Lost all credibility at the bolded point, but I'll humor you anyway. How are people coming to this conclusion that Peter is going to be all serious and brooding based on two minutes of footage? I'd also encourage you to key in on the Oscorp scene in the trailer where Peter acts like a child on Christmas morning when Gwen seemingly gives him the go ahead to snoop around.
The trailer was moody and grim, but that doesn't mean the whole film will be. Steve Klove has said that there will be naturalistic humor in the movie. Poni_Boy has also stated that in clips he has seen (presumably ones being shwon at SDCC) Peter is a little bit of a wiseass and has no trouble making fun of his opponents.
We need to stop jumping to conclusions here.
Mhmmm. I'll believe Poniboy's statements when descriptions of ComiCon come out. However, maybe you're right and he is the smartass in the comics.
But the trailer marketing doesn't say that. The trailer sells him as a lonely, isolated young man who carries the weight of his parents's deaths on his shoulder (again, more than a hint of a certain Nolan movie) who broods in the corner of the classroom while proving complexly irresistable to Gwen. Granted, that is just marketing and the final product can be very different, but he had the sullen, charismatic outsider thing going all through the trailer. Sony is clearly playing to a certain audience with that.
