Comics The Official Bagley replacement thread

The only two that I think would be really good that have been mentioned are JRJR or Brooks. Preferably Brooks.

Awww man! JR Jr would be friggin awesome! Especially since Amazing SUCKS right now!

Whoever they get it's either gonna mean USM goes monthly or get's a load of fill-in artists. No-one can match bagley in terms of turnover at the moment.

Personally I'd quite like to see Medina get given a shot on this, his work on New X-men has been top notch so far

Romita JR, for sure. He and Bagely seem to have similar artistic sensibilities; not too realistic but not overly cartoony. Plus, I have always preferred the way that JRJr has drawn Spider-Man. He really gives him that great athletic-look and doesn't go crazy with the muscles, which is perfect for USM. In fact, if JRJr started drawing USM, I might start buying it again despite my ban against Joe Q.

Am I the only one here who doesn't want Brooks to replace Bagley on USM?!? lol

Yeah, granted, he does some nice work & his work in the 2nd USM annual was much better than the 1st, but I still don't believe he's the best, 1st choice replacement for Bagley. I'm crap with names so I'll have to look them up later, but I've got a few in mind...

UUhhh guys, you do realise that THERE IS NO WAY that JRJr would end up on this book?

ASM is aimed at the teen market, the Buffy/Smallville crowd, only with much cooler stories. Bags fits that very commerical role.

While I'm not the biggest fan of JRJr on Spidey, even I can see the attraction of his style, it's very edgy, unique, sparse, scratchy, and leftfield, but he takes a commercial approach. Otherwise his art would just alienate people.

Also, don't forget who his father is, and JRJr has talked loads about liking more 'mature' stories aimed at adults.

JRJr being on this book not only makes no sense to me whatsoever, (he likes grown up Spidey, not new fangled appeals to teenagers Spidey,) but don't you guys want to see him tackle other charachters? His Spidey (IMO,) got real stagnant, and everytime a good artist gets a new project, they seem to flourish and spread there wings more. I'd prefer seeing him improve with new charachters.

Not only that, don't you guys want to see someone NEW tackle Spidey? An artist that you love, that hasn't done Spidey yet? Or someone who's only touched upon Spidey? I remember in an issue of Spidey unlimited, where a story was about Spidey facing Rhino, and losing. The whole point of the story was, no matter how much we hate it, sometimes we all lose. It was a great story, and the art was fantastic, I'm not sure if the style would fit USM, but it was great.

Anyone know the story/artist I'm talking about?

Also, wouldn't you guys think it's better to change up the style completely? Rather than trying to replace people?

That's what I was thinking too.

Do we really want someone who'll just 'copy' Bag's style? Nah.

I wouldn't mind Brooks. I'd like JRJR but I don't see him as a real possibility. I like Campbell's work but I think he's doing something else Spidey-related with Loeb.

Visual continuity is appealing to me. While I can usually get past a change in art styles, radical changes jar my senses slightly. Plus, there are drawing styles out there that I just plain don't like. So while yes, there is a certain appeal to seeing a fresh approach to the comic, I am also wary of an artist being put on the book whose art style I can't stand. I have been really turned off to comics because of the artists before.

I guess since I really don't buy USM anymore anyway I can't complain, but that's my opinion on the subject.

And whether or not JRJr is actually a feasible replacement is not my point; he's just one of the guys I'd really prefer to see take up the position.

Well, I think everybody knows that the chances of Romita Jr. actually picking the book up after Bagley is like in the ball park of hell freezing over.

This is a thread to discuss Bagley's REPLACEMENT. And Romtia Jr. would make a GREAT replacement. He's the type of artist in Marvel's stable who could fill Bagley's shoes quite nicely.

And when you say "ASM" I hope that you mean "USM" because Romita Jr. already did a nice run of ASM.

I'd like to see someone like Adrian Alphona from Runaways do USM, that'd be an interesting thing to see.

But in speaking of new people tackling Spider-Man...I would like to see that but my hope lies more into the writing department. Like, Dan Slott writing an ongoing Spider-Man title....starting next month....DO IT MARVEL! DO IT NOW OR I'M JUST GOING TO FURTHER COMPLAIN ABOUT IT ON THIS MESSAGE BOARD!!! :cmad:

:spidey:
i just know im gonna catch #$#@ for putting him on here..

I think Todd Nauck would do a Great job.. his art has been in a few issues of

Spiderman and i think he can pull off the teen look ...

Brooks would be ok too.. maybe if the wanna keep the 2 issue a month schedule..

1 week Nauck the other.. Brooks..

i've seen Todd's work since New Men and i think his works come a long Way.

There has to be consistency of presentation though, I mean when I first read the sinister six arc I didn't even recognise pete initially because of the dramatic change in the way he(and the rest of the book) was drawn. I'm not saying we need someone to sit down and copy bagley's style exactly but it at least has to look similar

JRJR is a bad choice for ultiamte..
i say:

3: Mark Brooks (Good style but known for delays)
2: Erik Larsen (cool style)
1: Tom Lyle (Amazing artwork, but not on marvels payroll anymore)

id really really prefer tom lyle, his art is amazing...

Aloha,
Couldn't agree more.I love both Bags and JRjr on Amazing.Bags did a fantastic job on USM. I would not want to see a radical change from the style that has been established unless it is an improvement. Brooks would do fine as would Dodson.
Spidey rules

I hate to see Mark Bagley leave, but I would lik eto see more of Luke Ross.
