maker of the series. I think it made close to $50 million. Unheard of at the time for a slasher flick. Freddy was king of the 80's,no doubt. No one else ever came close.

Yeah, Nightmare 4's success is what caused ANOES 5 to go straight into production as New Line wanted to obviously capitalize on their perhaps unexpected success with 4. Unfortunately, it didnt work out as New Line had hoped, as ANOES 5 is probably the least successful Freddy film to date I believe.

I think Wes Craven's New Nightmare is the least successful of the series pulling in only $18-20 million. I think Nightmare 5 made, maybe $22 million? I can't remember, but by the time Nightmare 5 came out,Freddy,as well as the slasher genre in general, became way too overexposed and stale.
I find it pretty amazing though because the original Elm Street helped breathe new life into horror and slasher films in 1984. And the series pretty much carried the genre untill the late 80's. Wes Craven's New Nightmare was a brilliant film in the sense that it kind of discussed horror and it's effect on pop culture way before "Scream" even did,but it came out 2 years too early and people weren't ready for that yet. Then,Freddy(with help from Jason)once again gave horror new life and brought it back into the spotlight with 2003's Freddy vs. Jason.

Thats true.

One thing about 1989, is that there were alot of horror franchise films that had came out that year, but performed horribly at the box office. ANOES 5, Friday part 8, TCM 3, Halloween 5 ect ect. Yes its true, the 1980's horror icons were very lucrative there for awhile, but unfortunately those top horror franchises had simply burned out by the end of the 1980's. And it wasnt until the early 2000's where a good many of the classic horror franchises of the 1970s/1980s began to make their long awaited comeback.
