Comedy The Offical Saturday Night Live Thread - Part 3

What the **** are you doing Lorne?
I've been seeing this going around and until we get some confirmed reports from people on the show I think it's hearsay. Case in point, The Mirror is a tabloid news source. Not that I'm one to defend Lorne because having Trump host in 2015 and Musk hosting a few years back were questionable choices but if that were to happen, he'd risk a mass boycott of a majority of guests who are supposed to be at the show, both celebrity guests and past cast members alike. Why piss off everyone at your own party? Even taking the fact that it's Trump out of the equation, the idea of having a sitting President with Secret Service detail would be a logistical nightmare for a show like this.

2ND UPDATE. NBC has announced the last group of celebrities that will take part in SNL:50 The Anniversary Special on Jan. 16. They include Alec Baldwin, Ana Gasteyer, Billy Crystal — who famously was cut from the very first episode of SNL — Cher, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Leslie Jones, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Mike Myers, Miles Teller, Rachel Dratch, Rev. Al Sharpton, with the network teasing more surprises.

By the way, the 50th special tonight already has a lot of work cut out for it if they want to reach this height from the concert on Friday night:

The show itself was actually pretty awesome, the return of that sketch with Will and Ana as well as the Lonely Island medley with Gaga were hilarious but there were a ton of awesome acts too like Nirvana + Post Malone and Jack White.

The 50th Anniversary Special was fun but for me the highlight was Eddie Murphy. His Tracy Morgan impression in Black Jeopardy was hilarious and seeing him in a sketch with Will Ferrell felt like a fever dream.

Also Ayo Edeberi last night in the Debbie Downer sketch...

I don't remember Meryl Streep or Kim Kardashian hosting an episode of SNL.

Also did Sheri Oteri appear in the SNL at 50 Documentary?

Kim Kardashian hosted back in 2016, I think.
More recent than that, it was 2021. She infamously met Pete Davidson there. I think the only reason they brought her in for the 50th was so they could have Dooneese touch her butt. :o

I don't think she ever did.

So I don't know why she was there. I guess she's friends with Lorne.

Now I do remember Al Sharpton hosting SNL because I remember a sketch where Sharpton played a relative of Tracy Morgan's Brian Fellows.

Bill Hader not being there could make for some comedy fodder if he hosts again. He could do a part of his monologue explaining why he couldn't make it to the 50th anniversary show.

She's also allegedly dating Martin Short which might have had something to do with it.

Hader's presence was definitely missed but at least we saw him in the Californians VW commercial.

Dan Aykroyd not being there was a bigger question mark to me, especially since all of the other surviving original cast members were there. I feel like if he had been, they all might have presented the "Don't Look Back in Anger" clip at the end along with Garrett Morris.

The other noticeable absence was Dana Carvey. I'm not sure if he was actually in the building or not but at least he had plenty of screentime in the beginning of the season so him being MIA isn't as much of a big deal. He brought Church Lady back recently and him and Mike did a Wayne's World sketch at the 40th. If anything he could have performed "Chopping Broccoli" at the concert on Friday.

Didn't know that Meryl was divorced.

Hader will be back and he will joke about his absence from SNL 50th Special. Carvey will too.

The MAGA backlash to Hanks is so funny. They legitimately convinced themselves that the election meant they were liked and respected now.
