Yup. How awesome is that? So different from this era of watching trailers on the Internet over and over again.

Figures adjusted for inflation would suggest that The Dark Knight was still bigger, but Batman opened in half as many cinemas. Overall, I would agree that Batman was the bigger cultural phenomenon. In part, that was due to the unprecedented hype, but it was also a film unlike anything seen before.

The amazing thing about the B89 phenomenon was that the film was marketed almost soley around the Batsymbol. That symbol was so iconic that it was all they needed to plaster on posters to get people in to see the film. You knew exactly what you were going to get...Batman.

There are different versions of Batman's emblem but the one that everyone is very familiar with is the oval version. It has such a powerful presence. I love seeing clips (on YouTube) that showed billboards for the 1989 Batman movie that had nothing other than the oval Batman emblem. There was no need to add the title of the movie or any slogans. People just knew.

And sadly enough you weren't getting him but a midget who makes girls drunk to sleep with him just to wear a costume later to sedate, grope and scare her.

lmao! You're leaving out quite a bit! But honestly, Bruce, as awesome as he was played by Keaton...never felt like Bruce Wayne to me. I never felt like I was given the public billionaire Bruce Wayne of Wayne Enterprises who EVERYBODY knows (including his obvious tragic backstory). How do people not know his parents and what happened to them?

He was more quirky. In public and in private. Stuttering sometimes. Is this Clark Kent at Daily Planet or Peter Parker? Or is this Bruce Wayne? They even gave the guy glasses.

He wasn't built. He was an average guy who suddenly puts the batsuit on and the rubber makes him intimidating. And it WAS intimidating. His Batman was amazing. But I could have done without the killing. That stuff always makes me think of Punisher or something.

Funny Bruce Wayne, but Christian Bale felt more like Bruce to me. Same with Kilmer. Batman? Keaton got a lot of things right that even Bale didn't.

Even when I was in Ecuador at the time of the movie the hype was huge just because of that logo even though the Adam West series had long been off the air, I would even cut out of newspapers the movie ad until it was no longer in theaters and the size in the ad would get smaller as each week went by.

Sadly over in Ecuador we didn't get the Taco Bell cups, comic book adaptations and the T-shirts we'd get were all pirated and sold on streets.

This is still the best live action Batman movie.

To me, the nolanverse films are more surreal and unrealistic than the burtonverse ones, Even though I like both series.

Batman and Joker fits right into Burton's dark and fantastic Gotham City, but seems out of place in Nolan's Chicagotham City. I can believe that a man would dress up like a bat in Burton's world, but in Nolan's it seems kind of unnecessary and awkward.

If you make Batman too realistic, it backfires. Batman has never been realistic in the first place...

I remember seeing the movie for the first time when i was about seven years old. My parents turned off the tv at the beginning of the "descent into mystery" part. They told me that the movie was over... But I remembered scenes from the commercials that I hadn't seen in the movie. Next time it aired they let me watch all of it. I thought the cathedral part where Batman kicks Joker's ass was a bit scary
