FINAL FANTASY VII: REMAKE Maker Elaborates On Square Enix's Approach To Redesigning The Classic
Final Fantasy VII Remake Director Tetsuya Nomura has promised that we will learn more about the long-delayed title in 2019, and he wasn't kidding, as this new interview features a lot of juicy details...Read more

Final Fantasy VII Remake
Director Tetsuya Nomura revealed in December that various presentations of the long-delayed jRPG will be released throughout 2019. Considering that Sony won't be helming an E3 press conference in 2019, fans of the brand might have to wait until this year's PlayStation Experience to learn more about Final Fantasy VII: Remake, that may very well be a next-gen project at this point.

The fact that another major Enix project (also helmed by Nomura), Kingdom Hearts III, has already gone gold, gives hope that the studio can now focus on the remake that was announced in 2015. In a recent interview with Wantedly (translated by Radigar, hian, ChipNoir from TheLifestream and NeithOF from GameFAQs), Shinichiro Biwa, Planner of the Business Division 1 (the internal Square development team that is working on FFVII 2.0.), elaborated on the company’s approach to redesigning the classic.

According to Biwa, Square is splitting the process of remaking a location in three equally important parts: interpretation, planning modifications, and actually implementing the basic ideas and polishing up the location. "When a great idea doesn't get realized as intended due to technical difficulties which then forces modifications on the initial plan, or when someone else comes up with a brilliant new idea which makes me feel bad for myself for not coming up with it," the developer said.

"Because when you're feeling like you have given all the great ideas you could come up with and then someone else comes with a new overwhelmingly good idea you feel the frustration," Biwa concluded. He also confirmed that the planning phase for all locations is already settled and the team recently entered the "building/making" phase, as the locations are already taking the desired shape.

Rumor has it that development on the remake had to be pretty much restarted, or at least a lot was scrapped, after Square Enix's decision to take back the project from CC2 (the company that gave us the Naruto: Ultimate Ninja series) two years ago, as the studio's work to that point was apparently useless.

In Midgar, a city controlled by the mega-conglomerate Shinra Inc., the No. 1 Mako Reactor has been blown up by a rebel group, AVALANCHE. AVALANCHE was secretly formed to wage a rebellion against Shinra Inc., an organisation which is absorbing Mako energy, destroying the natural resources of the planet. Cloud, a former member of Shinra's elite combat force, SOLDIER, was involved with the bombing of the Mako Reactor. Can Cloud and AVALANCHE protect the planet from the huge, formidable enemy, Shinra Inc.?

Final Fantasy VII: Remake is currently in development for PlayStation 4 and Square Enix hasn't announced anything officially regarding its release date yet.

Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age
is one of the many titles in the Final Fantasy series that Square Enix announced last year; with the original game caming out for the PlayStation 2 all the way back in May of 2006.

This new game is a remastered version of the original Zodiac Age, featuring some updated graphics such as enhanced textures and shadowing effects. The game is not only getting an HD upgrade, but the developers have also tweaked with the game's mechanics in order to make it feel more like a current game.

As if that wasn't enough, Square Enix has also revealed that the game is now featuring re-recorded BGM with live performances, which can be freely switched back to the game's original soundtrack; making it a treat for fans who want the same original experience.

Today, we got some gameplay footage for Square Enix's Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age, running on the Nintendo Switch, taken from the PAX East event. There is no sound, however, since it seems that there was an audio issue with the demo station for the Switch, but it will still give you a good idea of what the game looks like on Nintendo's console.

Take a look:

Enter an era of war within the world of Ivalice. The small kingdom of Dalmasca, conquered by the Archadian Empire, is left in ruin and uncertainty. Princess Ashe, the one and only heir to the throne, devotes herself to the resistance to liberate her country. Vaan, a young man who lost his family in the war, dreams of flying freely in the skies. In a fight for freedom and fallen royalty, join these unlikely allies and their companions as they embark on a heroic adventure to free their homeland.

Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age will be available for the Nintendo Switch and Xbox One on the 30th of April.

Final Fantasy VII Remake project lead now co-director; Naoki Yoshida division developing large-scale next-gen project
Published 5 hours ago. 70 comments.
Minor updates to Square Enix's recruitment websites.

Naoki Hamaguchi, who we previously knew as the project lead on Final Fantasy VII Remake, is now a co-director on the project, an update to Square Enix’s recruitment page for the title reveals. That means Hamaguchi and previously known director Tetsuya Nomura now share the same role.

Nomura has previously compared Hamaguchi’s forme rrole as project lead to the role of Kingdom Hearts III co-director Tai Yasue. Nomura, of course, also directed Kingdom Hearts III.

Additionally, Square Enix’s former 5th Business Division led by Final Fantasy XIVproducer and director Naoki Yoshida is now known as the Third Development Division, and is working on a new title for the next generation.

“Based on the former 5th Business Division, the newly established Third Development Division has started work on a new key project following Final Fantasy XIV, taking up a challenge for the next generation,” Yoshida said in a message. “This project has already finished early development, as well as preparation of the development environment, and is now moving into the full-blown, large-scale development phase. The new project is seeking developers who want to deliver both ‘fun’ and ‘enjoyment’ to the world, as well as ‘surprise.’ If you want to challenge the world market, then we look forward to your application.”

The image above featuring the text, “A new project, underway,” has been up on the 5th Business Division recruitment website since 2016.

The Third Development Division is currently seeking planners, designers, programmers, and a project manager to work on the project.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is in development for PlayStation 4.

Thanks, @DKHF_ (2).

with the way VII Remake is going, we may not see it this gen. And if it's going to be multiple parts, there's no way all parts/episodes will be released this gen........lol.

Luckily, PS5 will be BC with PS4 games. I wonder if this will remain a full PS exclusive.

FF VII Remake Still Lives!!

A new trailer was shown yesterday during Sony's State of Play. And it looks fantastic!!

I'm seeing complaints that Cloud looks a little feminine

eh, he looks like Cloud to me.

what I'm still not sure of is if this is a full PS4 exclusive or just timed exclusive or multiplat.

Final Fantasy VII Remake still a multi-part series

The title's long absence has not changed its 2015-announced plans.

FF7R-Parts_05-10-19.jpg

As first announced in December 2015, Final Fantasy VII Remake will still be a multi-part release, Square Enix has confirmed.

In a Japanese blog post, the company said, “For Final Fantasy VII Remake, which will be reborn on PlayStation 4, there is a lot of content to review in doing a full remake, and production is underway as multiple parts.”

Final Fantasy VII Remake is in development for PlayStation 4. If you missed it last night, watch the minute-long State of Play teaser trailer here. More information will be released in June.

the phrase "reborn on PS4" is interesting. to me, that suggests this title is indeed a PS4 exclusive. So far everything has been pointing to that.

As for it being multi-part, I don't mind it if it's going to be divided up into 2 or 3 games. and each game feels like a complete game with all the extra and remade content.

Though that does call into question will all the parts release on PS4. or is some of it going to carry on into PS5.

with the rate they are going, I have hard time believing Part 1 is even going to release on PS4. especially if it's still a few years out.

multi part to them means Episode like in life is strange or what telltale was doing with their games. this may be on other plat forms wayYyy later. But they are concentrating on the ps4 for now.

if it's going to be like Life is Strange or Telltale games, then maybe each part shouldn't be a full $60 then.

and yeah, I remember back when Remake was announced that it come "first" to PS4. but since then, we haven't heard anything else.

New trailer just released with launch date!!

March 3, 2020!! Worldwide release!! PS4!!

So......I'm guessing this a full PS4 exclusive now? It didn't say worldwide release "first on PS4." and it only shows the PS4 logo at the end of the video ( the same as the past few trailers ).

I hope they clarify the platform info tomorrow. If it's full PS4 exclusive, timed exclusive, or multi-plat, just confirm it already.
