The thing I liked about the Spider-man 2 teaser was that it was light-hearted AND serious. Obviously we know that Spider-man 2 ended up not being that serious at all and had its fair share of camp...but based off that teaser its clear to see that you can be serious without being dark and gritty. The Empire Strikes Back is a perfect example of this. I thought that would be the direction the reboot was going.

Im still open to it though...after all I am on superherohype so I am going to watch it regardless. Its just not what I was looking forward to

You can't expect it really to be like ESB though. That was extremely dark and serious, yet it was set in a fantastical world, and filled with fantastical people/situations. I think that is what gives people a feeling of more "light-heartedness".

Spidey himself is fantastical so is his rouge gallery. But other than that he always lived in the real world. I kinda see what you mean but I guess at the same time I don't. I felt the end part was fun enough, but its filled with serious character drama.

Again this trailer was going to show its seriousness, I said this months ago. Because they want to push themselves as far away from Raimi's as possible. I will bet there is humor, and fun with in it, but I think over all it will be serious characters and story, more serious not so much of the characters themselves but the events and reactions that unfold because of them. However that end part really to me and the music just screamed fun.

So I think the marketing is intentionally trying to show more of the dark scenes. It's just what they want to differentiate themselves. Maybe the later trailers will show more, but I think there will be humor, not the exact type of Raimi's. But still there. And in its context I'm sure it will work.

"who's the fool, the fool or the fool who follows it" that was a great saying by Obi Wan Kenobi. go ahead and spend your hard earned money or probably your allowance on this movie while the execs at Sony Laugh at you like they did at all of us who spent money to see Spidey 3.. They are laughing all the way to the bank LMAO... I'm gonna invest in Sony and Marvel starting once this trailer get's fully released, so i can laugh right along with Sony..

So...no Lizard in the trailer, right?
Or is there a version with the Lizard?

I have to say I completely disagree about ESB being extremely dark. Things certainly got more serious and the tone got darker but the movie wasn't dark or gritty at all...but that is imo.

However, I completely understand why marketing would want to separate this film from the raimi films, I just hope they don't go too overboard though since Raimi did get many things right.

Truthfully,I don't even know what to think. I loved Tobey as Spidey and although it had it's flaws,I loved Raimi's trilogy. I'm one of the people who believed that we didn't need a reboot,but...I'm a huge Spidey fan. So,I'll go see ASM for sure. The new trailer was a bit disappointing because I was hoping an seeing Spidey in action and a possible glimpse of the Lizard. Again,I'm not sure what to think or even how to feel about it all.

Love the tone of the teaser! I am really looking forward to this movie.

Why do we think OsCorp is conducting experiments with lab animals?

I understand that.

But all I'm saying is that this same reaction happened for a few years with Batman. With Begins tons were at first comparing it directly to Burton's B89, but finally after TDK they for the most part stopped and just realized they were both good adaptions and worked.

A metaphor for the comic book reboot is kinda like jumping into a cold lake. At first its a shock and not great, but then your realize its not as bad as you thought.

Now I'm not saying you can't have your criticism you know I'm not like that. I just think once the shock wears off people will see its got a lot of elements of Spidey but seen in a different light and interpretation. But we will see soon enough won't we ;)

I'm sure in November we will see something more.

After Spider-Man 2, I felt the same exact way. I didn't want a reboot anytime soon and wanted to see what other villains Raimi wanted to use after doing great jobs with both Green Goblin and Doc Ock. It looked like the only way to go was higher, but...the realization hit when Spider-Man 3 came out. When you're like me and your favorite Spidey villain is Venom and when the director screws the character up as bad as, imo, my other favorite villain, Bane, then you pretty much scream out for a reboot. Now, sure, I don't want to see Venom or the symbiote anymore, or at least for a while, but I'm glad we're receiving a more dark approach of the web-crawler. And a reboot with much better actors doesn't hurt either

It sucked when Harry was portrayed by a much better guy.

Love the lines...
"Ready to play God"... and "we all have secrets, the ones we keep and the ones kept from us"

We don't. What makes you say that?

Well, he may picture OsCorp doing such because of A.) Peter walking into a room/chamber where there are mutated/radioactive/genetically-enhanced spiders and B.) Dr. Connors working there as well and testing lizard DNA on himself, so there must be some way HOW Connors received the DNA.

OsCorp could very well be testing the OZ drugs on animals before humans(Van Atter maybe?).

It's a teaser, as such, it served that purpose to me. It "teases" of a much more serious storyline and much better acting IMO.

Honestly,Anno, the main reason I wanted a reboot was because I wanted to see a darker and more complex symbiote story, and a darker, scarier and more vicious Venom. I'm understand because I'm a Venom fanatic myself. I hope he appears again in this new series and is done ALOT better.

I just hope Webb doesn't make changes for the sake of making things more contemporary and edgy that appear incidental when played out on film. It should feel like a good creative and natural choice when played out. It shouldn't look desparate. This footage doesn't appear to, but still.

People forget the serioussness of the Raimi films. And people throw around the word camp way too much. The Uncle Ben and Peter dream sequence in SM2 is anything but lighthearted. It's pure character driven emotion. I don't know why people are suddenly turning their backs on what Raimi orginally had. There was plenty of character development. Which is ironic, since people complain about how there was too much Peter.

Love the lines...
"Ready to play God"... and "we all have secrets, the ones we keep and the ones kept from us"

I love the second line. Some might argue that he should of said "With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility" but that is so well known that there really isn't any point unless they changed the line (WHICH THEY BETTER NOT HAVE!)

Totally agree! And while I think Franco did a great job with how Harry was written, I think he as an actor had so much more potential that was not written into the character or storyline.

Same for Grace with Brock/Symbiote/Venom. Such a waste of some really good material.

Now we get Dr. Connors, with hopefully a great actor, and what is again (hopefully) a better written story/villain.

Here's hoping BOTH Connors and the Lizard is NOT "kid friendly"

I never wanted a reboot. I really wanted a S-M4 and when Tobey and Sam were announced to returned, I was SO happy. Sadly, the film didn't happen and even to this day, it still pisses me off thinking about it.

But, we're getting a reboot and I just hope it's good. Not sure if it will be, and even though the teaser was really good, it does not say the film will be incredible. I think we'll find out if that's true or not on July 3rd, 2012.

I tried. Didn't like it.

You didn't like it?

I've never heard anyone not like DW(and I mean Doctor Who, not Arthur's sister...that's pedo :awesome:) once they've tried it, haha.

Each episode is so complex that I like to have a free mind whenever I watch it because it's always so complex and makes you think so, so much. That, Supernatural and Breaking Bad are probably the only shows that makes me really have to think.

Honestly,Anno, the main reason I wanted a reboot was because I wanted to see a darker and more complex symbiote story, and a darker, scarier and more vicious Venom. I'm understand because I'm a Venom fanatic myself. I hope he appears again in this new series and is done ALOT better.

I understand how someone would want to see Venom appear again, but I don't think we will be seeing Venom anytime soon in this new series, or even Eddie for that matter. I have an idea that OsCorp could play a BIG part with the villains in this entire new series, so I'm betting more on Electro, and maybe even Hydro-Man along with Kraven and Green Goblin over Venom.

Truth be told, if we ever get Venom, someone needs to do the right thing and make TWO films, one to focus on the symbiote and the other to focus on Venom.

I second this completely. It baffles me.

I don't think that line in any way replaces the catch phrase of "with great responsibility comes great power".

I just like the writing, and the delivery of some of the lines... it speaks to the tone of the movie and a more serious approach to me.

ALL.. VERY.. VERY GOOD.. Cannot wait!
