Lost all credibility at the bolded point, but I'll humor you anyway. How are people coming to this conclusion that Peter is going to be all serious and brooding based on two minutes of footage? I'd also encourage you to key in on the Oscorp scene in the trailer where Peter acts like a child on Christmas morning when Gwen seemingly gives him the go ahead to snoop around.

The trailer was moody and grim, but that doesn't mean the whole film will be. Steve Klove has said that there will be naturalistic humor in the movie. Poni_Boy has also stated that in clips he has seen (presumably ones being shwon at SDCC) Peter is a little bit of a wiseass and has no trouble making fun of his opponents.

We need to stop jumping to conclusions here.

Mhmmm. I'll believe Poniboy's statements when descriptions of ComiCon come out. However, maybe you're right and he is the smartass in the comics.

But the trailer marketing doesn't say that. The trailer sells him as a lonely, isolated young man who carries the weight of his parents's deaths on his shoulder (again, more than a hint of a certain Nolan movie) who broods in the corner of the classroom while proving complexly irresistable to Gwen. Granted, that is just marketing and the final product can be very different, but he had the sullen, charismatic outsider thing going all through the trailer. Sony is clearly playing to a certain audience with that.

You've apparently never read Ultimate Spider-Man. Peter's demeanor, social status and unrelenting curiosity about his parent's death in USM is all very similar to that shown in the trailer. Believe it or not, Christopher Nolan didn't invent everything about film making.

Excuse me, but what terrible dialogue?

I'm pretty sure he's talking about keeping secrets and having secrets kept. It probably fits within the context of the story instead of some cliche throw away for a trailer.

I was VERY tempted after avatar but a mind-blowing Spidey would me me take the plunge. The funny thing is it was Spidey that made me buy a blu ray player and (I think) it was Spidey that made me buy a DVD player. Spidey has cost me a fortune :funny:

TRON LEGACY > avatar

The secret of his identity and the secret of his parents disappearance that was kept from him. How is that cliche in any way, shape or form?

gosh damn the teasers for The amazing Spider-Man and The Avengers kicked TDKR teaser's ass six ways to sunday

Well we don't know how much the story deals with that because its only a trailer. Any saying at the end of a trailer sounds cliche without context. And when I said cliche, I was referring to what he probably meant to be terrible not me. I never thought it was cliche, in fact I was intrigued.

Woah, Nelly. I am not a Nolan fanboy. I still recall the vitriol spat at me when I posted after Batman Begins's release that I preferred Spider-Man 2. Fan communities get so defensive. :rolleyes:

With that said, after the success of Batman Begins there have been a slew of gritty reboots or reimagining of characters. Call me cynical, but I don't see DeMatthis or Stern or some of the edgier Spidey writer's fingerprints on this as much as I do a similar reboot formula. Particularly, with the emphasis on parental legacy which was never a big factor to Peter in the comics. I'll admit I never read a lot of Ultimate Spider-Man though. However, in USM, from what I recall, Peter was not so much moody as defiant. Again, the final product can be very different and they're obviously changing elements from USM (like Gwen being his confidant instead of MJ which just twists things all over again, but that's another discussion).

I'm not insulting the movie. Just noticing the marketing of the film.

I thought the dialogue was tight and the closing line has several meanings when analysed closely.

Secrets can refer to a lot of things. Spidey keeping his secret identity secret, the secret dealing with what really happened to Richard and Mary Parker, etc.

Parental legacy was HUGE to Peter in USM. His parents and his quest to find out what truly happened to them lead to his finding the symbiote as well as to his finding SHIELD/Nick Fury. How is that not a big factor? And, Peter's demeanor isn't moody in this trailer. He seems like a kid that wants to know why his parents left him and why they never returned. Not to mention the fact that almost every clip of Peter in the trailer seems to be from before the spider bite or days after. Peter doesn't really get confident until he realizes his true potential.

Read the ultimate Spidey 'venom' story line, it explores peter's motivation for finding out about his parents. The mood of the comic is very dark and sombre. If the film makers are using this arc for their ideas, it's easy to see why this movie is dark and foreboding but that's ultimate spider-mans influence not Nolan.

Well, I honestly never cared for Ultimate Spider-Man so you're not exactly selling the concept to me. ;)

As for the rest, whatever. I suspect in a year people will be wondering why Peter was so brooding the whole film. Some will say "His parents have been missing for 10 years and he wants to find out what happened!" I'll say, "Hollywood formula, baby!" Until then, I feel I am just angering fans who want to revel right now.

To put a positive spin on what I've been saying....I'm sure it will be a better movie than Spider-Man 3. I mean it has the Lizard in the movie.

Because it becomes confusing when people say "Thursday at midnight" You aren't sure if they mean the beginning of Thursday or the beginning of Friday.

well i dont know why people get that confused. there is only 1 thurs at midnight, it's right after wed.. otherwise it would be friday at midnight if u waited past thurs night. lol

This is not accurate.

it's not?? i read it was confirmed on cbm.com

"
We have received confirmation from Columbia Pictures that the first trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man will hit the Internet this Thursday at midnight PST. We will have it for you as soon as it becomes available, but until then check out some filming footage." mind filling us in then?

In all honesty, I don't care if Peter mopes, the thing I crave most is that Spidey has his own personality. Peter takes his angst and flips it when he is in costume other wise the credits should read;

Andrew garfield - Peter Parker/Peter Parker in Spider-Man costume

Rather than;

Andrew garfield - Peter Parker/ Spider-Man

Exactly, because Peter had some brooding moments in a darkly lit, bootleg, version of a TEASER trailer seemingly designed to erase the campy perceptions of Spider-Man 3 from the audience's mind, he will be brooding the whole film. I'm sure in the set-video where he has his hands up to the police, says something, and dodges, I'm sure Spider-Man is just saying something very macabre and Twilight-y because Garfield has "R-Pat" hair. I mean joking with the police? That's not very brooding.

You're right, I'm positive that's how he will be portrayed. Also, I think The Dark Knight Rises will just be about Bruce deciding whether to be Batman or not and visiting people in hospitals. NEXT SUMMER WILL BE AWESOME!
