Thor:TDW had problems outside of studio input. Besides, Marvel let Black and, apparently, Gunn have free reign making their movies for the studio. Whedon didn't seem to have any problems.

But yeah, there is something strange about this one.

Yeah but apparently they did meddle in TIH and IM 2 pretty heavily as well. So it appears to vary depending on the director.

He was the only reason I had faith in the project. Bigger blow than Aronofsky leaving The Wolverine. :(

I wouldn't be surprised if this is reworked quite a bit now Wright's gone

Totally agree...Even the Russo brothers had free reign. This doesn't make any sense. Most have really been something major. Really shocked. I remember seeing the test footage at SDCC '12...such a bloody shame.

This is so ****ing depressing.

I need to find some way to cheer up.

I'm sad now, just bought Scott Pilgrim earlier today with excitement about Ant-Man in mind. :(

The problem seems to stem from Marvel wanting to synergize each of the films while the directors want to tell more focused, self-contained stories.

I wonder if this film is going to be another Thor:The Dark World. The revolving door of directors and micro managing hurt that film's quality.

I'm not sure they have time because the release date isn't being moved and they already have the cast/studio/crew hired.

They rewrote the first Iron Man movie making Stane the main villain instead of Mandarin but even then that was about ten weeks before filming started. Ant-Man has even less time than that.

I think it varies based on the strength of the director(s). Norton also had his claws in Leterriere. That guy was a walking puppet.

The best Marvel movies are the ones where the directors know what they want and they have a clear vision (Russos, Whedon, Gunn, etc.). The "hired guns" are the guys you have to worry about.

My anticipation for Ant-Man just went in the tank.

He is such a wonderful director. :(

Agreed...I love his last movie "The World's End" end was super excited. He had such energy and passion for the project. 6 years for god's sake. Times like these I hate Marvel Studios. The have the most successful franchise ever created, and still stuff like this happens. Ridiculous.

I'm honestly not surprised at all. I feared this would happen but it sucks that it actually is a reality now. I wouldn't be surprised if the Russo's suddenly took over or there's some runner ups they can go to on their lists

And that's what's so strange about this. Wright is anything but a "hired gun". He's been involved in the MCU since even before Iron Man.

This is really disappointing.

MS and Wright had 8 f***ing years to come to a consensus and NOW they suddenly have creative differences?

So true! Wright had a clear vision for the project. Such a damn shame!

This. Agreed. The projects with rumored BTS issues are two, maybe. The rest of the Marvel productions have, to my knowledge, ran about as smoothly as any big budget blockbuster can be run.

It does depend on the talent involved.

Now, it'll be interesting to see who they choose as a director. Could their have been an arrangement for Cornish to come in at the last minute? Or, like I said above, Lord & Miller? I'd be fine with either option.

Or if Marvel decided on one movie next year and shove either Panther or Captain Marvel into development, I'd be perfectly fine with that as well.

Well this sucks. When was filming suppose to start?

I would laugh my ass off if Patty Jenkins was announced as the director.

I really hope this film isn't going to suffer and the actors aren't going to leave, what a mess.

For what purpose? I thought the script was really good so that's why they waited for him.
